  1. svarog basically stated, the O2 sensor detects the amount of air in relation to unburned fuel. This ratio is signalled back to the ECU so that proper settings can be made by the computer for fuel and air delivery to a particular group of cylinders. Cars used to have 1 located just in the exhaust in front of the catalytic converter, and they were replaceable for about $30. As emmisions became more and more stringent, emerging emissions technology requied better control and more thorough monitoring. O2 sensors found there way to each set of cylinders and even after the cat. do a google search on oxygen sensors to get a better description. whiskey try jacking up the front of the car. If I remeber correctly, the O2 sensor for the Bank 1 Sensor 1 can be reached from underneath the car. I may be completely wrong, but I think I remember seeing one on the rear exhaust pipe last time I was under there. Mind you, I may have the post cat sensor in mind. The one by the grille is Bank 2 Sensor 1. steviej
  2. here is a thought maybe check the fuse, it may be loose. All you need is a disrupt in the current and it might be losing the homelink memory. Find the fuse and see if that is loose. My homelink is hooked through the DOME fuse (#34). I won't see any disrupt while driving because this fuse controls all the courtesy lights which are off when the car is in motion. steviej
  3. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold that is between the engine and the firewall. (already had to do mine.....under warranty) steviej

  13. There is a good sized Lexus meet in preparation for the NorthEast Region. Here are the details copied from ClubLexus. DATE & TIME: Sunday, October 3rd, 2004. Meet @ 11AM. Rain date undecided. LOCATION:Ross Dock Park, located in Fort Lee, NJ. Right along the NY/NJ border, and just a stone's throw away from the George Washington Bridge (I-95). Parking fee per car = $5. Try to make every effort to arrive early at 11AM so that we get good parking spots (parking can get filled up early, and we can hold spots for you guys). From Routes 4, 46, I-80, I-95: Take the exit for Fort Lee / Palisades Interstate Parkway. Continue straight on Bridge Plaza South past several traffic lights. At the last light ("T" intersection), turn right onto Bigler St. At the stop sign, turn left (east) onto Main St., then keep in the right lane to bear right (south) at River Road. The southern park entrance will be on the left. Follow Henry Hudson Drive about one mile to the Ross Dock circle and follow signs. From the Palisades Interstate Parkway (southbound): Take the last exit before the George Washington Bridge (Hudson Terrace). Turn left onto Hudson Terrace.   14. I wasn't aware these three items were factory installed options. The XM I will concede because of the LS/ES installations lately. Are the LCD screens in the headrests or flipdowns. Even though it is a 2004, how many miles are on it? I ask because, my 2002 was bought in 2002 and toted as new by the dealer, the bank and my insurance company but it had 10,500 miles on it. I can't help but wonder if the questioned extras are aftermarket add ons, but hey, if the dealer is covering them under the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty then I would say that you got a good deal. steviej
  15. I am merging this and the thread you posted with the pics to make it easier. I am with SW, it will most likely be totalled if the value of the car is less than the total of the repair. the red fluid is most likely Toyota Long Life Coolant. (it is red too. steviej
  16. have you checked your exhaust? Open the hood and see if the noise is really loud in the engine bay. Have someone rev the motor while you are looking. Put you hand over the end of the tail pipe and see if it feels like there is any air coming out. If not, it is most likely coming out of a leak or hole in the exhaust somewhere. Take it to Midas for a free estimate. steviej

  19. how dirty in the idle air control valve and the throttle body. These are easily cleaned in the driveway. Several members can share their experiences with step by steps. If you do this, check the air tube from the air box to the throttle body. Make sure there are no cracks or holes in the accordian tubing. This tubing gets old, dry and brittle. Holes and cracks will mess up the signals the MAF sensor is sending to the ECU. It may also be a lazy or sluggish throttle position sensor. Clean or check that out. I have to ask, before I go any further. Your description hints that this is more engine than tranny. Is the car shifting alright? When you say the car gets going, do you mean the whole car in motion or the engine rpms rise to where they should be. Follow where I'm going with this? steviej
  20. color codes should be on a plaque on the left door jam. If that is worn and unreadable, then register your car on www.lexus.com under the owners section. It will bring up the factory colors of your car. PS, you can request free owners manuals (both of them) too. steviej
  21. the O2 sensor is actually cheap to about right. but, (there is always a but) why on earth does he need to remove the rear seat. The O2 sensors aren't back there. They are under the car, in the exhaust after the cat. At least on all the cars I have worked on. Maybe an IS owner that has replace the rear O2 sensor has some words of wisdom. Unless there is a fuel pump problem and they need to access the tank???? steviej
  22. the ABS problem does sound like a sensor is messed up. It may be the shop damaged the hub during the installation of the CV. You should have gone right back in the shop when the light came on. The longer you wait, the longer the shop that may have done the damage has to say it wasn't them. So move on this if you want them to pay for a new one. The brakes, (ps, i corrected the spelling in the title). The squealing can come from aftermarket metalic pads, it can come from lack of "brake quiet" (special lube used on the back of the pads, the shims and the slides during installation), and it can be caused by improper installation. Stick with Toyota OEM pads and they won't squeal. The uneven brake pad wear could be due to improper caliper pressure. Either the caliper is sticking or seized. Maybe the missing bolt head had the caliper at an angle causing the pad to wear out quicker. What caused the missing bolt head? Was it sheared off by an air wrench? Is the caliper bolt crossthreaded? It didn't just fall off. steviej

  25. is the servicing dealership the same dealership you bought the car from? I think I missed that point somewhere. If it is, then find out what kind of warranty they offered on the sale? If it is not, then have you discussed this with the dealeship you bought the car from? Stay on top of corporate and the dealership that your car is at. steviej
