  1. I have a 90 LS400 without the chrome wheels and never had a problem..then, I purchased a set of used chrome wheels and when I had them installed the mechanic told me that sooner or later the rims would develop rust spots inside and air will start leaking.......sure enough about 2 years later one of the tires started to loose air....I went back to him and what he had warned me about turned out to be true. He sanded down the inside of the rim put the tire back on and no problems since.....it happened to a different tire later but at that point I had the rest of the 3 rims sanded down. He only charged me about $20 the first time and $50 for the rest of the rims.
  2. Car had a pioneer system this is the amp located on the back of the rear seat under the covering and supplies power to the subwoofer only I'm interested in hearing about the new sound system installed in your car....care to share some information for us? How much do you want for your amp?
  3. HERE ARE SOME LINKS TO THE ITEM YOU WANT...FROM EBAY! THE FIRST LINK IS FOR AN OEM PART FROM A JUNKED CAR...THE SECOND LINK IS FOR AN NEW (AFTERMARKET) EMBLEM....THE SECOND OPTION IS THE ONE I USED FOR MY 1990 LS400 AND IT LOOKS GREAT....COMES WITH DOUBLE SIDED TAPE. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/91-92-93-94-95-LEXUS-LS-400-LS400-TRUNK-EMBLEM-OEM_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2559132b5cQQitemZ160408218460QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LEXUS-LS400-CHROME-TRUNK-EMBLEM-90-91-92-93-94-95-96-00_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2a060b6ca7QQitemZ180490038439QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  4. could you post the link for the foto tutorial you did?
  5. Here's the linnk on how to do spark plugs and wires on a 1990-1994 LS400.....perhaps it could help you figure out what to do on your 96' http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/ignition/sparkplugs.html
  6. Here's the schematic diagram for the 1990 LS400.....look in the site and you may find the info you need for your 95. http://www.lextreme.com/Lexradio.pdf
  7. Do you think you could learn to type a little? And maybe cut out the entire crying episode about stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread? No one really cares about your TV or DVD player. RDM _ C'mon man....this is not the time to be mean. We are a community here and experessing how one feels is allowed regardless of weather or not it pertains to a spicific problem. Nobody has perfect grammar nor sentence structure, so please, if you are not going to help, perhaps you should think about keeping your negative comments to yourself. As for the problem at hand, I would suggest replacing the head unit and cd changer. I have had a Kenwood DVD player and cd changer in my 90' LS400 for over 3 years now and never had a problem. I have owned many cars, tried different brand of radios and I have found Kenwood head units to be one of the best and that is always what I recommend to my friends.
  8. My guest will be that the power steering fluid is leaking onto the alternator......just like it happens often on many LS400 - first generation- I know that's what it was happening in my 90 LS400 and what I did was add Lucas Transmission Fluid Stop Leak to the Power Steering Reservoir and that seemed to stop the leak for now.
  9. ADD FLUID TO THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT! Exactly my sentiments but being a Brit I have to be polite :D GREETINGS FROM THE UNITED STATES!!....I SEE YOU HAVE GREAT TASTE IN CARS! HA HA HA!
  10. ADD FLUID TO THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT!
  11. 1- it all depends on the how powerful the new amp is! if is has more power than the stock amp the yes! it will sound louder. if you just want more power.....you can just replace (or bypass) the stock amp and keep the same head unit. 2- I own a 1990 LS400, I replaced the head unit and I am very happy with the sound. The new HU works very well with the stock amp and never had any problems. At first, I too, thought of amp replacement, but after replacing the HU I felt the amp replacement was not necessary. However, I would suggest just replacing the head unit....if, and only if, YOU feel that there is distortion then....yes! you can run wires from the NEW HU...back to the trunk of you car and bypass the stock amp so that you will be powering your speakers with the built-in amp of your HU. If you do decide to bypass the stock amp let me know and I'll send you a diagram with the wire color/location for the stock amp.
  12. YOU A QUICK NOTE: IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON REPLACING THE SPAKERS AND AMP LATER ON....I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TRY TO DO STEREO INSTALL YOURSELF. ALL YOU NEED IS THE PROPER WIRE HARNESS AND AN INSTALLATION KIT THAT YOU CAN BUY ALMOST ANYWHERE. AN INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL CAN BE FOUND BY SEARCHING THIS SITE. BY BUYING THE PARTS YOU NEED AND DOING THE INSTALL YOURSELF YOU WILL BE SAVING AT LEAST $100 OR MORE. BUT THEN AGAIN, IF MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE AND YOU DON'T FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO DO IT.....THEN, GET IT INSTALL SOMEWHERE....BUT I THINK YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO IT! YOU WILL BE PROUD OF YOURSELF WHEN YOU SEE THE NEW RADIO AND KNOW THAT YOU DID IT YOURSELF!
  13. 1-Replacing the head unit will not really make sound that much better because the power to the speakers is still going to be coming from the same factory amp. 2-Yes! if you want to put in a new (aftermarket amp) the stock amp will have to be bypassed but it should not be hard to do if you are letting bestbuy do it. They won't have to mess around with it too much....they will just unplug it and tap into the speaker wires from there. 3-No! the stock speakers aare NOT component speakers but component speakers can be adapted to fit. GOOD LUCK! AND PLEASE KEEP US POSTED.
  14. I'm really not quite sure how much after 400k the LS400 will go but if I was you, I would definately get it fixed, specially since it still runs strong and the repairs you mentioned are not really that expensive. I mean, investing a couple of hundred dollars is really not so bad if you are happy with your car.
  15. This is a common problem on the 90-92 LS400 and more often, it requires changing the power steering pump gasket. On the LS400 failure to repair the power steering leak will eventually, also result on having to replace the alternator...since the alternator is right bellow the power steering pump and that is where the leaking fluid ends up (once again this is only on the LS400 and I am not sure how the set up is in your particular car). On my 90 LS400.....I actually tried using LUCAS Transmission Fluid Stop Leak (since on the LS400 - it is recommended to use Automatic Trasmission fluid for the power steering) and so far, it seems to have stoped the leak. I took out the ATF fluid from the power steering reservor and added a bottle of the LUCAS, trasmission fluid stop leak....that was about 6months ago and it has not leaked since.
  16. If you would still like to get some touch up paint for your car...try this website. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/choosecol...&search.y=5 I have bought paint from them before for different cars, the last paint I bought was for my 1990 LS400 and the paint always matched perfectly. You can buy it in small (nail polish like) bottles and/or in a spay can (that's the one I bought the most). Good luck

  18. As far as I know there is no separate fuse for the speakers, furthermore, if the tweeters are working, then there probably is a problem with the speaker themselves, since the tweeters are wired to the radio together with the front speakers.....meaning, if there was a wiring problem with the front speakers....the tweeters would not be working either. Are the speakers on both sides out?...it is highly unusual for both speakers to go bad at the same time....check the balance, bass and treble settings, if the bass is all the way down and the trebles is all the way up, it may sound like the bottom speakers are not working, since the tweeters will actually sound louder and are closer to your head level. If playing around with the audio settings won't help, then, I would take the speakers out.....test them, and if found defective, replace them. Let me know how it goes! HERE IS A LINK ON HOW TO REMOVE THE DOOR PANELS...SO YOU CAN TAKE OUT AND TEST THE SPEAKERS. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/body/fdoorpanel.html
  19. This wire doesn't seem to be them. Is it perhaps the Green/black wire with silver dots? I was a little foolish and threw everything back together before I tested the lights, doh! I do not want to fight with that stupid black vent again. Thanks in advance for any reply! Hi! I looked at the first posting I made and also looked at the notes I was taking as I did my install and the wire I used is definitely the green/silver dots wire. Thanks! I'll have to crunch into the mystery a little deeper then. My manual said Lexus Park lights are Negative (-). But, that can't be it, because it's positive.. lol. The search goes on! Thanks again! Hello! The first post was very very helpful. It saved me a lots of time. I was looking how to install an Aftermarket Keyless entry on my 1991 Lexux LS400 and found this post. I sues 3 wires, Green/Black, Green/Yellow for unlock/lock and for power I used the Red wire from the Door Courtesy Light ( which comes on when the door is opened ). My system is working fine. Thanks to all who contribute their works on this forum. It saves lots of time and especially money in today,s bad economic. Keep up the good work. Thanks again. Always glad to help!
  20. Phyton...the lights look great!!! I know the store on Ebay where you bought your lights and I asked about the lights fitting a 1990 LS400 (which is what I have) and they said the lights only fit 93-94 models. I know you have a 92 and......it is obvious that they fit very nicely, however, did you have to do any modifications in order to make them fit? I want to get them but I wanna make sure they will fit my 1990. yes i had to make some mods......just adapt the 9004 stock sockets to fit the 9003 which the light assemblies fit...its very easy, the light assemblies come with bulbs already, get 2 9003 sockets and hook em up to the bulbs, then adapt what u have left, u will c what im talkin about, i had to grind a little to get it to work...no biggie tho Thank a lot....I'll be ordering them soon!

  23. About the gauge jumping....Well, by doing some research I found that in some of these cars the gauges do tend to go bad once in a while, in my car (90 LS400) the gas gauge does not work right, it goes up and down all by itself and I never know exactly how much gas I have in my car, but I pretty much know how often I should put gas in my car so I never really have a problem however, it is very annoying to see the needle going up and down. Anyway, my point is this, if it is just the gauge controls that are damaged but there is nothing mechanically wrong with the car, just leave it alone - but if you really wanna get it fixed and it is just the gauge, there's a guy on e-bay that will rebuild your instrument cluster for about $175 Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Lexus-LS400...emZ230298885377 About the suspension in your car...I can't help you there because I have not replaced mine yet. About the rack and pinion leaking and possibly causing problems to the alternator.......not quite sure...but I will tell you this, in our cars, the steering fluid tends to leak and if in your car this is the case. -> The steering fluid leaks on top of the alternator and therefore, if you do not the problem fixed the alternator will eventually go bad. That is what happened to my car and I had to get the alternator replaced - I did not get the leakage problem fixed because I did not have that much money at the time. However, I am planing on get in it fixed asap! I hope this was of some help!
