  1. Thanks, Jaswood. So you are saying the noise comes from spring coil rubbing the strut mount. The idea of using a water hose seems to me would be easily worn out, so does yours turn out pretty good? This is definitely worth a try, saving at least 130 bucks :) Thanks again!
  2. Hi, all, I know this front strut mount noise is a well known issue. my 99 RX300 (157k miles) now is getting worse on this. I am planning to get both replaced. My question is should I just replace the strut mount or I should replace strut, spring too? If I just change strut mount, do I need an alignment too? Also, my back one is making some noise too know (thanks to my recent trip to Jackson, MS, worse city roads ever). The noise is kind like da.da.da, different from the one from front strut. What should I change in this case, the whole strut? Thanks so much for any information.
  3. I want to update my repair. I have been putting this off for almost year now; partly because I could not find the part (blower motor control/resistor) from ebay. Luckily I bought a used one last week, and it took me about 10 minutes to put it on (could've done it in less than 5 minutes I think). And everything is fine now. Thanks for your help.
  4. Thanks Code58. Sorry I did not provide enough info, I have a 99 RX300. I didn't go to dealers, don't want to be robbed off. I only tried ebay. I was hoping to get a used one there. Thanks for your info about fan and AC, that cleared my mind. And I am in GA. I was suspecting that the smell comes from something being too hot b/c of the fan not coming on. I guess I still need to do some research to find out why now. BTW, I don't believe this is my first post though :)
  5. Guys, I had problem with my blower fan where it comes on and off intermittently. I suspected it's the relay but i was not able to find a replacement. Lately I am smelling rubber burnt after stopping the car. Both fans are not running when I parked the car. I tested the two cooling fans in the front by providing 12V power, they all work. My question is when should the fans come up? I think one is for AC so it's not supposed to come on if AC is off. But what I am seeing now is when i start the car, and let it idle a few minutes, none will come on. If I turn on the AC, both fans run. And I am seeing water condensed on the AC pipes under the hood. Can you guys give me some ideas on what this could be? If the blower is not working, will that cause the condensation? Thanks so much!!
  6. I thought it'd be the blower motor, what does the servo motor do? I don't quite understand that. I just unplugged the blower motor and tested its power, looks like the blower motor is good. Its power supply seems to be intermittently powered on and off. I will check where that power comes from. Maybe the blower motor control relay? Update: I checked the blower control relay, looks like it's bad. Here is what I found out: the relay control has two plugs side by side: [[1 2 3]] [[4 5]] Here 1/2/3 is on plug, 4 and 5 is another one which goes into blower motor. When I turn the blower on in the control panel, 1 and 3 has a constant 12v power. Please let me know if I get this wrong. Does anyone know the part number for this relay and where is a good place to buy? Thanks!!
  7. I have not changed the filter for quite some time, I actually took it out earlier and it is dirty. I will get it changed asap. And thanks so much for the diagram, it's really helpful to understand it. I will work on it when I have time and report back what I find out.
  8. Thanks Jeff. So you think the fan issue could be from the blower. The servo motors, I think it's ok, other than the noise, no complaints from me. I will try open the blower up and clean it out.
  9. Greetings, all, My 99 R300 suddenly has an issue with the fan or blower, I don't know which. The symptom is that once I turn on the fan, it blows for a few seconds (5 - 10 seconds) and then it turns off, and after a few seconds, it turns back on again. I don't think it has anything to do with temperature sensor as I just turned the fan on, not with automatic. The two fan in the front seem to be working fine all the time. I can't seem to make sense of this. Have you guys seen anything like this? Another minor issue I realized today while checking, the passenger side, under the glove compartment, I hear this noise, it's like a motor trying to position something, keeps moving back and forth, kinda like robot moving his arm up and down, that kind of sound. I have been thinking that it's from the CD changer so I really did not think too much until today that I found where it came from. [[ update: i opened up under the glove compartment, and found where that noise is from; it apparently is from the temperature control. i can see it moves when i turn down or up the temperature. One thing, there are two aluminium pipes, very hot, is that for AC, is the hotness normal?]] I really appreciate anyone with any info or direction for me, P.S. Sorry if this is a frequent question, I did try a search, but the key word fan came up with too many results. Thanks very much!!
  10. Thanks, guys. I was hoping that acuators are good. Well, guess I will have another entry in the to-do list.
  11. Hi, guys, I have been troubled by this for some time now. We have a 99 300, the door locks don't always work. When I tried to open or close the doors from the driver side button, sometimes it works, but sometimes it does not. So it's not the actuators, they should be fine. it appears that more than half times it won't work, i hear the pop sound and the door locks move a little bit, but short of locking the doors. What other possibilities would there be? Any ideas? Cheers!!
  12. Well, I heard that it's very tricky to let some out, it might damage the valve and also dangerous. I don't know what I should do now. May eventually take it to a shop. The AC comes on with big fan noise for about 2, 3 seconds and then shuts itself off. Sounds like what you said about the high pressure. I will let you know what happens next. Thanks so much!!
  13. Greetings, everyone. Our 99 RX300's AC started not working about 4 days ago. I went to the auto zone and bought a can of R134 and put it in. I bought the kit with pressure gauge so I was able to read the pressure. However when I charge it, I might have added a little bit more (the reading says it's in alert range). That was yesterday. Today I took the gauge and tried it again. At first the readings was in the alert range. Then it dropped to green area (which means it's good). So I think I did not put too much of R134 in. But apparently, adding 134 did not work. If I turned the car on and put the AC to max (with air mode to be circling), the AC turned on for about 2, 3 seconds, and then the circling air light turns off along with the AC. It's very weird to me, as I tend to think that the AC light should be off. Could anybody explain me why it's doing this? I think I should take it to the pros, but would like to know what's happening first. Thanks very much!! Ryan
  14. All, I got the master keys made from the lexus dealer. Thank God, that this is the first time, so all mighty lexus company paid for the computer, I just paid for the keys and labor. But the new question comes out, the service man said my door actuator is bad and he could not program the remote. And the cost to fix one is 540. I can open/close all doors from inside with the button on the door. I am just wondering that is there any way for me to make sure the actuator is dead? Thanks,
  15. Greetings, I just lost the only master key we had and am using a non-master key now. I am wondering how much it would cost to get a copy of master key from either a lexus dealer or some other places? Any directions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cheers.
