  1. Have you checked for codes? You'd need a code reader to do that or you may be able to have an auto parts store check for you. Dealerships and some independent shops typically have a tool to cycle brake control modules. I stopped self-bleeding my brakes when the process required such tools (even in 2001 for my Corvette).
  2. Checking a battery typically requires performing a load test on it after it had been fully charged. The battery tester display in your photo shows that the battery rated CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) is 450, yet the tester appeared to measure only 326 CCAs. The display also has "Good - Recharge" on it. To me that indicates that the battery is good but may need a recharge. Did he check the battery cells to make sure they are fully filled with distilled water? Low levels could cause issues. Anthony, I doubt that a 4-5 year-old starter is bad because when they jumped the battery, it started the engine. The technician probably checked the cable connectors for tightness. I believe Autozone will not charge you for checking the battery. They may put it on a charger to make sure it is fully charged. Hopefully your trip's distance to the dealership was enough to charge the battery fully. But if the dealership did not check the cells liquid levels, you should ask the Autozone person to do it.
  3. You may want to check with the dealership about their Customer Support Program which may cover replacement of your airbag.
  4. How do you know the battery is good? The first thing I would do is charge the battery to full charge. Jump starting it is good if you want to drive the car home but the best thing to do after that is to use the battery charger until the green light illuminates. Then you can measure voltage at the battery while engine is running. It should be 13-5 - 14 volts DC. This will tell you if the alternator is supplying enough juice to the battery. My guess is that your alternator is fine, given that it is only 5 years old.
  5. Ah, I had a feeling that Lexus would not allow the oil to be low like that. But to answer your question about the warning light: My experience has been that in older vehicles, an oil warning light wouldn't illuminate until there was just a couple of quarts in the pan. Sometimes by the time an oil "pressure" light illuminated, the valves were ticking. So I would never wait until any oil light illuminated before checking the oil unless the filter were loose and most of the oil had already left the engine. In that case, shut the engine down, immediately and investigate any obvious issues.
  6. You can find used ones on ebay. 2002-2005 GS300 Lexus Mark Levinson Sound Amplifier Amp OEM | eBay
  7. My guess is that it was low from the dealership before you purchased it. I would think that using 2 quarts in 5 months is not normal unless you have an American or German vehicle. Even then that's quite a bit. How does your tailpipe look on the inside? It should be fairly clean.
  8. You bought the vehicle that way? I think I would've walked away from that one. If pulling the fuses disconnects the ECU connection, that may indicate that the ECU board is dead.
  9. You must have a lift. 😏 I used to do my own mods without a lift when I was younger but now I limit myself to oil and transmission fluid changes from underneath. My MX5 has a CAI setup but I can change its filter from the front.
  10. Great! Thanks for sharing. It could come in handy for other members.👍
  11. Our vehicle was made in 2005 and has approx. 133,000 miles on it. The only gaskets that have needed replacing were the valve cover gaskets.
  12. Jeremy, is the key in the video specific for this function or is it the ignition key as well? Is there an external keyhole at the trunk location?
  13. Typically, whatever needs to be removed should, if necessary, be replaced. I believe the water pump, belts, and hoses are commonly replaced at the time of a timing belt swap.
  14. So there is no switch to unlock the trunk? I never heard of using a key in the dash to perform that function. Normally the ignition key would be able to unlock the trunk. At least that's how I remember it from many years ago. If you have to, you can get a locksmith to make you a key for the trunk.
  15. I just recently bought a key fob cover and easily swapped over the damaged one's internals. However, the original owner of my MX5 attempted to get a second fob to work and had no luck, The dealership told him that the aftermarket fob could not be programmed. It looks like the one you have is OEM so you should be able to get it working with the right tool.
  16. Hello, Chad. From which vendor/company did you buy the new fob?
  17. Do you know if your 2006 tank is the same as one in a 2005 model year? 05 2005 Lexus RX330 Expansion Tank - Cooling System - Dorman, Front - PartsGeek
  18. I believe Continental, Gates, and Dayco are good brands for timing belts. Each is in the $20-$22 range. I'm less certain about water pumps but I see that GMB ($51) states theirs is an exact OE replacement. The most expensive on the list is Aisin at $101. Source: www.rockauto.com
  19. Is the AFS light in the dash flashing? If it is, this type of sensor may be the problem. Is it the type (different car shown but the speaker says most are similar.) that is supposedly not available?
  20. There may be something else (of which I am unaware) that is adversely affected by a tire diameter difference that is that large. And as a general rule, whenever you increase the aspect ratio of a tire, steering response is not as "sharp".
  21. The San Andreas fault is not that far away but we very rarely feel any quakes. It carves our state in two. San Diego, Los Angeles and Big Sur are on the Pacific Plate. San Francisco, Sacramento and the Sierra Nevada are on the North American Plate. The two plates crisscross with dozens of active and passive earthquake faults. Sometimes you can feel a slight tremor while on the second floor (or higher) but not on the first floor. Every one of our cars has a battery jumper cable and a tire jack.
  22. I once had a similar warning so I checked the battery and found one cell's water level lower than the others. So I added distilled water, charged the battery and never saw the message again. That was 4 years ago. The maintenance required light is typically set to come on, 5000 miles after the last oil change.
  23. ...talk about waiting until the last minute!😏
  24. Good thoughts, Les! I do find it hard to believe the dealership that said wind noise is a "known issue". Lexus would never release a vehicle like that. But a different dealership may say otherwise and spend some time to determine the cause of the leak. I once rented an Audi via Turo in which the owner had installed a video camera. I would've felt uncomfortable driving with my wife and having our conversations recorded so I taped over the microphone. Of all the vehicles I have rented, that was only one with the video cam. Thankfully, the 204 MPH-capable McLaren did not. 😏
  25. I certainly understand your concern. One year before I started working at a normal job, the great blizzard of '78 hit Connecticut and surrounding states. Many people were left stranded as they attempted to drive home from work. I was going to college at the time so I did not have to drive anywhere. Shortly after that, my future employer, Uniroyal World Headquarters crafted a plan whereas employees would be sent home upon a weather advisory that forecast heavy snow. During my first year of employment, a snowstorm was found to be heading our way so we were all told to go home, just after noon. While driving my 1973 Mazda RX3 on the highway, I attempted to change lanes at 70 MPH (Hey, I was very young at the time!) when my car started spinning - right on down an embankment. I had to wait quite a while for a tow truck to pull my car out. Luckily I had plenty of fuel in the tank. Today I worry far less, as it doesn't snow in most areas of Southern California. 😏
