It's a no brainer that it should have been included in the showdown.

The ONLY 'pet peeve' I have with my 01 ES is the location of the oil filter :chairshot: kind of seems it was an 'after thought'. My mechanic does not spend enough time cleaning up the oil oil that spills onto the sub frame so I clean it up 'properly' as it looks like you have an oil leak afterwards As soon as the car is off factory & extended warranty from Lexus, I will do my own oil changes as well as I enjoy it. :D

That's correct fnutz. Just change your oil & filter with quality 'brand name' products at the correct intervals and you should have no problems. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil with either a Mobil 1 or K & N oil filter. B) Just courious, the BG MOA oil additive products.....is there a website for these products? I'm courious what kind of 'claims' they make. B)

I agree with steviej's advice Shirley......phone your mechanic that performed this work first thing in the morning to get the ball rolling. How far is your mechanic from where you live roughly?

Flushing the power steeering fluid & PCV valve replacement is wise, in addition to replacing the timing belt. Regarding tires, H speed rated tires will not hurt the car in anyway as it is only one speed rating below 'V'. The best choices for you in the size you need are: - Toyo Proxes TPT (H or V speed rated). They have a 60,000 miles treadwear warranty with a treadwear of 400, Traction rating of A & Temperature rating of A. They are excellent in the rain (especially heavy rainfall) & very good in the snow. I have these on my 01 ES. Check out: www.toyo.com - Falken Ziex ZE-512 (H or V speed rated). Also have a 60,000 mile warranty with a traction rating of 420, Traction rating of A & Temperature rating of A. These have a slightly more aggressive tread pattern over the Toyo's & as good in the heavy rain as the Toyo's & even better snow traction. My wife has them on her 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 & they will be on my short list when I need to replace my Toyo's & are less expensive to boot! plus they have a 'rim protector' built in. B) Check out www.falkentire.com Search for you closest dealer. It's unfortunate that neither tire is available on tirerack, but if you want to see some reviews on this tire, check out www.tiretrends.com & put in the exact size you need on the right side of the screen & hit 'GO'. Click on the Falken & Toyo tires once you scroll down. The Falken would be my first choice of ALL available tires in that size & the Toyo's are a very close second & are the best overall values in an all season performance tires. I agree with both of those features you mentioned RX. They are worth their weight in gold no doubt. B) Now do you use a special oil filter or just an AC Delco filter for your Vette? No sludge build up & you still had 15% oil life after all that as well? Very impressive feature! ;)

Hey Shirley First off, no biggie about posting twice......it happens....so no worries :) Very sorry to hear about your Thanksgiving plans getting canceled because of this.....nothing more important than family. :( One of the other 'more seasoned' members will probably have more specific info to give you than me.....but I will give it a shot. I have only about 53,000 miles on my 01 ES so I have not done the timing belt, nor water pump...and obviously it's not needed yet for a fair bit of time. Having said that, I'm not 100% sure the problems are related (not to say they are not mind you), but I guess the question I have is have you serviced the transmission regularly (fluid changes at the proper intervals, clean filter mesh & the like)? The tranny might be telling you something here....& it just might be possible because of the timing of the first problem that one would suspect the two are related, when in fact it's a coincidence. Your transmission could just be in need of a 'tune up' which involves what I have mentioned above.....many ES transmissions have 'delayed' upshifts (1st gear to second gear & so forth) when their cold.....it was one of my first concerns & first postings I asked fellow members when I took bought my 01 ES back in January. I performed a complete tranny flush (which involves getting 100% of the old fluid out as opposed to just a 'drain & fill' method which only changes about 25 - 35% of the fluid.....I'll just say it made a world of difference in the shift quality (although the first to second shift is delayed still when cold & that's by design to warm the engine up quicker) but it is smoother than it was. I would contact the mechanic that performed the work first thing Monday morning to explain this to him & if you feel unsafe driving (or he is a way's drive to get to him), I would suggest to get him to send a tow truck to you (on HIS dime) first off, this will also prevent any possible 'incidents'. I assume you have the bill for all the work performed & have him go over everything with a 'fine tooth comb' again to be sure nothing was missed, no mistakes were made & everything checks out OK. I hope you can wait till then.......& I wish you the best of luck & please keep us posted on the situation. I hope it's nothing serious. Anybody else have more 'in depth' suggestions for Shirley?

Will you stick with the regular red 'long life' Toyota coolant steviej or switch to the pink 'super long life' stuff? I want to go with the pink stuff next time I'm do for a coolant change.......the product is suppose to be compatable with the red coolant......but almost all the old fluid is flushed out anyways so I don't see the problem if the pink stuff is fine for aluminum rads. B)

For sure 42 is way to hight. For some reason some people air up their tires to the max pressure listed on the sidewall. Maybe that's ok for maximum load carrying, but it's surely not for daily driving. 34 local and maybe 36PSI for long trips should be fine. ← Agreed.......I can't see one getting even wear with the pressure set at 40+ psi on light loads. However, some members have done it & still are saying that their tires are wearing evenly with no problems.....perhaps time will tell.

Are there many members that have put these on their ES? & If so, please post or PM me your pics. B) I'm also wondering how these stickers will hold up in the cold winter months up here in Canada being exposed to heavy road salt? Finally, what colour do you think would go best with the Cashmere Beige Met? :)

The cornering issue on the lower speed rating was going to be my next comment. Your right steviej, they Hydroedge is an awesome tire (my sister-in-law put them on her 2000 Ford Focus from my advice). Not many folks go the top speed the tires are rated for....this is true......the ride just might be more sloppy with more than normal 'body lean' that one might expect is all. I think in certain sizes the Hydroedge also comes in an 'S' speed rating which is down to 112 mph.

Why are you trying to 'trim weight' on your ES exactly? Fuel economy? Not sure I would suggest to take the spare out. I'd start by getting rid of anything you don't need such as any junk not related for use with the car. Many people have boxes of 'junk' that they just leave in the backseats or trunk that weigh quite a bit.....stuff like an emergency kit, jumper cables & your spare tire are things you should NOT be without especially since were going into the harsh winter months. B)

Do you have a torque wrench for when you put the wheels & tires back on the car? They have to be tightened properly & at the correct torque setting recommended by Lexus. If your not sure, contact your dealer. B) Where abouts in the U.S. are you located & are you going to put snow tires on your IS?

I'm a bit suprised that the car has Michelin Hydroedge tires on it......that is a good tire to be sure but is well below the speed ratings Lexus call's for on the ES. If you have the 205 60 16 factory spec.....it should be a "V" speed rating. THe Hydroedge is only a T speed rated tire I'm suprised both the previous owner or the actual tire shop never mentioned this. It's about 3 speed ratings below what Lexus say's it should be.

No harm, no foul.......welcome aboard!! :) 20's for a 99 might be overkill without some heavy duty modifications. As steviej suggested.....I'd consider 18's without a lot of mod's as well.

4 snow tires & a full tank of gas should help quite a bit leave the sand bags at home & leave the traction control on. If the weather is that horrendous outside & it's not an emergency, stay home. B)
