  1. Yung - Keep us posted please. I assume no history of oil use shown in early service records. And let your mechanic know about DI gas engines and black soot on exhaust pipes being common. Btw - I like your avatar pic.
  2. twitte - Congrats on new NXt, and thanks for followup report on your IS350.
  3. Bumping this thread up, since the issue came up again on another 2007 IS350. twitte - Any changes on oil consumption on your IS350?
  4. I wasn't able to open PDF, although I do recognize some of the TSBs.
  5. Great idea to set up account on My Lexus website and review it first. I looked at mine today (I review it periodically) and noticed even minor things where dealer service "could not duplicate" showed on the service records, they are quite complete for service done via Lexus dealership.
  6. The mechanic should know about black soot on exhaust pipes is common on direct injected (DI) gasoline engines. My DI IS350 and C250 (and previous CX-5 )both have this and do not take any oil between oil changes. If that was my mechanic, I'd be disappointed with his lack of knowledge on DI. So the black soot on tail pipes reflects nothing abnormal with IS250 and IS350 engines.
  7. The new Mercedes C class coupe will be out soon. I'm predicting it will be best looking coupe of the bunch (versus RC, 4 series, A5).
  8. Hopefully in 3rd visit finds something that needs to be fixed. Because 1/2 quart oil use every 1100 miles alone will not prompt action from any major automaker. Good to know these IS 350 cars have low oil level light.
  9. Yung, welcome to LOC. Every major automaker selling into the U.S. market will tell you 2200 miles to the quart oil consumption is acceptable and that no warranty work will be required (even if the car is in warranty). Is it normal for a Lexus IS350 to use this much oil? Of course, NO. But some do and at least one one reported here. It is normal for some 4.6L SOHC Ford V8's and some aircooled Porsche flat 6's to burn oil at that rate, not that it has anything to do with Lexus.
  10. sgt0331gunr - Wow, I'd like to see more pictures of that black ES350.
  11. Update: Nav antenna placement is critical, I found out. Previously the nav antenna was hidden under the dash, and sometimes I would get strange routing when using nav. They moved antenna to sit on top of dash near windshield (it's small and black, about size of piece of Starburst candy), works perfectly now.
  12. I wish my Lexus had those cool LED DRLs.
  13. Makes sense. What's his diagnose? The oil level thing does sound like sludge situation...
  14. ^ If your car is covered, it will be FREE, you will pay nothing. I mentioned other people paid (before Lexus announced the warranty enhancement), they will be reimbursed if they saved receipt.
  15. Please let us know what they say, it was supposed to be a 2 phase process due to parts availability. Some people already paid to have this repair done, the are supposed to get reimbursement.
  16. Many months ago initial letter went out and they were filling pipeline with parts, sb getting stocked by late spring according to article I read. If I remember correctly, they only plan to replace parts on cars with parts showing the problem. My car will go in this summer for annual Mobil 1 oil change and fuel line recall, I'm not expecting them to do anything else (other than check my 8 year old battery).
  17. ^ Yes, I did receive the letter in the mail directly from Lexus a few months ago. Therefore my 2007 IS350 is in the range of cars that had this problem, even if I have not experienced it.
  18. By now you should have received a notice in the mail from Lexus regarding the warranty enhancement for this issue. If not, talk to service advisor at Lexus dealership, they can enter your VIN and see if you are covered.
  19. When I saw "put 2qts in it, nothing registering on dipstick", it made me wonder... Did the mechanic accidently under fill after the oil change?
  20. Sounds nice. These days a lot of newer cars have the flush-mounted exhaust outlets, including Benz-C, Benz-E, Suzuki K, GS, etc., so Lexus was the trend-setter there.
  21. Here in my part of northern California being import-rich, modified cars are fairly common. And today/2015 most mods revolve around looks (including wheels/tires/suspension, exhaust, tint, spoilers, etc.), serious power increasing mods are far less common. Today's modern sport sedans for example often have 300+ hp already with very good performance right from the factory. Glad you had a chance to look at IS-F fender.
  22. Salvage title cars make good parts cars, otherwise best avoided. Good luck with search.
  23. Wow, nice project. Do you have access to a wind tunnel? (jk) Maybe taking a good look at the IS-F front fenders will give some ideas.
