  1. The stock system is Pioneer...
  2. I laughed the first time I saw it too, Nitrogen won't do you any good in your gas. Stupid marketing ploy...
  3. My dad's 04 has somewhere around 80-90k miles and the original wheel bearings... In all my time on Lexus forums I've never heard about some sort of common wheel bearing issue on the LS.
  4. Hey all... I just wanted to share an experiebnce I just had with a product. I typically don't use over the counter products, but I needed some carwash soap to try out my new foam gun and I had to pick some up on the fly and figured I'd try the turtle wax ice. I was really impressed. Its very sudsy, great for the foam gun and has good lubricity avoiding scratching. What I was most impressed with was the gloss enhancers it left behind, left the paint very slick afterwards. I rewashed the car a week later and the water really rolled right off with the leaf blower when I was blowing everything out of the crevaces. Worth a look...
  5. Ah I gotcha. If you want to try and tackle them yourself I would buy some Meguiars Scratch-X and some nice microfiber and terrycloth towels. Use the terrycloth towel to work the Scratch-X into the paint rubbing in straight lines paralell to the scratch, work it in until its almost gone and then buff of with the microfiber. Once done I'd wax the whole car, it probably needs it anyways. They may or may not require machine polishing to get out, but it sounds like they will definately come out...
  6. What you are looking for is a process, not a product. What type of scratches are we talking about, isolated scratches or is this swirling all over the whole car? For the record, Zaino is not a polish. Sal Zaino calls his Zaino sealant a "polish" but its just a marketing gimmick. A polish is something that improves the paint finish through chemical or mechanical abrasives when worked into the paint. Zaino is a polymer sealant and doesn't do anything to remove paint defects. Zaino makes polishes now, but what most people refer to as "Zaino" is Zaino Show Car polish which is not a polish. Confusing isn't it? ;) Just running out and buying a polish isn't going to do you any good, we need to have a better understanding of what the issue is and what legnths you are willing to go to to fix the issue yourself or if we should suggest you see a professional.
  7. Really? The IS300 then, not Lexus vehicles in general...
  8. Hey Johnny, Do a search for VaisTech and check out www.vaistech.com, I have their iPod adapter in my car and it works great.
  9. Way too high. I was at the Lexus dealer today, and they are selling NEW 2008s for $38k fully loaded (they have like 12) Hey Johnny, welcome!
  10. Thats the damndest thing I've ever heard... The mileage is definately stored in the instrument cluster. People have replaced their clusters with salvage ones that have different odo readings. You have to file a peice of paperwork with your DMV showing the odometer doesn't show the actual mileage...
  11. Nope, no parking sensors.
  12. Well...you've been lucky. I've had rotors warp after panic stops on vehicles that are not Lexus vehicles. The rotors would warp on my Explorer a lot, it was heavy. I drove my cousin-in-law's '05 Accord a few months ago...rotors were badly warped. I consider it an ordinary wear occurance over time. Ask some mechanics they'll tell you its common. Google warped rotors...complaints from owners of many different makes of vehicles. http://newcarbuyingguide.com/index.php/new...5318/event=view Here's an article abount brake warping on Mercedes Benz vehicles, which as you mentioned have cross drilled rotors: http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guid...or_problem.html
  13. I've had Lexus vehicles for 11 years and put hundreds of thousands of miles on them with no irregular inside tire wear...
  14. Yeah that doesn't make any sense. I bet it just needs an alignment...
  15. 60k if the rotors have experienced an extreme panic stop, been hit with cold water, or retorqued improperly I would not at all be surprised to see the rotors warp on any make of vehicle.
  16. You've posted your question in the ES forum, I will move it to the GX forum. You should PM member "dcfish", he sells inexpensive nav units...
  17. Its faster in that it would have taken you 7-10 times as long to achieve the same results by hand...if it was even possible... You can't really apply and remove a paste wax with it. The PC is a tool used to work polishes in, IMHO it doesn't add any speed to applying waxes and I've never seen the purpose of trying to remove anything with it. Paste waxes are best applied and removed by hand. Something to save you some time. Sealants are layerable to a point. You can probably put 3-4 coats of something like Klasse or Zaino on the paint before you aren't really adding layers anymore. Carnuaba waxes are not layerable. When you apply a wax over a wax layer thats already there, the wax is simply dissolving the wax that is there and replacing it.
  18. Gotta leave the key inside. If they shut it off it won't restart without the key in the car.
  19. The system automatically saves everything thats deleted into a forum we have access to in case of mistakes...nothing of yours was deleted... Weird...could it have been a server mishap? Just FYI, in the future if you have a beef with something like this...contact us directly and we will figure it out. No need to post a thread on the forum at-large. You seem to be creating this idea that the management here has it out for you which is just not the case. We don't just delete things at whim, nor have we ever given you any reason to think that we do... Nor does anyone who has any ownership interest in the site or anyone on the management or moderating teams work for Lexus or a Lexus dealer
  20. I actually don't think the chipping looks bad... Couple reasons why your Tacoma's paint has held up better 1. The IS's nose is much lower to the ground where rocks are spit up by vehicles in front of you. 2. The Tacoma's lower bumper is not painted unlike the Lexus 3. The Tacoma doesn't have the new EPA mandated low VOC paints like the IS does, they chip more easily. Try taking it to a professional detailer and have them clay, polish, and wax the vehicle. It will look a lot better. As for the wheels, they are probably aftermarket chrome. Lexus actually doesn't make chrome wheels anymore, dealers have companies that chrome the wheels aftermarket and aftermarket chromed wheels aren't very long lasting. The dealer may very well have them rechromed for you. When you wash the car, the pictures don't look like you really get in all the openings and clean them well, you need to do that because the chrome finish is very susceptible to corrosion caused by corrosive brake dust.
  21. I just want to add something. Like I said, I've done a lot of research on this and these sites are all over the Internet for all different makes and models of cars. It all comes back to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA which is an independent government sponsored agency with no ties to Toyota, Lexus, or any other car company. Their entire purpose is to make sure US vehicles are safe and meet safety standards and to investigate claims like these. They have investigated claims like these on Lexus vehicles...as well as many other marques' vehicles and have concluded that there is NO design or safety flaw and that ALL of the reported instances of unintended acceleration were the result of driver error. Which is the conclusion they have made for all of the unintented acceleration cases that came before them. The USA Today article amcmcdonald posted is from 2004 involved the 02 ES300 (basically my car). This is a quote from the article: The results of that investigation are in...driver error. The 1988 Lincoln Town Car mentioned in that article has a cable throttle which would make any claim about inintended acceleration impossible! Something has to pull the cable. To me, the results of this agency outweigh any crazy Internet conspiracy sites. You say why would these people lie? They may believe it was unintended acceleration, but honestly its human nature to defer responsibility for unpleasant things from yourself to others. Doesn't surprise me at all. My question is, why would the NHTSA lie? The only answer you could give me is some crazy conspiracy theory. In the case the OP presented, it just doesn't make sense. The throttle on these cars is electronically controlled thats true (but these complaints are out there on cars with cable throttles too), but the brakes are still the old style hydraulic system. If her foot was firm on the brake she could have held the car there rather easily even under full throttle. It sounds like she hit the gas instead of the brake to me... These cases always seem to happen when pulling into a parking space too, a common time when someone would be moving from gas to brake while hurredly preparing to get out of the car, etc.
  22. My car has 125k miles and I haven't had any excessive brake problems and I drive fairly aggresively. I don't think a rotor replacement on an 8 year old RX300 is excessive... If the pulsation was still there after the rotors were turned they weren't turned properly...
  23. I would imagine its the same... The dealers replace the headrests with units that have DVD players in the back so they would know how to remove them too...
  24. I'd look at some of the online stores, www.sewellpartsonline.com is a good one. Unfortunately mats only come in sets of 4...
  25. They broke the bolt and split the cost of replacing the tensioner with you? And thats a good deal why? In the very least the tensioner replacement should have been free since their incompetence broke the bolt.
