  1. he posted the question in July of 2004, I am sure he has made a decision by now. steviej
  2. dude, you are responding to a thread that hasn't been active for over 16 months. your have done this in many threads all in one morning. chill out a little, I know you just got a new car and your excited, but enough is enough. You are waking up dead threads. On the other hand, Welcome to the club, steviej ES/IS Forum Moderator.
  3. 1990, you assume that we all carry wallets. Several of my friends carry their ID, bills and maybe credit card all in one clip, no bulky wallet. steviej
  4. because it is ILLEGAL in my part of the woods. Many residents here and other parts of the country are not on town sewer lines. Instead they still have leaching fields and title 5 and septic tanks and so forth. The EPA would have something to say about it I am sure. The transfer stations around here accept it free of charge so that morons and cheap *BLEEP*s don't pour it secretly down the drain to avoid the charge if it were imposed. The transfer stations have it professionally hauled off from there. I am sure it is built into the cost of the transfer station permit and town taxes, but at least it ain't in my back yard. steviej
  5. call your local "transfer station" or recycle center. What used to formely be known as the "dump" in my town is now a very high tech transfer station. Trash, paper, cardboard, wood, debris, plastic, glass, leaves, everything is brought there and sorted to its respective recepticles. The nicest feature of my station is that they take old/used motor oil and coolant for disposal at no cost to the disposer. steviej
  6. this happened on my old Bonneville SSEi. The honeycomb type element inside the cat came loose. The rattle noise was annoying but the emissions test (tested the old way with a probe up the tail pipe) were close to baseline. It was heard the most when driving around Boston and the Big Dig, jersey barriers on both sides of you in a tunnel makes for a wonderful echo chamber. $295 and the cat section was replaced. The car was much quieter and even seemed to have better pick up. I would say that the exhaust was partially occluded. steviej
  7. 2000esplat, I have moved your thread to the proper forum. Please view the other threads that are similar to your question. Tire selection is a poplular topic on this website, so we have a whole forum devoted to it. Don't go with the Bridgestone RE92, absolutely the worst tire ever made. check out www.tirerack.com for much better pricing, and they will even coordinate with a shop near you to do the installation. Getting tires from the dealership will cost you more than you need to spend. Look at local big name tire stores. steviej
  8. a good body shop can blend and match the paint perfectly. If that is the shop they tell you to go to, then check it out. Also, ask them to pick up the tab is you bring it to a bodyshop of you choice. Keep in mind, the entire bumper will come off and be repainted, it will blend easier that way. They are not going to just sand and paint the chipped area. If they are good, you won't notice a thing. steviej
  9. That is exactly what my Lexus dealership and two other Toyota dealerships stated as well. They don't trust the red stuff to go the distance so they routinely suggest changing it out at 3 years or 45,000 miles. Monarch, don't lump ALL independent shops into one category. Many around here are well stocked with the fluids that are "mandatory" by the factory, this especially includes Toyota and Honda. Part of the responsibility goes to the owner to seek out a reputable knowledgable shop. steviej
  10. I have a 2002 ES and my sunroof opens with one touch of a button, the rear tilts up with one touch of a button and closes with one touch of a button. If I press and hold the unlock button of my key, the windows and sunroof all open. Start with the button inside the car, when you push it and the roof does not open, do the lights dim a bit? I am wondering if the motor is getting power if it has crapped out all together. Can you hear it running when you push the button? Check all your fuses, too. steviej
  11. I am getting quite interested in these. At $112 for V rating (for tire only) it is not too bad. Agreed, current reviews are mileage limited. I just can't stand how loud the Dunlop Sport A2s have gotten in two years. However, the traction in wet slush snow and on dry pavement is outstanding. The noise level totally tips the scale. steviej
  12. pose the question or search the FAQ on www.homelink.com. I'm sure you are not the first to think of that scenario. steviej
  13. funny, I have read in several different places that the OEM shocks/struts are made by KYB. steviej
  14. I can't believe this. Once again the conventional vs synthetic oil debate rears its ugly head again. I think over the years and across the forums it is agreed that there are strong viewpoints for both sides of the usage spectrum. This website definately has members devoted to one side or the other. It has been asked time and time again that we refrain from these discussions because they just lead to the same agruements and debates as well as resurfaces hard feelings towards members that don't share the same viewpoint or members that continuous bombard this forum with the same old links and statements form the manufacturers. People, it is time to move on. steviej
  15. replace the antenna stalk. $30 is about right. for more information, use the SEARCH button. This has been covered many times, too. steviej
  16. there is no remote CD changer with this ES model. It has a 6 CD in-dash changer. I bet you the LoJack module was here. They cut it out and sent if FedEx in the opposite direction to throw the cops off the trail. :whistles: steviej
  17. there are too many threads and heated debates on the books about regular vs synthetic oils and oil change intervals. Please don't pursue answers to questions that can easily be answered by using the SEARCH function. SteveyG, just do a search on the word "synthetic" and open the search to anything posted from 7 days ago and older. You will have a plethera of threads to review to come to your own conclusion about what oil to use and how often to change it. Note to all: If the dreaded "oil debate" resumes I will shut this thread down immediately. As for your 105k maint. question. Consider a tranny drain and fill or flush if it hasn't been done in a while. They will do that as part of the 105k because it is a 15k mile service interval. Hence the $500 price tag from the dealer. Change the air filter and cabin filter is they haven't been done within the last year. Rotate the tires if they haven;t been rotated within the last 10,000 miles. Coolant was most likely done when the waterpump was changed. If that was at 90k then I wouldn't worry about it now. Consider the brake fluid and PS fluid if they haven't been flushed in the last 30k miles or two years. steviej
  18. they could have opened the trunk with the emergency release handle. It's a long reach from the back seat pass through but do-able. If the car had the ML sound system, the amplifier for that system is in the section where the cut out is. However, doesn't look like this car had the ML. maybe it was a special request section of body panel for a "customer". steviej
  19. if it is just the glass, not bad at all. I think it is held to two brackets with four screws. steviej
  20. As far as the replacing seals are concerned, they are replaceable. The glass is very slightly repositionable, however, making one side tighter will make another side looser. I replaced the seal on my old Bonneville SSEi and the Lexus dealer replaced the one on my ES under a TSB/warranty. It is not too hard, but a mechanical knowledge of the sunroof glass removal is key. Check the seal for cracks and rips. You could try applying some silicone to it to bring back the suppleness. If it is too far gone (meaning dry and cracked) then replacment is most likely. When they did my Lexus the time showed it was and hour and a half job. But before you get too much into replacing the seals, do follow previous suggestions about the drains. steviej
  21. exactly!! Are we talking an ES, IS, GS, SC, RX??? which model 300? if you actually took the unit out or disconnected it, there may be an audio system security code that may need to be punched in for the unit to work again. steviej
  22. All that should be in the manual that will come with your new car. Make a big cup of coffee and have a good read. You will be surprised at the number of questions that get posted here that are answered simply in the owners manual or supplemental owners manual. Enjoy the new ride and this site. steviej
  23. you could try pulling the codes yourself. here is a link to explain how. Post the code(s) you get. Lexus Trouble Codes steviej
