Because of the possibility of damaging the AWD system......read the owners manual. And why would you buy tires at the dealership?

teal, What tire size do you need? I would go with the Goodyear Triple Tred's personally over the other two you mentioned. ;)

I still would not change just one tire.....not on an AWD model.

Tell him to at least take an ES out for a test drive (high mileage or not) & see if that peaks his interest. That way if he does add the ES to his 'short list' you can maybe find one in his general price range with a little less miles. ;) What year Accord is your buddy looking at & 4 or 6 cyl? I'll see if I can send ya a comparo. ;)

They should fit without a problem, I'm just not 100% sure about the clearance in the wheel well.

I would not advise doing that. At the very least buy them in pairs, regardless of the tire you buy. I know they are expensive, but you will notice a huge improvement. Maybe buy 2 of the Michelins now & two more in the near future. Just don't have 3 of the same & 1 different.....your asking for trouble that way.

My suggestion is to replace all 4 tires panny. I hate to say it.....but the Bridgestone RE92's are horrible tires on anything but dry pavement (that's coming from quite a bit of experience with this tire). Panny, what are you looking for in a replacement high performance tire? Based on what you tell me, I can better recommend an excellent replacement. :)

The oil filter is located near the front of the engine & a little farther back is the oil pan. Might want to have a look at the 'Workshop Tutorials' (or how to guide) section of this site....I'm sure someone has created this for others to see. Thought this was a very good read... http://finance.sympatico.msn.ca/retirement...umentid=6390876 I personally will help my kid(s) find the appropriate vehicle when the time comes (including proper instruction at a professional driving school course beforehand), but it will be up to them to purchase (the Wife & I will go as far as a small loan perhaps), insure, maintain the vehicle etc. I feel they will appreciate the car (and responsibility in general) more that way when they have something to work for rather than just giving/buying the kid their own vehicle......just my 2 cents. :) Enjoy!

He has looked at a few 1997-2001 models. He is back looking at Accords again, but I hope he does not have transmission trouble if he buys one of those. I know 3 people personally who owned Accords and had complete failures before 100,000 miles. Anybody here know anything about Accord transmissions? That makes two of us.....they have had alot of problems with the tranny's in the late 90's & early 2000's. Has you friend driven both vehicles?

You'll be just fine.....done it myself. A smidge softer sidewall, but no safety concerns at all. ;)

Might want to also consider the Goodyear Triple Tred as well Michael. They won't be as quiet as the Michelin's however....but right at the top of the list for wet weather performance. www.goodyearassurance.com

What's the mileage on your ES Avi? How long roughly would you say it takes with those additional cranks to actually start up?

Exactly.....some call all season tires '3 season' or 'no season' tires. The Goodyear Triple Treds are decent in the winter weather conditions.....for an all season tire, but I had the opportunity to drive a Lexus IS250 AWD with Blizzak's & what a difference the winter rubber made.....I was floored. My only problem is, we do not have the room (nor the budget at the moment) for 2 set's of all season & winter tires for each vehicle. I'm seriously considering the Nokian WR All Weather Plus tire (50 - 60k mile tread life) for my ES 330 because we live in a snowbelt region of Ontario now. If anyone has any experience with these tires on their Lexus, I'd love to hear your feedback. :)
