  1. Can you tell us how you managed to fit the D2S bulb into the h7. Sounds like you replaced the whole headlight unit though. Pics of the installation would be nice enjoy.
  2. I have some spare monster cables in my garage. I wonder if they good enough for my battery? They have a resistence of 0.07ohms.
  3. I think you payed too much. Anyhow, the reason I am trying to retrofit is that I can get the whole shabang for $US150 at a local junk yard. Moreover, they are factory lexus stuff so when the cops pulls me over it is easier to explain. ;)
  4. thanks for the adapter plate info. I guess I will just get the ballasts and buy the 9006 bulbs from ebay...since they don't seem to sell the "adapter plates" for 9006? ps. suggestions so far: 1. using a hardening putty to make a "9006 adapter" 2. cut the d2s bulb housing and epoxy it into a "dremeled" stock 9006 bulb. Any help is/was appreciated since I do alot of night driving.
  5. for mine its just taking off the black plastic splash guards on the bottom and then taking the 2 bolts off the light assembly. The whole assembly than pops out from under the car. Then it is real easy to replace the bulb...it is held in there by a pin...looks like a warped paperclip.
  6. Its the shims...There are 3 choices depending on thickness. They range from $1.78 to $3.74 each, for thicknesses 1.0-3.0mm. Or you can make your own by cutting some plastic. This is from a nissan but I imagine it is the same for the lexus.
  7. Almost got an accident because of my poor stock(sylvania) headlights would not show the road. Anyhow.. A local junkyard has an HID kit for a 97 ES300 (lightbulb type H7) for cheap. Can I fit this on my 96 ES300 without too much trouble? I know that 96 has 9006 lightbulbs but do the lightbulb holder for 97-HID-H7 fit a 96 without too much trouble? Further, anyone try putting 9005 into 9006? I know you can just cut the plastic to make them fit. Would be about 70% brighter.
  8. are you serious?? wow thats really funny and a great idea! if you are serious, how did you do it? i'd be really interested in having one....or many on my LS! please get back to me on what you bought or used. thx! I am getting alot of questions about my water cannon so I will post here for everyone to enjoy or modify. Yup. I took a window washer pump/container from an old buick (I am sure you can use any as long as it is small enough to fit in the engine bay============...this is the hard part). Or you can use one of those universal pumps and use any container of "simulated pee"...as the universal pump has an intake/outtake hose. Heck the simplest setup is just putting that intake hose in your washer fluid...but that is not elegant or frugal. I am still trying to perfect it as the nozzle on the front grill goes out of alignment when I drive on highways and "pees" side ways :whistles: . It is only held there by rubber clips. Ideally, I would like to use an old power sideview mirror to control the aiming... Don't forgot to put antifreeze in for the winter if you are going the separate container route. With the switch, I just connected a wire through the rubber grommet in the firewall and attached a switch to the cigarette lighter red wire under the steering wheel with tape (again not very elegant)...but I don't like to put holes in my lexus. Anyone have any good ideas for a cool looking switch? You can put the cannon side ways if you want to shoot "pee" at passing traffic...only works well in slow traffic because of wind. However, I did get a ticket for following too close when I tried to pee on my friend's car. So don't lose your head on your shoulders.
  9. I don't think it is possible to put in park when the car is moving...I have tried with an old subaru and it won't even allow it to get past reverse R!
  10. The mechanic at One Stop Auto said that it is dangerous to drive with a broken bolt in the caliper.
  11. Trash everything I ever gave to you Wrote it on the front of your Lexus Coupe Didn't want to leave you with a lame excuse TLC...Shout
  12. "Fennell was driven by the horrifying night in 1995 when armed kidnappers stuffed her and her husband, Greig, in the trunk of their Lexus and drove off. After the kidnappers robbed the Fennells and abandoned the car, the couple escaped by digging through the trunk's upholstery and finding the wires that released the trunk." How would they do that?
  13. Well, I got impatient and brought the car to One Stop Auto. $150 to take out 1 single broken caliper bolt out replace with a new one ($35)... Did I get ripped off?? I am thinking I could get a new caliper for that. :( Further, how do you guys attempt to get "headless bolts" off? Easyout? Reverse drill?
  14. Problem: While working on my car, many bolts are braking/cracking on me :cries: ... 1. Since everyone said replacing pads was so easy, I decided to replace pads. However, the upper bolt holding the caliper broke leaving the other half inside the caliper (pin-bolt?). How do you get them out??? 2. The bolts holding the plastic flaps on the front bottom of car...(every second one broke on me. I tried to drill them out and I broke my drill bits too! I have only a few bolts holding that plastic flap on. It seems there are 2 types of bolts on the LEXUS...the ones that rust easily and the ones that don't. For instance, the ones holding the fog lamp still look new. Why couldn't they use these kinds of bolts...on everything...: :chairshot:
  15. It is maintance free but it also says on the battery to "add distilled water" when the indicator shows. I guess I will get a Diehard or an Energizer before winter sets in.
  16. I still have the factory battery on my 96 Lexus. For some reason it discharged this morning so I had it recharged by driving for 30 minutes. The voltage is 12.52 V. after fully charged. I brought it into Canadian tires and they said the battery was "heating up" while charging/testing and hence I needed a new battery...But isn't "heating up" when charging a battery normal...I know when I charge my laptop, the battery is very warm. Anyhow they said the battery was "acting funny" and told me to buy a new one. However, I said no to a new battery and put my old battery back in the car and drove home fine while stopping here and there for shopping. Problem: I noticed that water level was low on the battery.... How does one fill the battery with water....any procautions...is it dangerous? Is it worth it... Or should I just get a Red top? Where is the cheapest? I saw it for $150-190 at walmart.
  17. Great advice skp! Why didn't I think of that...I use CLR all the time to remove rust in my bathroom and sink but never thought of my fog lamps! My mine is too tunnel vision these days.
  18. For mine, it was not the seals but a pebble hitting the lens and putting a hole in it....you can see it in the top right corner as a speck...I just sealed it with a bathtub sealer goo from Canadian tires. I tried to take it apart thinking that the metal clips are what held them together...but the thing is like glued glass....no way I can crack it open without cracking the whole thing.... I was thinking of heating it or using some type of solvent that will desolve the rust "stuck on" like a Rad-flush since the light goes for like $125 from a junk yard. What will dissolve rust? Maybe I will try some muriatic or Hydrocholric acid...
  19. Hmmm, thanks for the input people. I guess I HAVE been spoiled by my Subaru's air suspension. The greyish looking thing next to the Lexus is my 15 years old Subaru workhorse with air suspension. Ugly and rusted as heck but a suspension/ride that is close to a Lincoln town car. Who would have thought that my beat up Subaru still has one over my newer Lexus!
  20. I have a dirty fog light on the passenger side due to a rusting light bulb. Any way to clean the thing...I have tried Q-tips but the hole where the bulb enters is too small. Consequently, the light is dim from that side.
  21. I have the exact same problem. Seems to work after shutting it off for 5 minutes...so i imagine it is a heat problem. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...howtopic=13216&
  22. The picture is in New York while escorting these four ladies for breakfast before the US Open. They just "loved" my Lexus and thought it was new. :D Anyhow, I was embarrassed when the Lincoln town car taxi (those black lemosine taxis) was so much smoother than the ES300 with bumps. Is that normal? The suspension seemed only a bit better than the regular yellow NY cab in battling NY downtown road. Should I upgrade my struts. I know they are working because my mechanic says so but can I get a smoother ride like the lincoln with new ones? Opinions please...I want to impress them. ;)
  23. I had my timing belt looked at by a mechanic and he said it looked brand new! My car has 80k miles. So worry about other things.
  24. As long as it drives fine and does not lean or sway to one side or the other on the highway I would leave it. I drove a mazda for about 3 years after a frame bending accident without any problems. Further, I am told that no-one can put the humpty dumpty back together properly 100% again...and something else may go wrong if you try.
