  1. water weighs 8lbs/gallon. Gasoline weighs less than water. A full tank of gas would weight 148 lbs if it where water. Figure less than 148 lbs. for gasoline. sj
  2. I don't think "cleaner CDs" will work in the coin slot or cartridge type CD players. The little brushes that extend off the cleaning side make them way to thick to be pulled into the drive bay of the CD player. Pay the $8 and have the dealer do it....that way they are responsible. As for the spark plug price....welcome to the wonderful world of "corporate screw 'em" :chairshot: my plugs are irridium and are over $12 each from my dealer. That will be a DIY. Screw them back on the labor charge!!!! steveij
  3. I think I will go get an extra set of amber bulbs this sat and try this. It can't hurt. there is another bulb by Rayburg, called the Stealth. same idea, and same outcome....not available in wedge 7440. steviej
  4. at this point I would have just gotten a whole new set and then ordered the extra key. Any tire shop and a few of my friends can get the locks off (but they are tied up right now for about 10-20 for GTA). steviej
  5. not to burst your bubble, but PIAA doesn't make an H7 marketed in the states for the H7. I do think you can find them on the web from outside the states. only H4, H3, and 9004, 9005, 9006. these PIAAs run about $75/pair. an H7 Sylvania Silverstar (very close to PIAA) can be had from Europe on the web. Most Silverstars run about $40-60/pair and can be had in most autoparts stores. check you manual for the proper bulbs needed. I agree with squarehat, the 2 gen ES is/was H7 for lows, 9005 for highs and H3 for fogs. Whatever you do, make sure the wattage if the new bulb is what the car requires. 55-60w. Don't deviate from this. steviej
  6. with what little info that you give, it could be any number of problems. Help us out by telling us the number of miles, has any major service been done. As for your problems, several things to check are: 1. Is the engine getting fuel, have a garage check fuel pressure if you do not know how to do the quick check. 2. Are the cylinders getting spark....how old are the plugs, are they dirty, when where they last changed. 3. Is the engine getting air....when was the last time you changed the air filter. Is the one in there diry, clogged or just neglected. 4. Are the fuel injectors clogged, when was the last time the injectors got a good dose of a good cleaner? 5. Is the idle air control motor working properly or is it clogged with carbon. 6. Is the PCV valve clogged or crudded up. 7. Is the battery old? 8. Is the throttle body dirty or does it have a build up of carbon. Most of all, when the car dies, is the check engine light coming on before it stalls. This could give you the code you need to find out what is failing. The sensor that elicits the stall will hold an answer. You may have to leave with shop so that they can hook up a scan tool and read any codes on a cold startup. steviej
  7. Mr Sypher, all the details are in a CL thread. here is a quick link: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...&threadid=89525 should be a fun time, the gokarts sound extremely fun. OK, all of it does. Hope to see you there. steveij
  8. steve, you and me both for the silvervision. Only prob is our bulbs are 7440/7443 wedges and the silvervisions only come in 1156 old style. I have gone to Philips "contact us" and dropped a request that they consider coming out with the silvervision in wedge style. sj.
  9. hhhhhheeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! lexusk8 is in the house!!!!! :chairshot: dude, you joined in Jan. 03 and you are just sparking up now? You been hidin in the wings...........sneaky devil. nice to see you. steviej.
  10. I don't know why, but Lexus' O2 sensors are very high priced. But yep, sounds about right according to what other people had posted. Next time, try pricing this out at a Toyota dealership first. Maybe a C-note less. My old 93 Bonneville SSEi had one and it was $30 to fix it. I can't wait for the Lex to fail one, hopefully it will be under warranty. sj
  11. when the mats and carpets get that bad, that is when I send the car off to my detailer for a thorough steam cleaning. car comes back clean as a whistle inside and out. oh yeah, with a little bag of popouri in the ashtray too. sj
  12. that is my next mod. Did you go with PIAA xtreme whites? What was the actual bulb brand wattage and number. ie 7440 or 7443. steviej
  13. SW03ES, it is very odd, the 02 and 03 are basically the same car with the addition of adjustable pedals in the 03. BUT: the 02 manual calls for premium and says a lesser grade could be used in a pinch. the 03 manual calls for regular grade and says to use premium for improved performance. My guess is too many people complained that they "had" to buy premium so the coorporate suits reworded the section to quiet the masses and keep their behinds covered. steviej
  14. I got the weather tech mats for the winter also. Ugly yes, but snow, sludge, and melting ice is uglier. Not a bad price, $49.95 front set, $39.95 for rear set. It was worth it. I guess the Lexus mats will vary. I didn't price them on Sewell Lexus' site (www.lexus-parts.com). Just bought them from Lexus of Norwood in MA. steviej
  15. most tire shops and definately Lexus shops have the universal socket to get the lock nut off. If you don't have the key code, just go to you dealer and have them take the old ones off and put a new set on. The new set has the key and the new code. If the price is too high from them, then just have them take the lugs off. I make it a point to always have an extra lock lug and an extra key in the garage. steviej
  16. not soooooo SW03ES!!!. I just bought a set of 4 mats for my 02. (front and back, fronts come with the little holes to keep them in place). The set of four cost $110 from the Lexus dealership. And is that expensive......damn straight its is. $110 for mats that don't stay clean. I wish you could buy just the driver's mat separately. And I ain't putting that plastic cover on them...it will look like my great grandma's living room. steviej
  17. try ebay, these mags are always showing up. sj
  18. use what it says in you owner's manual. steviej
  19. remanufactured 1/2 shafts come complete with two new boots and fully packed CV joints. They should be less than $100. Takes just shy of 2 hours to replace if you know what you are doing and you have the right tools. steviej
  20. Never be without your owner's manual. The link you posted is for repair manuals and they are expensive. owners manuals have the fuse layout in them too. They go for about $20 from your dealership or www.lexus.com. you can get them cheap from www.lexus-parts.com try this link, it is the first three parts listed: http://www.lexus-parts.com/partlist.asp?Su...D=26&ModelID=48 and of course ebay is always got a few up for grabs. Sometimes these come with the leather pouch too. Check it out. steviej
  21. hang tight and change the way you accelerate. copied from my post on CL. register you complaint with 1-800-25-LEXUS, your service manager and the NTSHB (if can be a safety issue). When you drive the car, just don't punch it. It will actually accelerate very quickly if you go half to 3/4 throttle. Lexus is supposedly working on it. There is a fix for the Canadian version ES. If you do a search on 02 Transmissions and 03 Transmissions you will see several threads. The problem seems to have become more apparent in the ES with the advent of the 5 speed tranny that made its debut in the 02 model. not to be snide....but....get in line. Other than that, it is a totally awesome car. steviej
  22. put the headlight switch in the off position and turn them on/off when you need them. You won't have DRL in this position and they won't come on automatically in this position either. As for the 30 second delay....this IS a dealer adjustable time. What the limits of the adjustability are..I do not know. steviej
  23. recheck the ABS senors and make sure they didn't come unpluged when you had the calipers off the mounts. After the pads and rotors where put on, did you bleed the brakes properly. You may have a pressure problems (air bubbles) in the pressure modulator valve. There should be a code in the ECU that can help pinpoint the exact sensor in the ABS system that is tripping the light. If it continues and the sensor wires are plugged in and not damaged, have the code read. steviej
  24. the 02/03s come standard with a strut bar so I have no comparison on that model without a bar. sj
  25. There is a gathering of lexus owners in the works for CT on Sat. 8/2/03. The day includes gokart racing (the 40mph type), gaucking at the cars and dinner at hooters., then the finale of cruising the Berlin Turnpike and joining in on a supposed BMW meet. If anyone is interested please post for directions, times and detail. steviej.
