  1. First get a car-fax report, even if you have to pay for the months worth of use, could come in handy if you turn this one back. Get the VIN number from the front drivers side lower windshield area and call Lexus with this number and they will tell you if the car has had any service done at a Lexus dealer and what service was done. Now call the original owner with the info you have and ask him if he had any problems. Jeff
  2. I would say ONLY read your door sticker, that is if you are using the OEM size tire. Your car was tested and validated with tires that were aired to the pressure stated on the door. The handling, ABS computer and many other things I wouldn't even begin to understand were all validated with the specs that are listed for that size and tire rating at the air pressure stated. The same tire can be used on many different size cars and applications for instance my Accord V6 gets 32psi front and 29psi rear good to vehicle rated weight capacity. So when the tires are rotated the air has to be adjusted. This is due to the engine and front wheel drive weight. This same tire on a heavier car would most likely require higher pressure. You won't be wrong if you use the pressure that the car Mfg gives you. You will not hurt the tire with a higher pressure up to rated Max but you may hurt the handling of your car and that may hurt you. Remember the tire Mfg gives you the max pressure with the max weight rating for that tire, they don't know what kind of car that tire is going on. Jeff
  3. That sounds like a good deal on the car but the price for the transmission seems pretty high, most here talk about $4200-5000 at the dealer and $1500-1000 less than that at an independent shop so I would do a little more research on transmission prices. Other than the trans is the rest of the RX in good condition? Jeff
  4. The worry for anti freeze is more the anti-corrosion package that protects the Aluminum as well as the steel components in your engine. In as little as 2 years the anti corrosion inhibitors can start to go bad, and while it may not ruin your engine in that short of time it starts the process that will allow your freeze plugs to fail. I had this happen on a car with an engine that never had the anti freeze changed because it looked good and the car never overheated. When I used to have the Eldorado it was mandatory you changed the coolant every two years. This however had the all aluminum North Star engine. If you didn't do this you would eventually get the dreaded blown head gasket from the corrosion inhibitors being gone.
  5. My wife's 08 350 gets about 19-20 in town and on trips to Reno we've be getting about 25+. This last winter we got caught in on of the snow storms coming home and the All wheel drive allowed us not to have to chain up, it also worked very well no slipping at all with stock tires. Jeff
  6. I don't have to worry about this any more I hope as I traded my 2000 in for a 2008, but if it is this easy to clean these maybe it should be a job done more often by the home DIYer. I would have no problem doing this at the 20-30K tranny oil drain and refill. Just a suggestion to those that still are worried.
  7. That could be mine, my wife and I are out that way often going to the nut tree area to eat or Borders. The wife would be the pretty brunette I would be the almost bald guy with glasses. I will be trying the Toyota dealer or just doing things myself except warranty work for that I may try Lexus of Sacramento or Concord. Jeff
  8. I won't be bringing it back to them. Also on the RX350 you can't mark the filter it is a cartridge. The service manager also told me that the guy must have rotated the tires because he had to have the wheels off to check the brakes. Wrong they must not have been checked either. Jeff
  9. I took my 08 RX350 to Lexus of Roseville, California for the free 5000 mile service on last Friday on my way to Reno. The service advisor told me that the oil and filter would be changed, the tires would be rotated and belts and hoses checked. When I got to Reno I looked at the wheels and noticed that the fronts were still very dirty on the inside like the fronts always are. I started looking at the tires and noticed that the rears still had the little excess pieces of rubber from when they are new on the edge of the tire. It was clear to me that these were not the tires that had been on the front or they would have been edge worn from turning like the ones that are still on the front. I called the service advisor and played phone tag all day till she finally got me this afternoon. I explained what I had seen and was put on hold, she never came back the service manager did. I explained again what I had noticed and he told me that they were rotated. We had a little discussion and he never would admit that it might have happened or even went to check with the person that was to have done the work. He wanted me to bring it back and show him however I told him I would not be taking a day off of work and driving over 50 miles so I could prove it to him. I also told him I had doubts as to weather the oil and filter had been changed. He assured me that they were, but how do I know for sure. He offered to pay for someone to rotate the tires for me locally but I told him I would do it myself that way I know it will be done. I also told him I will no longer be a customer at Lexus of Roseville. Sorry for the rant but lenore had warned about this dealers service dept and I just wanted to back him up that they are not to be trusted. Screw me once shame on you, screw me twice shame on me. Jeff
  10. If you think your 07 RX has a bad turning radius you should drive a 300. My new 08 350 turns way better than the 300 we traded in. The paint looks very nice but I agree that it chips very easy. Mine has 4600 miles on it and a dozen+ tiny rock chips on the front. My windshield looks perfect. Jeff
  11. Our 08 has the light tan or what ever color it is called and is getting a blue tint on the edges from blue jeans. It seems to come off but it comes back in a few weeks. Jeff
  12. So if you have to pull over and wait for the Nav to find the Sats it is just like pulling over and entering the info. Jeff
  13. There is a plastic block that mounts to the bumper then the plate mounts to that. Dealer or try ebay. Jeff
  14. Here is another option for people. http://www.autopartsbylou.com/ Jeff
  15. If I was that unhappy I would dump it and get something I don't have to complain about to everyone. My nav commands have been great, no buzzing and no wind noise above what I would consider normal. Jeff
  16. I couldn't be happier with my 08 RX. The navigation will work when driving if you read the directions and use voice commands. The POI will come up with the touch screen while driving and you can touch the poi and get the info as well while driving. I'm guessing you did no research at all before your purchase. Did you take a test drive? The price well I looked at Volvo, Acura and infinity and the Lexus is a better value in my book. Jeff
  17. Just set up my wifes new Sprint Sanyo Katana II, every thing went perfect even the phone book. Just followed the instructions for my phone printed off of lexus web site. Jeff
  18. I had mine stick once when I was in freezing cold weather and parked out side. This was on my 2000 RX that I just traded in for th 08 350. You need to get it thawed out first then spray some dry silicone lube inside the cable housing under the car. You have to peel back the rubber boots to get the spray lube inside the cable housing. Mine never stuck again. Jeff
  19. I went from a 2000 with 16s to a 2008 with 18s and I didn't notice any difference at all. Not sure how you could tell with out having both sizes and changing back and forth in size on a track for a real world test. Jeff
  20. I would think that your insurance could request that Lexus retrieve the crash data from the computer and have it analyzed to see just what happened. I believe and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that they have the right to get this information as does Lexus. Jeff
  21. I bought the 08 RX350 and I'm just coming up to the 1k mile mark and I couldn't be happier with it. I had a 2000 RX and loved it also, traded it in at 62K miles on the new one. I am very aware of the issues that people are complaining about and have not had one instance of any of these issues (knock on wood) The engine is as quiet and smooth as can be, the transmission is positive and I tried to make it hesitate and could not. My RX is a Japan built AWD Mfg in 10/07. Jeff
  22. Try a little lube oil around where the cable goes into the cable cover under the car. You might have to pull back a dust cover to squirt some lube inside. I had mine stick when I went to the snow, this was on my old 2000 Rx 300 but would release after the car warmed up a bit. I sprayed some lube in the cable jacket and never had another problem again. Jeff
  23. Just bought mine on Dec. 29 an it has 7.1, Don't count on the sales men knowing what version the car has, two could only tell me that it was the 5.1 but didn't know what map version it was in fact they didn't even know there were different map update versions. I checked my self when I got home. Jeff
