ExM3er Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 I've just bought an 2008 IS350 with nav. I'm considering buying an extended warranty. Let's hear some opinions wether or not this is a wise choice and how many years and mileage.
SW03ES Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Extended warranties Are basically just insurance against repairs. The Lexus is very reliable, I don't know if I would spring for one.
ExM3er Posted June 2, 2012 Author Posted June 2, 2012 Extended warranties Are basically just insurance against repairs. The Lexus is very reliable, I don't know if I would spring for one. Is that the official response?
Random1 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 We bought the extended warrany and technical warranty only because last time we did that one week before the extended warranty expired our car came up with a huge repair bill that was covered except for the 100.00 deductable. It also included a rental car. The repair bill covered far exceeded the purchase price of the coverage. It's like Vegas...you may never need it...but we rolled the dice last time and glad we came out ahead. Really most experts will tell you not to get it. However GAP insurance is a must. If you total your Lexus this fills the gap between whaty you may owe and what your Car Insurance is willing to cover.
pj8708 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 This is a volunter site and not owned by Lexus or any other company. Therefore, there is no such thing as an "offficial" answer or reply. If you like the thought of not having any large exspensive suprises in the future, then I would recommend the extened warranty. If exspense is not a concern, forget the warranty, Paul
LEX-SV Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 My response is the same as SW03ES, no extended warranty needed. My response reflects my opinion.
MrSunny Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hello Folks, I am a newbie and just bought a new Lexus. Just wondering if it's wise to buy the extended warranty right now or wait till my current warranty expires. Also, the dealership where I bought my car also got me to buy the Lexus Scheduled Maintenance package which is 5 years or 50K miles for almost $2000. Is that any good? Please share your opinion. Thanks!

Can you get a refund on that "Scheduled Maintenance package" and cancel that bull$#!+?

Thanks! so that works out to $200 per oil change....What exactly does the scheduled maintenance cover other than the oil changes...Do it cover brake fluid changes, coolant changes etc? If not you go ripped.
MrSunny Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 I checked the catalog and also asked my sales guy about that and they said that it only covers the regular oil changes, clean cabin/air condition filters, rotate tires, it does replace brake fluid for the 30K only basically the Lexus factory recommended service schedule. Somewhere in the forumn I read that this can be canceled for a full refund within 30 days. Have to try this today.

Then I went home and read it....egad, the exclusions turned it into a 50,000 mile warranty. Already got that with the car! Cancelled, got my money back, never shed a tear. I drove my first two Lexi to 80,000 miles....only problem was that the ashtrays got full. Solved that by quitting the cancer sticks. :) You can waste your resources any way you want....hey, I almost did!
drakelouis29 Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 i think extended warranty are only for the repairs. and may be they are just for a year or maximum 2.
MrSunny Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 So folks, I listened to all of you and also did some research and finally went to the dealership last weekend and got my Prepaid scheduled maintenance plan canceled. It seems like we have 60 days from the purchase date to cancel it. They are going to return the money to the loan as a payment. It's interesting to know that the dealer initially said $2400 for this 5 yrs 50K maintenance plan and then reduced it to $1895; I got a quote from one of the dealers online from this website for $1625. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction everyone!!!
RXES Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Hey Jim, i check 2 things when it comes to extend warranty. how much do you drive per year n how long are going to keep the car..If you are a hi-miler driver n plan on keeping the car for 5 yrs or more, extended warranty is your best investment...this will give you peace of mind n keep your hands clean...lol

Amazingly, one of the best chicken sandwiches I can find (and sorry about my flip remark before...it's rare to find somebody who asks literal questions anymore, so I got diverted into the politics).

[email protected] Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Extended warranty is just a piece of mine. If your like me like to have worry free then go ahead and buy the extended warranty. I have a 2009 lexus is250 with 28k miles on it. I double check online and found the cheapest price was 8 years 75k miles for $1200. It's an lexus warranty not any third party. My bro and sis both own Camry and have well over 110,000 miles on it. Have not had any problem at all beside regular oil change. So if you have extra money and want worry free then go for it.
