  1. sorry mrcel3, no way to check unless you invest in a code reader. as blake said, Autozone will read the code for free. Code P1135 is Bank 1 Senor 1, the Lexus has a batch of O2 sensors that were used on the 2002 that had problems. If the car is CPO, then is should be covered. If you bought from an non-Lexus dealer, see what their warranty is/was. Either way, the O2 sensor (if that is the problem) can be had for less money online and is very easy to change if you have an O2 socket, also available at Autozne. Another word to the wise, use only Toyota/Lexus OEM O2 sensors. Psot whatever code Autozone give you, we can tell you what the interp is. good luck, steviej
  2. take the assembly out, hold it lens down in a tray of water (just over the siliconed area). see if any water seeps in. The other possibility is moisture is getting in around where the bulb is inserted. Check to see if the gasket on the bulb connector is intact. steviej
  3. mind you, the wallet key on pre-02 cars will not start the car.....it will only get you into the cabin. I know not whether the wallet key holder from a 02+ can be programmed for an pre-02 car. depending on the year of the car, the valet key will start the car, but may need to be programmed like the main keys. The valet key will not get you into the trunk from the rear seat passage way nor will it open a locked glove box. Hint for searching: alot of searches don't work because people forget to set the search time criteria. Ususally they type in a word and hit search. I usually set the time criteria to search on "365 days ago and newer" steviej
  4. I was waiting for someone to notice this. The duplicate threads were rightly removed (not by me). I didn't follow suit with the removal of this one because two people had replied and I wanted to see if anyone commented. SW, you win the prize. I just don't know what the prize is yet. steviej
  5. if you bought it from a dealership (Lexus or not), go back. They had to at least give you a 30 day warranty. Have them rectify the situation. If it was a private sale, check you local law, the same 30 day warranty may still apply. as sk said, a little more details will help us help you. steviej. PS, please don't type in all caps, that is considered yelling and rude on this site. Thanks. :D
  6. sorry for the bad link, I guess it would go right to the fog lamp page. I revised my earlier post with instructions on how to get to the fog lamps using the link in that post that did work. again, sorry for the confusion. steviej
  7. try ebay or online Lexus parts dealers for a second set of IS wheels. Then shod them with dedicated snow tires. Goodyear, Michelin, Toyo and Bridgestone make some decent dedicated snow tires. Toyo actually incorporates chestnut/walnut shells into the rubber to aid in traction. Interesting concept, knida like environmentally friendly spikes. Where in Central MA are you? I was born in Fitchburg. steviej
  8. i just peed myself. sk, I don't think the IS can get blown for $1000. :( steviej
  9. does the IS come standard with a limited slip differential? If not, what about an LSD, if you are headed to drifting/autocross, etc? steviej
  10. the trouble code will tell you exactly which one of the O2 sensor is faulty. each sensor will generate a different number code. See if the mechanic can give you the exact code, for example P1135 is the code for the O2 sensor located at (Bank 1 Sensor 1). sk has a good suggestion. you can get a scanner online for about $100 USD. This will save you the diagnostic fees in the future. think about it. steviej
  11. did they tell you what sensor was bad or not working (there are a many sensors in the car? My guess it was an O2 sensor. If it was, these are easy to replace if you know which one is faulty or totally not working. Several sites on the web sell these parts for a fraction of the cost it would be from the dealer direct. Do you know what trouble codes were read from the Check Engien Light? steviej
  12. you can't play the "what if game". You were there for a reason. Take comfort in that you were able to help, whatever was done. It happens to all of us, sometimes the events are so little we don't notice let alone think about them. Sometimes the events are so life changing for those involved. steviej
  13. Look where the steering column goes throught the firewall. There is usually a rubber collar/gasket that will allow a few wires to pass though. steviej
  14. eeexcellent Smithers! off the top of my head, I wouldn't have thought of that, but I must say you've got a very good point. I was thinking more of matching rear trunk lip or spoiler with matching roof spoiler and eyelids. steviej
  15. I stand corrected and apologize to sk. IACV = Idle air control valve. The ones on the 1MZFE tend to get carboned up and sluggish over time. The valve assembly needs a good cleaning every so often. if fuel pressure is suspected, have a shop hook up a pressure monitor so that you can record the fuel rail pressure on cold start up, warm start up, etc. steviej
  16. possible, did they replace the strut cartridges or the entire strut assemblies? steviej
  17. I had clear fog lamps with stock white"ish" bulbs on my 02 ES. I swapped them for PIAA Xtreme White lamps and then finally swapped those out for PIAA Ion Crystal yellow bulbs. I really prefer the yellow bulb. here are some pics. and check them out on PIAAs web site use the store locator (based on your zip code) to find a local dealer. I paid $30 for each bulb and so far they have lasted 18 months. I also have the fogs on whenever my headlights are on. hope this helps. steviej

  20. how bout the struts themselves, either both or just one. steviej
  21. one came standard on my 02 ES. It does come in very handy. steviej
  22. there is a ton of information on www.tirerack.com It is all explained with pictures, etc. here steviej
  23. That will tend to lead people to believe that details are not important to you. People will have a tendency to not read your posts because they don't want to decipher the hidden words.
