  1. If you're talking about a hybrid disc, simply remove the original dvd and insert the hybrid dvd. If it was made correctly, it should automatically do its thing. However, I would make sure the disc was good before putting it in as I have read from other forum members that have "bricked" their nav units from bad hybrids. I haven't read anything before about a hybrid 7.1 out so please keep us informed.
  2. x2. Most like the dealer hands off their body shop work to a local place. Find out from your dealer who they use and go straight to the source.
  3. Your best bet IMO would be to contact Lexus Customer Care and see if they can work something out with you. Explain the situation like you did on the board here, and see if they're willing to work on this gratis for customer appreciation, or if you can get them to cover just parts or just labor. If the dealer has it on record that the previous owner did bring in the car for the same reason (light was flashing) but they couldn't find anything wrong, that will bolster your case, but it all depends on how they want to take care of it. Remember, try to present the case where you, a loyal Lexus owner, was wondering if they could do something they don't HAVE to do, but rather would WANT to do for one of their customers. Sounds like they just reset the warning and it went away from the info you got from the previous owner.
  4. So the 5.1 map data was collected about 3 years ago, and in a busy metropolitan place like LA, there are bound to have been MANY changes that are included with the new 7.1 disc. The 7.1 will have the latest roads and POI's available.
  5. What do you mean by "with lockout"? What disc version is currently installed?
  6. A bigger oiler filter increases the the coil capacity of the entire system and would thus have more oil to lubricate and to cool. Don't know if it would make much of a difference in a non-turbo engine as I don't think coking oil is a big concern in Lexus cars. And you can use google to search for small word terms on any website. Just add the term "site"www.website.com" to your terms. So in this example, you would enter: oil filter site:http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/ into the search area. Google is pretty good at searching, wouldn't you agree ^_^
  7. You might want to pull the fuse for the actual navigation unit and hopefully be able to reset the device.
  8. If you are talking about the override menu to allow you to enter destinations while driving, that feature has been disabled with the 6.1 and 7.1 release of the navigation dvd. So you cannot enter an address while driving the car with the OEM 7.1 disc. If you are having problems entering an address while stopped, that sounds like a bigger problem.
  9. It really depends on the number of new roads / POI's in your area. If I lived in an area that had a bunch of new development and new roads, I would want the latest disc with the latest map data and wouldn't mind losing out on the override feature. But if there wasn't really much new around the areas I drove, I would probably keep the same disc that I had. Hope that helps!
  10. WTF 20-30mph in REVERSE? That's why I cringe at the thought of these attendant hotshots from parking the car. They always screech the tires moving the cars and don't give a *BLEEP* since it's not their car. What exactly is the insurance company fighting you about? Their insured (the parking attendant) damaged your car. Case closed.
  11. Yup. Burn it slowly and onto quality media. If you want to upgrade to the latest dvd (7.1) if you don't have it already, let me know. Send me a pm or email to discquestions AT gmail DOT com
  12. Are you sure the dealership is the one who caused the damage? Most of the time people are more acute of "changes" in the car after dropping it off for service when in actuality they were always there (like noises, scratches, dings, etc) but only notice it after receiving the car as they are more aware of the car again. Not saying that this is the case in your scenario, but I would think the metal attachments on the back of jeans (if you wear them in your car) could have caused those tears. Good luck.
  13. You should definitely compare apples to apples and see what's included in a timing belt replacement at the Lexus dealership vs Toyota dealerships. As for the actual parts used, Toyota parts = Lexus parts as they have the same OE suppliers. Just make sure what's included for the price as you will most likely want to replace secondary belts, coolant, water pump, etc.
  14. The $2300 does sound a bit steep being that they took your original AL OEM wheels also. That price would be "fair" if they had sold you the wheels outright and you had kept the original wheels. They will make another approx $1k on the OEM aluminum wheels. Not much you can do after the sale, except doing what your doing and asking for their mercy! Good luck. Hope you can something out of it! Maybe if not a cash refund, perhaps you can work out some free maintenance in it.
  15. Sorry, not much of a shock that dealerships carry a HIGH premium on any accessory they sell. They're in the business to make the most amount of money they can!
  16. Sewell Lexus has good prices for OEM parts. They sell on ebay frequently and are sponsors of Lexus forums. They have a website: www.lexus-parts.com Club Lexus global 15% discount code – through 4/01/2008 – Promo Code “ClubLexus”
  17. The catalytic converter is covered by the longer emissions warranty, so if you might want to look into it as it lasts longer than the B2B.
  18. All fixes if they do not include a switch will prevent the navigation unit from receiving the speed data, so the navigation will think that you are not moving and will allow you to enter data. However, because the navigation unit is not receiving that speed data, it must solely rely on the gps satellites for your current location, and since there is a delay in getting that data (long distance to the satellite), the nav will not update properly until you have stopped using the hack and then wait a minute or two for the nav to get the speed data again.
  19. Hi Les, Yes, you are correct and have a Generation 4 navigation unit. The upgrade procedure if very simple and basically consists of removing the old DVD and installing the new DVD, and then waiting as it updates the software on the navigation unit. Unfortunately, the only disc to contain Hawaii information is the Generation 5 7.1 navigation disc and hard drive based navigation units.
  20. I have the latest 7.1 DVD navigation disc for Generation 2 and Generation 3 Lexus navigation. Please private message me or send me an email if you're interested. I test all my discs before shipping and offer a refund/exchange should there ever be a problem. I have the latest 7.1 DVD navigation disc for Generation 4 Lexus navigation. Here is a thread listing which Lexus car is which Generation navigation: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...c=45706&hl=
  21. Definitely check to see first if the correct region is selected. Though there is one DVD which contains all the map data, the US is broken up into different regions. Though you can navigate through the entire US with only one region selected, it will only know the majors roads in the areas outside of that region, and hence may not show your exact street and town. If you have selected the correct region (like mid-South or South-East) and you still cannot find your street address, the DVD may be too old and may not contain your house if it has been recently built. Since the car is from 2002, I would imagine the map data to be from 2001 or earlier. Your best bet then would be the buy the update DVD. Sent you a PM.
  22. Check your tire pressure and then if the problem is still persistent, go get an alignment.
  23. I think the look has more to do with the higher resolution screen that with the new navigation disc software.
  24. An Aux port is simply a jack to allow an input. You cannot control any device through an AUX port. You can control the volume.
