  1. I went to Reno this week and it was pretty cold low 30s, after the car sat all night outside the e brake indicator light would not go off. The brake was not on (coasted with out any drag) I parked the car and went to the movies, when I came out after the light was off. I did not use the e brake at the movies. The valet took the car and used the e brake last night and this morning it is stuck on again. It didn't go off until I had driven about 50 miles then it just went off. Temp this morning on the road was about 28F. Is there some place I can clean and lube to keep the cable from sticking and keeping the light on. Fluid is full also. On another note anyone that is going to the cold areas from a warm climate should make sure you put the anti-freeze windshield washer fluid in your car as the wipers freeze up and don't work to well when you wash the window, then the washer nozzles will freeze and you have nothing. Jeff
  2. mbraat, I just saw a news story on flood cars from Katrina. The crooks are cleaning them up and some how getting out of the flood title and selling them for a nice profit at someone else's expense. One of the things that they said to look at is the condensation in the lights. I would make sure you get the carfax and see where this car has been. If it came from down south you might want to look a little harder at the whole car. These guys are very good at cleaning up high end cars and unless you do some digging under things like trunk carpet and in the engine compartment, like looking inside of fuse boxes for a little silt that they missed you could get stung. Jeff
  3. Check this link, and about 7 posts down you will find your answer. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=antenna Jeff
  4. My 2000 RX works with my Genie but it wouldn't work with the button that had already been programed with a previous opener, my old sears. I did the delete just like the manual said but no go. I used the middle button and it worked right away. It is awesome it will open the door a block and a half away. The Genie opener will only work 100-150 ft away. Jeff
  5. This aids in warming the engine up to operating temperature faster which reduces exhaust emissions. Jeff
  6. Your on the right track, it sounds like your right brake is hanging up and has most likley warped the rotor. Jeff
  7. You should also check for a broken/cracked rim that is flexing at speed. Jeff
  8. I just thought it was strange that they mentioned it in a radio ad. Jeff
  9. Did the dealer mention to any of you that you have to use premium fuel in the 350? I heard a radio add today that mentioned premium fuel is required for the RX350. Jeff
  10. If you don't reset the computer it will take several tank fulls for the computer to account for the different octane of fuel you are using. It has to monitor all the sensors that give it information on every aspect of the fuel burn and then start to adjust to meet the needs of the car. The computer has no clue what octane of fuel you put in the tank it only gathers data from the sensors and applies a programed algorithm to the various components that make the engine run like the engineers programed it to. Be patient and gather data then report in, the main thing is you have to drive exactly the same for the test to be accurate.
  11. All I've ever used is 87 no ping plenty of power shifts as smooth as silk. Jeff
  12. I like the look, the only thing I would have done is maybe not had them come out the back so far. They look nice. Jeff
  13. I left my key in a pair of shorts that my wife washed and dried today. The key is fine so far, I opened it up to have a look and was surprised to find it sealed up so good on the inside part (the transmitter) that it looks like no water damage at all. That's a good key. Jeff
  14. Check with your insurance company many will fix a chip for free so they don't have to replace the windshield with a claim. Farmers does this. Jeff
  15. Sounds like some mice moved in and most likely ate the knock sensor wiring. You should take off the intake or have it done and repair the wires. Jeff
  16. I say two bad wrecks that involved Lexus that the people walked away from with no injury. This was one factor that started me looking at Lexus. Glad to hear that your loved one is fine. Jeff
  17. I have rolling codes also and it was very easy if you follow the directions. Go for it. It also transmits farther than me clip on one does, I can open the door from a block away. Jeff
  18. If you have one of those portable jump starters with a cigarette lighter adapter you can plug it into the cigarette lighter and turn the key on but don't start it up. When you disconnect the battery terminals make sure that you cover them as not to short the Positive side to ground and it should save your codes and your ECU memory. Jeff
  19. I guess you could also say that the hundreds of thousands of RX owners with high mileage also don't access this site to say how great there RX's are. I do feel your pain but no one has even figured out just what is going wrong with these failures, so one could just call them random. Jeff
  20. So how many bad transmissions is that now 25-30? Out of 5-600,000 copies?
  21. He was asking where to buy the horns SK was telling him about.
  22. Check out this guys site for DIY http://mywebpages.comcast.net/rx300how2/index.html
  23. Has any one been able to find production numbers for RXs?
  24. Faulty components makes the most sense to me, I would say hard driving but there are members here that can verify good driving habits and still have failure. Also the amount of failed transmissions seems to low to be a design flaw. Remember I think it is a design miss application or faulty components not a design flaw. Would any of you say that the early to mid 90s Jeep Cherokee and family had a design flaw? I can remember these years having a bad reputation for blowing transmissions. I knew 3 people that blew them. A guy I work with had his Dodge mini van in the Dodge dealer shop for a bad Transmission and just about all the cars they were working on were Caravans and Cherokees. Jeff
  25. wwest, I couldn't tell you how many 01-03 RXs have more than 75K on the clock can you tell me how many 99-03 RXs were sold and how many have had transmission failures? If this link works here is a sample of RXs within 500 miles of my house for sale. http://cars.kbb.com/go/search/fs_search_re...ifiedOnly=false If you go near the bottom you will see some very high mileage early RXs. My point is that the trans was designed to do just what you said it does. That is not a design flaw. It may be a poor application of the design but not a flaw or we would see thousands of failures. I still think that Lexus got some substandard friction plates that were mixed in with the good ones. Now the question would be did they know about it and just shuffle the deck with these bad plates hoping that there wouldn't be any problems, or did they not know. We still don't even know what is failing in these trannys so every thing we are talking about is just theory. Jeff
