  1. I am guessing a lazy fuel pump or a fuel pressure regulator problem. I will move this to the LS forum as they may have more specific experience. steviej
  2. sk, i couldn't agree with you more on the parenting class. steviej
  3. hammer, thanks for stacking the pics in your sig. It eliminated the side to side scrolling. steviej
  4. If your ES is an 02, 03 or 04, then the air box is a little harder to get into. Besides the two bolts, the small bracket holding a valve on the back side or the cover has to be removed so that the top cover can move up freely. They probably did the two bolts and could move the cover enough to get at the filter and called it quits. In addition, they may not have had the filter element in stock. I'm not surprised as the Denso filter has a different construction than most aftermarket Penzoil/Fram/STP filters. I do all my own routine service, but I also have a garage packed with most tools needed to do the minor repairs from oil changes to brake replacement to pulling a motor out. Most of the routine items are fluid replacements which are a piece of cake once you have done it one time. There are plenty of threads here that give step by step instuctions for the easy stuff. The hardest part is the proper disposal of the old fluids. Word to the wise though, if you choose to go somewhere else than the dealer, keep all your paperwork. Non-dealer service centers will not be able to log into the nationwide Lexus computer system so you will be responsible for keeping track of all service that is performed. The service center (Toyota, independents, JiffyLube, etc......even some Lexus services centers) you choose is up to you. Some are very good and some are not that careful. steviej
  5. just get a new battery. If the price tag of the Red Top is too high for your 8 year old car, then consider a DieHard for half the price. steviej PS, please stack the pics in your sig rather than having them side by each. This is causing the thread to widen severely. Members have to scroll left to right and up and down on your threads right now.
  6. I'm shutting this thread down. We have been down this road before with this website. Anyone interested can search. At least this time, the website spelt "insurance" right in the address. steviej
  7. because the large majority of the consumers out there take things for granted, are misinfomred or just do not know. My father used to teach a course in highschool. He called it "Automotive Survival" It was a course geared for the average teenager to help them understand the basics of how the car operates and the basics the owner needs to do to keep it operating efficiently. Almost every kid wanted to take it. I personally think anyone (teenagaer or not) that buys a car should take a course like that. steviej
  8. I'm shutting this thread down. We have been down this road before with this website. Anyone interested can search. At least this time, the website spelt "insurance" right in the address. steviej
  9. when the ABS light is on the brakes work as conventional brakes. it is possible the cable break is the cause. Did the light come at the same time the cable broke or a few days after? have it looked at by a reputable/knowledgable mechanic. other problems may include a sensor malfunciton or a pressure modulator valve failure. steviej
  10. do a search as several members have posted various procedures in the past. open the search up to cover the past year, try "program key" steviej
  11. hope for the new motor and then change your oil every 3-5k miles. If they do not offer this, then call the dealership you bought the car from and request that they pay for the replair/replacement or give a total refund of the purchase price. They sold you sludge.....literally. steviej
  12. correct, LL stands for long life. steviej
  13. ruckus2000, you had two identical posts running simultaneously with replys in both, so I merged the threads. Hence the appearence of your double post. steviej
  14. a little more information. Is it a constant rythmatic ticking or erratic and variable? does the ticking speed up when you depress the accelerator? Does it do it while driving and when just in N or P reving the motor? open the hood, can you pinpoint the ticking. Is it the fuel injectors? or does it come from down low? lastly, could it be a loose heat shield. steviej
  15. try www.car-parts.com steviej
  16. those are the numbers IronToad.com has listed next to the picture. It was from the Lexus shopping center section of there website..........go look for yourself, I posted the link. The box looks like the red and white Toyota standard packaging. get the phone number from the website and call them. steviej
  17. On my ES, I like that fact that the OEM pads are ultra quiet and very very low dust. I would stick with OEM, but I would get them from an online dealer (much cheaper). But, that is my preference. steviej
  18. done. Thank you. sj
  19. try constant applications of "liquid wrench" over the course of a week. any hardware stor will have it, but let it work over time. If doesn't work immediately. That's what we use to get rusted nuts and bolts apart. steviej
  20. just found this when I was checking out Carson Toyota's updated l-tunedparts website. l-tunedparts.com steviej
  21. the originating dealer can always plead no knowledge. However, If it is sludge, it didn't happen overnight. There should be some sort of warranty (30 day, 90 day, etc). You could call and ask them without giving up details. Pretend you are an interested customer and you are just curious. As for the Toyota dealer that has the car, give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see what happens on Monday. good luck. steviej
  22. maybe they meant your particular rotors, in that case replacement would be in order. Ask them for their measurements and the accepatable specs for the 99 RX. In general, Lexus rotos can be cut just like anyone else. steviej
  23. one way to find out is to pull the front valve cover and see what it looks like. you will see the sludge if present and you might be able to get an idea of the valve seals. steviej
  24. not to mention a much longer wheelbase which will add to the smooooth ride. steviej
  25. ditto, the fan problem has been widely discussed as well as oil leaks from the main seals as well as the ever popular valve cover. A search would do you well, word of note: open the search to encompass over a year. steviej
