  1. I have seen several nice looking and awesome sounding turbos adapted to SC's, GS's and IS's. I will see what I can did up and hopefully some member will chime in with their knowledge. in the meantime, try searching the SC, GS and IS forums for "turbo", open the search up to encompass the past year. steviej
  2. in 2005, you would stand a better chance at getting a price reduction on the 2005 than on an order for a 2006. Even more so you would get a great deal on a 2004 as they will be trying really hard to lose these from the lot. Is there much change from 2004 to 2005....I didn't think there was. steviej
  3. I would just replace the entire unit. But that is the type of guy I am. steviej
  4. are you cleaning it to just clean it or did something make it very dirty. Can you find out what cloth it is made of? Look into some high end canvas boat top cleaners. Try www.westmarine.com or www.boatus.com On the other hand a dilute solution of simple green may be all you need. steviej
  5. wow! this is kinda like deja vu. steviej
  6. take bartkat's advice and shop/research the net. what is your timeframe for need? Can you wait until December? Lexus usually has the December to Remember program. You might find a good deal there. Also, if you wait until early 2005 when hints of the 2006 model are leaked, you will see the 2005 prices come down. steviej
  7. did the other guy stop? insurance? good luck. steviej
  8. who says Lexus rotors can't be cut. Of course they can be cut, as long as the starting rotor has enough thickness to remain within specs after the cut. Most places opt to just go with new as the only option because it is quicker and easier. I just had all four of my rotors cut about 6 months ago. steviej check out www.lexus-parts.com or www.irontoad.com for good pricing.
  9. sounds like your idle air control valve is very dirty and/or sluggish. search on IDLE VAVLE or something of that sort. There was a post of how to clean it if you are mechanically incline. Widen the search to do 365 days and newer. This is a common problem with this engine. steviej
  10. I am moving this to the audio forum for more viewing. steviej
  11. belts are rubber and exposed to extreme varitations in heat. They will also stretch over time and loosen up. If the car does not have automatic tensioners, then their tightness should be checked at least yearly or if they start to chirp (especially on startup). The 1MZ-FE engine does not have automatic tensioners. If tightening does not quiet them, then replace them. They are reasonably cheap and can be done in the driveway if you know what to do. The PS belt is easily accessed from the right wheel well. I routinely replace the belts at 45k miles. A word of note, engine degreasers and detergents will also shorten belt life. These will tend to dry out the rubber and then the belt is prone to cracking. steviej
  12. that is the model of your car not the number of the part you asking for help on. if the dealer quoted you a price of over $200 then they must know what piece you are asking about. What is the item number/catalog number/part number of the trim piece that you are looking for? steviej
  13. I found on my ES it was easy to jack up and support the front end, remove the splash guard and go up from the bottom. When I changed out the bulbs for my ES fogs, the mounting hardware for the fog light itself was right there. The IS may be similar. steviej
  14. why would you not stick with OEM. Are you not satisfied with them? steviej
  15. because the battery was removed, there may be an alarm/security reset code that has to be entered to reset the security system? I have heard of this on other models. I could not tell you what the code it for your car. Call your dealership and see what they say. steviej
  16. www.irontoad.com lists the part numbers for a 2002 RX300 as front brake pads: #Code: 04465-48120 Price: $70.00 read brake pads: #Code: 04466-33050 Price: $45.00 here is the link to IronToad. I hope this helps you. steviej
  17. are we a bunch of skeptics or what???!!!! glass is fully covered with no deductable on my policy. As a matter of fact in MA you are allowed up to 1 free windshield each year. I need only make a phone call and tell them where I am going or the place I choose will make the call. No inspector was needed for this one, at least while I was there. He may come look at the removed windshield, I don't know about that since I am done and gone by then. yes it was totally replaced with OEM. I saw the new one on the cradle when I pulled in the garage and I saw the old one when I pulled out. The new windshield even comes with a new top trim piece to make it look so so so good and professional. The new one says Lexus on it, but I was told it is made by a company called Pinkerton or Plinkerton. I believe this company make most of the auto glass in the US. sk, I don't understand you second question. What waves from a side profile? As for repairing the chip, it would be sanded in a circular area around the chip and that circle would be slightly blurry when complete. Like SW03ES said, you can tell. The inspection sticker is exactly that, a replacement sticker. BUT, it expires this month anyway. I was informed of this at the window place. I told them first things first, may not get the new sticker without fixing the windshield, so I fix the windshield first then go get the sticker. steviej PS, SW03ES, call your service manager and find out who they outsource to and go there. I was very fearful/anxious/nervous too. In the end, all for no reason. It has been non stop raining here (thank you Frances) and not a bit of leaking and the wiper senor works fine.
  18. if the dealer is quoting you 200+ then the part number is known. post that part number and we might be able to help better. steviej
  19. when the tach went to 7-8k did your daughter say whether or not the engine sound like it was going to explode? What I'm saying is was the engine actually reving that high? Did she just go through a puddle or was it raining? Your thought process on the VSS is same as mine as well as the connections. Being almost 10 years old, I would clean all the ground connections that I could find and reconnect with a little dielectric compound. Just a thought, any codes in memory. The CEL may have been canceled when she the car off and you went back and turned it on. Did she mention a CEL. Have it scanned to see if any are in memory. steviej
  20. your are probably safe with the oil especially if the car was mostly long highway trips for the 8k but I would not make a habit of this whatsoever. keep a good coat of wax and sealer on the car and that should save the surface. If the belts need dressing, it is time to change out the belts. They squeal because they are dried out, cracked, loose or all of the above. DO NOT spray any lube on the rotor surface or the surface of the pads. This will greatly decrease brake effectiveness and can be dangerous. There may be some light grinding of the brakes when light pressure is applied on first application after rain. This is the removal of what surface oxidation has formed due to the moist air. The whole brake squeal issue has been covered many times so try a search on "brake squeal", expand the time to 365 days and newer. There are many reasons and conditions in which brake squeal is heard. steviej
  21. Last week I caught a rock dead square on the windshield, down low though. Had a nice sized round chip with a 1/4" crack. Called my service manager to find out who they outsource their glass replacements to. Turns out it is 20 minutes from my house. Brought it there at 8am this morning. Had breakfast at this awesome country kitchen restaurant next door and by 9am it was done. You wouldn't even know it was replaced. They do all the glass for my dealership so my windshield was in their stock. Mirror, rain sensor and inspection sticker didn't even look like they were moved. Total cost for windshield, 2eggs scrambled, 2 french toast, 2 sausage coffee, OJ and tip = $12.00. Life is good. B) steviej
  22. sorry bartkat, I took it for granted that the text in the thread title kinda covered it. I did not comment on the mesh cause I have no feelings on it. I do like the grille work with the L in it though. steviej
  23. I totally refuse to place a frame advertising a dealership unless they agree to pay me for the advertising space. I opted for the chrome LEXUS (very subtle) frame from my Lexus parts guy. check it out. steviej
