  1. Why time vs. mileage ? Less miles less wear and tear. Less breakdown in fluids, parts, etc. Why would one not do maintanence based on time vs. milage ? Seems logical. Geo
  2. My wife drives the Lex (2001 ES300). She drives it very liitle. Market, church, etc. She drives less than 50 miles per week. Can you drive a car "too little" ? Are there things that I should look out for ? Geo
  3. ISme: A newbie with basic questions ?! Your got lucky... SW03ES usually just yells at us for not doing a Search. :chairshot: Kidding of course, the Search feature will be your best friend. I've spent hours looking at stuff. Amazing the stuff you can learn. Welcome to LOC. Geo
  4. Maybe it's just me but I do not think that type of wheels/tires look good on a ES. They look like bicycle wheels/tires. Geo
  5. Top News Bird Droppings Survive Space Launch Updated 8:36 AM ET July 6, 2006 NASA's rocket scientists have a new appreciation for the out-of-this-world power of bird droppings. The orbiting space shuttle Discovery sported some whitish splotches on its black right wing edge that NASA officials said appeared to be bird droppings. Shuttle lead flight director Tony Ceccacci said he saw the same splotches on the identical part of the shuttle about three weeks ago when Discovery was on the launch pad and laughed when pictures beamed back from space Wednesday showed they were still there. That means these bird droppings withstood regular Florida thunderstorms, a mighty Fourth of July launch during which 300,000 gallons of water is sprayed at the shuttle's main engines, and a burst upward through Earth's atmosphere. During that launch Discovery went from zero to 17,500 mph in just under 9 minutes. And still the bird droppings remained in place. Mostly. Some of the droppings may have shaken off during liftoff, Ceccacci guessed. He figures the rest will burn up during landing, when the shuttle's edges get as hot as 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Rob Fergus, science coordinator for Audubon At Home, a division of the National Audubon Society, sometimes gets calls from people asking how to remove bird excrement from their cars. "Usually they can hose it off," he said. "Apparently that doesn't work with the space shuttle. Maybe they need a bigger hose."
  6. Congrats on the car. ... Wear your seat belt.
  7. I looked under Search and did not find anything that could help. Lots of "how to program keys" but nothing that I could see on losing/reprogramming the "beep". OK, the key battery for my 2001 goes dead. I replace it with the correct battery. Everything opens and arms itself OK but there is no more "beep" when doing so. I checked the manual and they mention that knob under the steering column and I moved it around with no result. How do I get the "beep" back ? Thanks, Geo
  8. Sirius Rocks !! Tried both XM and Sirius and Sirius had so much better programming thats the route I went. All of you out there wasting time with i-pods and CD's will be amazed once you try satellite. As for the antenna... there are plenty of places the antenna can be put without and loss of reception. Mine is on the inside, in the back behind the seat. Geo
  9. I just went through something like this. A young lady bumped into my car at a stop. A slow bump. I checked it out and found a small mark on the bumper. So small you have to see it in the right light to notice. I took it in to get a estimate and ideas. The manager said that they could "fix" the bumper. They would fill it, sand it, and paint it. Afer he left I pulled a tech aside and asked him. He told me that the bumper would never come out perfect. I left it alone. George
  10. Sorry to be so dense... How in the world do you make this thing work ?! Tried several ways to download and come up blank. All I want is the 2001. Geo
  11. I've been looking at the CD vs. ipod thing myself. The problem I have is I don't have 1/100 of the music I want. I'm not buying CD's and I'm not paying .99 to down load. Don't have many friends that have similar tastes so my solution is to go to satallite radio. SIRUS to be exact. You should check it out. Geo
  12. OK, so I'm stopped at a light and this young lady bumps into me. The only "damage" are two barely noticible indentations from her license plates. I mean you can't see them. I took the car into a insurance inspector at a body shop just to be sure that there was nothing else that I may have missed and to document the damage. The insurance person checked everything and said that to fix it it would be $400. But after she left the body shop guy told me that if I wanted I could get a new bumper and "stick it" to the other insurance company and the young lady. Guys, there is nothing wrong with the bumper. Two little marks that almost can't be seen. I'm not the most honrable guy out there but I'm not going screw the other person over. If you wonder why insurance rates are so high its partly because dishonest people and dishonest shops out there. Geo
  13. Ok, Ok, I got a boring old 99 rolla but I figured it is time to put something to prevent it from being stolen. I know that there is really not a great steering wheel/pedal lock but.... what would you guys buy if you had to ? I don't want to bother with a sound alarm system since everybody ignores tham now days. I want to make the bad guy move on to a "easier" car. George
  14. Gabriella, don't know why the latch is not releasing. Hope you get some suggestions here. But... I just don't buy this idea... Why would a "pirate" or burned CD cause the CD changer to fail ? The copied CD's (the round plastic) are made by the same companies that make the "original" ones. As long as they are round and in good condition they should never affect the CD changer. Geo
  15. 94LexusES: Leave the car alone. I like that colour and any re-paint will never look good. Geo
  16. OK, I have a 01 Es300. Its black so no clear coat. Any special precautions ? Any special clean/waxing procedures ? George
  17. Man, I got all excited because I also have a 01 but what the hell ?! $10-$12,000 !!! ... I'll just stick to a $2.00 map. George
  18. 94Lexus: I did not mean to offend you in any way but your post on the top of the page gave the impression that you did not care and or where giving up. Good luck, George
  19. 94Lexus... Sorry to say this but it should matter ! Don't take their word for anything. It sounds to me that this "mechanic" and "dealer" knew enough to disconnect the odometer to hide the mileage. Make sure you are paying for a 183,000 mile car and not a 89,000 mile car. I would even run a CarFax on it to see if there are no other hidden stories. Your 17years old and this may be one of your first lessons in the real word. Trust no one. Don't be scared to confront them, have your dad or someone else help you if needed. Don't be scared of fighting the good fight. JMHO Later, George
  20. I have the 2001 ES300... a very classy car. Mine is black with a tan interior. I looked at several before going with the 2001. I liked how clean the tail lights looked and it just seemed to have more elegant lines. I also liked all the chrome on black. George
  21. Like I said let the nav people know. George
  22. I'm very impressed. I have a hard time setting my alarm clock ! George
  23. What do you guys expect Lexus to do ? I don't have a nav system but know that these sytems are not perfect. Even "old school" Thomas Bros. maps are wrong at times. Even Yahoo maps can get funky at times. These things usually get sorted out with time. If anything I would inform the nav sytem people of the mistakes and let them check it out. Live with it... and take a old fashioned paper map with you. George
