  1. What is a bump stop? Is that the insulator(12 in diagram)...how was that lubricated...did they have to take it apart first?
  2. Every morning when it is cold/chilly, the brakes are firm and fine...however, late afternoon under the hot blazing afternoon sun, and heavy city traffic, it starts to get mushy and less confident. Although it stops good enough as to be not a major problem, it doesn't have that hard firm feeling I like to have...and it goes to the floor when I press medium hard. :cries:
  3. OK, I bled the brakes. PRear, DRear, PFront, Dfront with those 1 man bleeder tools. After bleeding, the brakes have a nice firm pressure with the engine off...so there is definitely no leaking...verified by reservoir being always full. Now, after I drive for 1 km, the brakes feel a bit better but still goes down to the floor. :cries: with moderate foot pressure. I re-bled the brakes again....nice and firm with the engine off...after 1 km again the brakes feel soft...but works fine. Are lexus supposed to have soft brakes?
  4. Nothing there. except for o2 sensors.
  5. UPDATE: to "The Car and the Restless" Well, at first they suspected that the molding was not there in the first place. I had to argue that it was. After, they admitted their error and will replace the molding. For that tiny piece of plastic under the front fender... 350CAD$...wow.
  6. Update, well they put a big fat ugly non lexus screw on the wheel well where they missed first time, adjusted the foglights...I said thank you went home. Well, my girlfriend found another flaw today....THEY forgot to put the lower right molding on the fender...UUUUUUUHHHHHHHH...This one I am sure because the left molding is there. Looks like I am spending all my life at car repairs.: Is there any recourse to this endless headache or am I just too picky of a lexus freak. :D
  7. Here is a better picture. There are 6 empty screw holes that seem to be begging for something...hence my original false suspicion that I was missing a piece of the splash guards. I have all the splash guard (total 4). Anyone know what those 6 screw holes are/were for? Here is the pic of what I am talking about.
  8. I also had a Bosal Y-pipe that leaked! It was due to poor assembly (made in India) and had to be "massaged". Problem was where the gasket meets the flange. The pipe didn't allow the flange to sit flat. Your mechanic should fix the leak.:chairshot: ← I went and had the the work checked...no leaks. I guess the bosal just SOUNDS different. Actually, I prefer my original ypipe...but the new pipe feels MEATIER with a slight Growl that I never experienced b4 with my original pipe. Is it possible that the ECU is re-adjusting to the new configuration?...since I was driving with the Ypipe leaking for about a week.
  9. I am surprised nobody picked this out from the first picture but THERE IS NO SPLASH GUARD MISSING. I assumed there was supposed to be one because there are currrently 3 screw holes on each side of the "side spoilers" (2,3 in picture below) (anyone know what they are for???). I have confirmed this with a friend's es300. 96. This leaves the question...how much gap is there supposed to be with the fog lights. I noticed that my friend's es300 has uneven foglights with some uneven gap as well. Is this normal? Can anyone else check what their foglight gaps are?
  10. It was an impact on the passenger side front just under the headlight...thank goodness...crushing both the fender and the bumper. The impact did not touch the tires so no alignment was done...but the shock cracked a few other things that may have been weakend over the years like the mirror and the foglight. New front bumper cover New passenger side front fender New absorber New passenger mirror (glass only) New foglight (passenger side only) parts 1300$, labour $1000 +tax
  11. Thanks for your advice, I bit the bullet and got the whole assembly repaired with bosal pipes. The only thing now is that when it idles the low frequency murmur/noise at a stop sign 750rpm appears loud only on Drive and not on neutral. As soon as it goes above 800 it is dead quiet though...very smooth.
  12. Thanks for letting me know. Could you tell me if this works now? I just signed up for rogers and their yahoo photo sucks.
  13. Here are some pics of what I am talking about.
  14. Perhaps the lack of the splash guard just makes the bumper "insides" look empty. The reason I suspected that there was something in front of the washer bottle is that the bottle looked so clean considering it would have at least some rain/snow/salt during head wind. I took it to Carstar since they had a good reputation from the older people I have talked to. Thanks for the offer, I will try to take alot of pictures and post them tommorow. If you can comment on them, I would really appreciate it.
  15. I see, that explains why you got it for so cheap ($250). Anyhow, I was thinking like you and asked a Midas guy if he can just flange and weld but he said, it looked too old so I bit the bullet $900. Total Lexus spending this week is including bumper and fender $CAD3400. :(
  16. Hello everyone, I just had my lexus front bumper cover and passenger fender replaced by a "reputatble" body shop in Toronto for $2500 due to a fender bender. I believe their work is crap! Why? 1. Missing the front splash guard under the bumper. 2. Fog lights do not fit nicely in their places...one inch gap on the right and half inch gap on the left. Q3. When one looks through the 2 bumper grills on the sides, do you see the washer fluid tank on the right side and the horn on the left? I feel that they left some parts out of that as well. Could someone be kind enough to check and tell me, I think they didn't put any absorber in....:chairshot: I will be taking it back but this is taking alot of my time. Who knows what other parts they screwed me with...ANYONE have any pics of an ORIGINAL bumper/insides for a 95/96??
  17. I agree, shop around & get second & third opinions. I noticed aq you are in the Toronto area......where abouts (east end, west end, downtown)? I have a couple of independent mechanics I deal with that charge much less for labour than any of the dealers (Lexus or Toyota) & they do fantastic work! :) Let me know & if your close, I might be able to hook you up! B) ← I am beside Wonderland...but heck I will drive anywhere if I can save a few bucks.-gas. :D
  18. I think I have the same problem. My flex pipe (front pipe, y-pipe, header pipe) call it what you want. went to speedy and their quote is $800 using a NAPA pipe. or $750 using a Basal brand pipe. Any comments on NAPA or Basal. Is OEM worth the $1400? :o
  19. My header pipe appears to be leaking :cries: . The 2 fasteners for the pipe that is coming from the rear engine exhaust are rusted off but the rest of my y-pipe seems good except for the mesh that is about 5% gone. Can this be repaired or do I need a whole new header pipe (y-pipe)?
  20. electronic control unit Is it really neccessary to reset the ecu after a simple oil change...overkill???
  21. my fav. combo 90 sub wagon 96 es300, girls come standard.: ;) :cheers::cheers:
  22. I have 80k miles on my es300 and when my mechanic checked it, he said it looked brand new! Then again, I nurse this car like my baby.
  23. i had the same problem right after trans. oil change/drain/fill. but problem went away after 2 weeks. i am wondering if it has to do something with the fluid.
