  1. just promise me you won't put on those neon valve stem caps. please don't do that. sj
  2. find something else to put you money on, like dinner and a movie and a date. steviej try searching "consumer reports" for this stuff. I'm sure they have looked into it. Also, remember this, if it was THAT good, the stores couldn't be able to keep in on the shelves and at least one major gas company would offer a blend with it premixed in. These ain't happenin.
  3. lexdriver, just hit you lock button on the key another time. The lights will go out immediately after you get out of the car and the doors are locked. You can leave the selector in DRL all the time and don't have to move it. steviej
  4. sk said it best and beat me to it. :P ************** I hate the parking brake on the 02. It is just a parking brake. It is the worst design possible. Step on to engage and then step on it again to disengage. You can't use this type to assist in stopping like a hand brake with release button. You can't work the pedal and hold the release with your hand to prevent lock up of the pedal like in a GS. poor design on the 02+ parking brake. ************** steviej
  5. Alan, it may not be reversable in that they can't rewrite the old program over the latest version. But, find out you options on total replacement of the ECU. They should be able to take an ECU from an ES that didn't have the upgrade and drop it in your ES. (kinda like replacing the processor in your computer). If Lexus didn't make all caviats of the upgrade known to you, then they are neglegent and should offer you a replacement ECU. I would talk to Lexus Customer Service again and push this point to them. You are not satisfied with the upgrade and they didn't tell you it was irreversable. When in doubt, take them to small claims court. steviej
  6. it's all quiet now, even the moonroof ain't creaking either. I appreciate the car even more when it is totally quiet. steviej
  7. update 8/11/03: they found something wrong with the right front strut. It is being replaced tomorrow. I will know if that was it, by Tues. night. steviej
  8. I conquer with Alan. I must say that 1 week is a short time. I would be surprisxed if this happened over the coarse of 3-4 weeks, but not one. Is there a light stuck on somewhere that is putting a further drain on the battery to bring it down to 1 week? If the battery is load tested and each cell checks out, look into the trickle charger. But first, see if the dealership will replace the battery at no cost just if they can't completely test each cell. 1 week is too short if it is just routine computer drainage. steviej
  9. 93 octane and K&N filter: 23-24 mpg for around town/city driving 29-31 mpg for all out 65-75 mph highway driving. steviej
  10. I wish Lexus made motorcycles. I just got my permit and would love to say I drive both (aka, like Honda) What motorcycles do Lexus owners here drive? My family is partial to Hondas and I like the HD Sportster 1200. just curious. steviej
  11. hey, what about me, Alan copied my spoiler :P I had it first........ I'm just being a brat. Alan......your have impecable taste if I do say so myself.
  12. PM my friend lexusk8 here or on CL. He is a Coach Edition expert. I do know the RX300 came in Coach also. steviej
  13. Steve (SW03ES), listen to this, I am out by my car and decide to shake each wheel while the car is flat on all four.. The left two and right rear are solid, BUT the right front (sound eminating from this wheel-remember) clunks when I shake it. At 27k can a wheel bearing go bad? Tomorrow I have to put a different tire on and make sure it is not the rim shaking and it is infact the hub. I'm getting closer. I will keep you posted once again. steviej
  14. that's what I do, and I don't include the spare (save that for a rainy day, but do check it occasionally to make sure it is holding pressure). sj
  15. 7th fuel injector is dirty and/or the idle air control valve is carbed up. a bottle of fuel injector cleaner (chevron w/Techron) may help if it is the injector. Removal of the IAC valve is needed to clean that. On a side note cause another member just posted about it, Toyota and Lexus has been plaqued with a recurrent problem on idle and startup due to cracked bellows in the air tube. This is the large black hose that goes from the air box to the throttle body. It soemtimes can get cracked or develop pin sixed holes that let in more air that the engine thinks it is letting in. This throws off the sensors and results in a rough idle or startup. steviej
  16. nope, you don't lose the programming. Just pop in a new battery and go. This is a common battery and can be found in any camera store, CVS, Walgreens, Rita-Aid, Wal-Mart, Autozone, PepBoys, etc. just make sure you got the poles right when you put the new one in. good luck, steviej
  17. windex "no drip" and lintless paper towels. got to do it twice if you want it nice. steviej
  18. report this to your Lexus service manager. They may need to retrain the tech that performed your balance there, or they may need to check their balance machine. It won't get attended to if they don't know about it. This recently happened to my friend. It turned to be technician error. steviej
  19. they are a poor attempt on lexus for edge protection. 3M makes this material and it can be bought in sheets to apply to bumper, hood edge, etc to help eliminate paint chips from rocks and debris. The 02 has it also. When waxing, a toothbruch can be used to get dried wax out of the edge/crease. steviej
  20. nice! but then again, I'm kinda partial to chrome. sj
  21. stand over each corner of the car, you will do this four times. with both hands and one steady motion, push down with a lot of force on each corner of the car. If the shocks are ok, the car should come to rest in one up and down motion. If the shocks are bad or on their way out, it will bounce a few times. also listen for any kind of grinding noise when the car is pushed down and when the car is bouncing. Mind you, this is a rudamentary examination. steviej
  22. piggy, you won't feel the pulsation from ABS in the steering wheel so much as you will in the brake pedal. kevin, what year lex? If you have a 2002+ and the brakes are original, then there is a TSB for pulsation. They will swap out you rotors and pads at no cost to you. There was a production material mismatch which sets up easy warping and pulsation when the brakes hot from high speed or excessive use. If it is <2002 then look into replacing the rotors (pads if necessary) either yourself or by a reputable shop. Alan, you are too cool. steviej
  23. skeemer 298 for parts is high. You can get reman. half shafts for less that a C-note each. Labor is a little over an hour for each side. I agree with ellieoh, you can do better on price. Is your mechanic getting the shafts from Toyota, Lexus or a third party supplier. They may cost most from Lexus and less form Toyota but may be the same part. steviej
  24. hey Steve, I'm out of luck on this one. There are NO user servicable grease fittings on the bushings or ball joints on the 02. Absolutely nothing, front and back. Oh well. I was thunder and lightning last night, so I should here anything today. steviej
