That sucks but... Money talks. Your right in thinking that they had a individual that was willing to pay MSRP or even a few hundred over what you where going to. The dealer had a customer with hard money sitting in the show room vs. someone that said "they where on the way". How would they really know that you where really on the way. I guess I would have insisted in making the deposit over the phone. It took us a while to find the "right" Lexus. Some cars where sold from under us while we where looking at others in the lot. That car like many of ours where not ment to be. Later, George

Thanks for the responses. We bought it just before 45,000 miles and no the check up has not been done. It is a Certified Lezus and when I spoke to a Rep they said hat it had been checked very carefully (not the 45,000 check). Now after six months the car has 1000 miles more on it. We just got a notice asking for its "Eight month and/or 10,000 mile Interval Maintanance Service". We have not had it eight months and we have not put ten thousand miles on it (?). As a Certified Lexus we have the extended warranty and obviously don't want to do anything wrong to void it. At the same time I don't want/feel that after only 1000 mile I should bring it in. Opinions/Ideas/Suggestions ? George P.S. My wife the beater ?.... right ! ;)

OK, we got a ES300 01 about six months ago. Love it. We bought it at just over 45,000 miles on it and we have only put 1000 more. Yes, 1000. My wife uses it for church and shopping (I got the beater). Lexus is asking us to bring it in for its 8 month or 10,000 mile check up. Again we have only put 1000 miles in 6 months. Questions: It is also "due" for its 45,000 maintanace check. How long can we go before we really should take it in ? It seems to me that taking it in now with such low use/milage would be a "waste" of a check up. Suggestions/ideas ? Thanks, George

Can You Open The Trunk From Within The Trunk?
Geo replied to hammer008's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Why should anybody be stuffed in the truck of their car ?! What they needed was not a latch release but a .45 !!! Shame we have become a nation of victims. P.S. Once anybody stuffs you in a trunk your chances of surviving the encounter are greatly reduced. Geo -
OK, We where given a big Ford van to drive at work. You know the type, no air and no radio. I have a couple of old radios. One from a 99 Corolla and another fron a 93 Voager. I want to put it in the van but the connectors are nowhere close. The connectors from the Fords are blocky and the ones from the radios Ihave are narrow. In the old days you just spliced a couple of wires. Are there any adapters that I can just plug in ? If so where can I get them ? Thanks, George

Interesting. I just went through the same thing with my 99 corolla. Original battery (5 years old). Car died a couple of times. Had the battery checked. It was still holding charge but barely. Had one of those "green eye" type battery, no light. Bought a new one, no problems. As far as I know 5 years is about average. George

Using Vinegar To Remove Water Spots...
Geo replied to Geo's topic in Lexus Detailing and Car Care Forum
Just plain old water spots. They are real faint. No oxi, no paint fade. Thank, George -
OK, I have some very faint spots on my black ES. After reading some stuff on lexuscare I would like to try some vinegar to remove those spots. Questions... Do you use pure vinegar or do you cut it ? if so by how much ? Any dangers to the paint ? Thanks, George

Nick: When buying used cars... Lesson # 1. Buyer beware. You will always get screwed somewhat. Sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. I don't care if you buy a Ferrari or a Kia. I just bought a CPO Lexus and had very little problems... so far. None of the type of problems you mention. A few scratches and a couple of dings. Stuff I expected from a three year old car. Too bad that your experience has soured you to the whole experience of owning a newish car. I know you feel somewhat bad but believe me you did get the car at a fair price. To me thats what counts. No more worrying... enjoy your new car !! George

I just heard on a car show that you can use plain old mayonaise to remove tree sap. Cant hurt to try. George

Congrtas. Four months ago I got a 01 ES300. Black and tan interior with chrome wheels. I'm still finding all kind of neat stuff. George

I got a 2001 ES 300... A black and chrome beauty. My advise... Don't do anything to it. The car is a great car as is. Remember that these ES's are sofas on wheels, if you want to trick a car out there are other ones better suited. Some of the modifications just make the car look cheap or ghetto. Unless you need any plugs, brakes, suspencion, tires, oil, stereo, muffler or lights I would wait until needed. JMHO. George

I have underwear older than most of you !!! I'm 43... an old man in the forum !!! If you think time flies at 25 wait till your in your fourties. OK, first car was a 68 Volvo station wagon ("the love wagon"), second was a 71 Chevy Chevelle (I miss that muscle car, lost it in a flood), third a 80 corolla, then a 93 Voyager, a 99 Corolla and now a 01 Lexus ES300. Worked my way up none of this 17 year olds with Lexuses. Later, George

Best deal I got is with Geico. Give them a call. George

My advise... stay away from Midas. That whole brake thing is a scam. They hook you with the "lifetime" thing but they make their money by finding something else wrong with your car EVERYTIME. They figure that you will be comming in regular because of this warrenty and they have a regular sucker to help them buy the boat. I know becasue I had them try to pull a fast one on me. George

Probably because it looks like the traffic jams we all get into everyday. George

Putting On Angel Eyes and "Clearing Corners"
Geo replied to kyle0k's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Do you guys really think those things look good ? Curious, because I don't think they add anything to the car. Maybe it is a age thing. Not trying to be to critical, if you like it go for it. What do other think ? George -
Another Sacramentan ! I just got a 01 ES300 and love it. Smog is bad but a lot of the laws are nothing more than political arrangements with the enviros. If it does not pass... A suggestion. There are always ways around smog checks. Go to one of the small shops in South Sac and tell them to "tweek" it until it passes, throw them a extra 40 bucks. I know someone who did that for years on his gross polluter. Later, George

Hey Static your giving us Sacramentans a bad name Where about Sac Town do you live ? I just bought a 01 ES300 (my first real nice car) and I feel your pain. Everytime I'm driving the freeway I'm looking out ten miles ahead to avoid any pebble on the road. Water/rain... it stays in the garage. We take the "old" car out in weather. How about parking ?!!! Man, I have never walked so much now that I park the car far away from everybody else ;) . My Lexus is black and it is a pain to keep clean. But like other have said, its a car. You like I will have to learn to live with the risks of everyday life. Auugh ! As for the clear bra thing. Man, I would be concerned that after time the plastic sheet thing would discolor or start to come off on the edges and making the car look even worse. Later, George

Could it be the outside light sensor? You know the one that tells the cars lightts to come on if the outside light/weather is dark. George
