    • 1. That depends upon the rotor thickness and whether material needs to be taken off. 2. That would depend upon your part of the country. $450 seems very reasonable if quality parts are used. 3. Take a look here for suggestions. Brakes for 2005 Lexus LS430 (tirerack.com) 4. See above. 5. Yes, that's what I do unless I have the work done by the dealership. Unfortunately, if you select the hardware and they squeal, it's typically on you to rectify. 6. The front brakes always wear out long before the rears do. I'd be surprised if you need all four done.
    • According to Consumer Reports, the best version of the NX is the hybrid with an overall score of 83 vs. the non-hybrid score of 72. They describe the hybrid as "more refined". They do describe the electronic interior door releases, the unintuitive gear selector, and low center dash vents as "small faults". Fuel mileage of the hybrid is superior at 34 MPG, a 42% increase. Our RX400h cost us $50K (before tax), 19 years ago, so your $50k cost doesn't seem so bad. We get 25 MPG.
    • I bought my wife a 2024 NX250 Lexus for her birthday last week and we're already planning to take it back, cancel the sale and get something else.  While customer service at the dealer was exemplary there's multiple detractors for this model and many others I've been reading about. - Fixed non-adjustable annoying headrests. - Worst shift configuration ever conceived. The push button P,R,D,N,S-(Sport) on our Lincoln was so superior to this insanity. What was Lexus thinking? - 4CYL turbo has only 203HP while the same 4CYL motor in the 350 has 275HP? Nice way to hamstring a vehicle. - The Navigation Application is a free standard option on almost every vehicle except Lexus where you have to pay a subscription fee? - You have to manually turn off the eco engine shutdown/restart option every time you get in the car. Sheer ridiculousness. - Can't reset the MPG option. I can reset trip history but the MPG stays the same as one continuous analytic. Even tried through the dash history/reset option. We were excited to move up to a Lexus but after just 11 days that excitement has dissipated.  It doesn't make sense to keep it with so many things we don't like especially for a $50K vehicle. Wish we would have thought about this a little more before purchasing.
    • So I have a 1997 ls 400. I blew my head gasket so I ended up getting a swap with another 1uz engine with less miles. When the swap was done I  drove the car out from the mechanic shop and it was running for an hour and it just turned off on me. I towed it back to the shop and the mechanic put a new relay. The car was running for 15 mins and it turned off. Then he changed out the fuel pump because it was coming up. I got a new ecu and the old ecu wasn’t reading that I needed an ignitor for ignition OEM. I bought that part and installed it but my car just turns on and turns off. Can anyone help me out?
    • For my LS 430 2005 with a brake wear alert on dash board but brakes work fine and there is no squeal or other noises when I use brakes. I have my local mechanic who will install front and back brake pads and rotors for a labor cost of $450.  When I asked him how long it takes to do brake work, he said "1 day"!! Need help: 1.  Does this model need pads and rotors both or just brake pads? 2.  What is a fair labor cost for front and rear brake replacement by a non-dealer mechanic? 3.  Assuming I need front and rear pads and rotor and sensors, which is the best after-market brand for rotors, pads, and for sensors separately?  (I am told Lexus parts are very expensive). 4.  Should I get ceramic pads or just regular pads (non-ceramic)? 5.  Is it a good idea to buy my own parts (I am trying to use better parts than the local mechanic who will use cheapest parts).  What if there is an issue or noise after installation? 6.  Any other advise from the forum? Thanks in advance.
