  1. I have a 98 GS300 (90,000 miles) and one of my ball joints was making this very annoying sound (like screeching) when turning the steering wheel especially in the parking lot at slow speeds. Eventually the ball joint popped out and the whole front-passenger side suspension fell to the floor bending my fender. Thank god it happened when pulling away from the gas pump rather than on the highway at 70mph. I got both lower ball joints replaced and everything seems great for now. My thoughts on this are: this happenned because my car has been lowered for the past 5 years with Eibach springs and it has had 20" wheels for at least 2 years and the ball joints just couldnt handle it and gave out. If you are having problems with the ball joints get them replaced they cost $100 each and about $100 labor/each(local mechanic). You are better off spending $400-$500 now. Then thousands later when one of them pops out and gets you into an accident or even kills you.
  2. Hey NEO, What kind of a lip is that on the bottom of the front bumper. Where did u get it and how much? Thanx
  3. This is what I did with my foglights. I bought a pair of GS430 foglights with the yellow lenses in them. I put in hyper white bulbs and it gave me a nice light yellow almost slightly greenigh tint to it. It looked awesome. They looked like the foglight color on the IS300. But after a while the yellow lense cracked and I lost the yellow in one of the fog lights. So I went back to the clear lense and just put in hyper white bulbs. The color matches the HID headlights but they are not as intense. The only thing I can think of to increase the intensity of the light is to get the clear foglights and put HIDs in them. I wouldnt recommend putting the HIDs in the yellow foglights because the yellow lenses will probably melt away. Personally I love the GS430 look with the yellow foglights and wouldnt change it if I had it.
  4. I have a black onyx GS right now. It looks great but it is a pain to maintain it. I hate silver, one reason is that there are too many of them out there. My recomendation is the crystal white exterior with tan interior... That is what I'll be looking for next .
  5. How much are you willing to pay for a 1998 GS300 w/ 90,000 miles on it in excellent condition. Please be resonable from your own experience.
  6. No, you dont have to debadge to install. There is a cutout for the oval lexus emblem in the center.
  7. I have a 3-piece Rod Millen Lip. It is larger than the previous one. It cost about $300. Here is a pic. If you want other pics from different angles, let me know.
  8. I keep my 20s at around 30 PSI (28 psi - 32 psi ). Try not to put in more than 40 psi. You will feel the difference.
  9. After you drop your car get alignment done and you are set.
  10. I agree, everytime I change my filter I get a small spill. But not much. I place a fairly large rag just under the filter so that the oil does not go all over the place and then remove it from the top. Its very easily accesible by hand. You should use a pretty big rag and fold it a few times so that if it spills on the rag it doesnt go through the rag. Use cardboard everytime to work on the car, dont want any stains on the driveway.
  11. There are a bunch of topics on this issue in the past 2 months. Go back in the topics and you will find an answer. You might need hub centering rings to eliminate the vibration.
  12. 98 gs300 140mph on a local 3-lane highway at about 11:00pm (on stock 16s, not 20's)
  13. I have clear side marker lights on my black GS. They look better than the orange and I also put in the white bulbs. I got the lights on ebay and I dont have any problems with them. If I remember correctly I paid about $30 for the pair.
  14. With 20's you definitely lose the comfort in the ride. Its a lot more bumpy and very sensitive to holes. I have 20's with a Eibach lowering springs. 2" drop. They dont rub or scrape at all. My tire size is 255/35/20. If you want to look good with nice wheels, you gatta lower the car to eliminate the wheel gaps. My advice to you is get 19's with 40 profile tires (first find out if they will fit). 35 is just not enough rubber to drive around the roads in jersey (for me). Too many holes. This is my second set of tires on these rims. If the tire didnt pop it got a bubble or something else. I always had issues.
  15. I have a set of taillights from my 98 GS300. In perfect condition. The reason why I took them off is that I replaced them with the 2001 GS taillights. If interested send me email to ppolanowski@optonline.net
  16. I can't find the receipt from the purchase and I dont remember the seller. I believe I found the seller on ebay, but I bought the parts directly from the website. Sorry I cant be of help. If I come across the info. I will let you know.
  17. I tried searching myself for toyota pads to fit my GS (ran into a small problem on a sunday afternoon and the only place that was open was Autozone, they dont carry lexus parts, only toyota, so I tried to match them up but they were totally different.) You have to get Lexus pads or aftermarket. About the cabin filter. It's in the glove box. There is a tab in the back of the glove box that opens up and you pull out the filter. It takes about 20 seconds to replace it. The filter cost is $10 at the dealer.
  18. I know what you are saying. There is a difference between the size. Because when I was going 66 mph the speedometer was showing 60 mph. That is true. However if you consider the weight, where the 20's a lot heavier than the stock 16's, and therefore the engine has to work harder on bigger wheels causing more fuel consumption. Overall, there might be a slight difference but its barely noticeable.
  19. $170 for all four rotors sounds a little cheap, but maybe the prices dropped. When I was buying mine, I figured around $60 per rotor and $40-$50 for pads. I got mine on Ebay. They were Bradi rotors and Axxis Pads. I paid about $180 for the total package for the front (2 rotors and pads). You shouldn't spend more than $200 on a package deal on Ebay. (FYI) If I recall correctly there were pretty good deals on ebay for the total package of 4 rotors and pads for like $350. ( Bradi or Brembo rotors with Axxis Pads)
  20. I got a 98 GS300 and I get about 265-275 miles on the tank. That's mostly city driving. On the highway I could probably get between 350-375 on one tank. 16 inch or 20 inch rims. It doesnt matter. It stays about the same.
  21. About the foglights. I love the GS430 look. They are great. If you want to get the correct yellow color, get the foglights from either the 01-05 GS430 or 99-00 GS400. I tried the bulbs and they just didnt give the same yellow beam. If you searched ebay you might come across the yellow lenses they sell for about $10. The look like a small yellow condom that you insert in the foglight. Dont get them. I tried them and they melted within a couple hours. The best thing to do is get the yellow foglights from another GS. They probably run about $200/pair on ebay.
  22. I changed my front rotors from stock to cross-drilled and slotted last spring. I also put on Axxis brake pads. I am very satisfied with the performance because the braking is excellent and there is a lot less wear on the pads. It has been a little over a year and I still have 50% of the pads left. The only thing you have to look at when getting cross-drilled rotors is that they have to be drilled correctly. When they drill them they have to shampher the edge and smooth it out to make sure the holes are drilled properly. Some cheap manufacturers will just drill the rotors and not clean them up later. If you decide to get the rotors, get them zinc plated too. It is only $10 more for each rotor but they dont get that rusty look after it rains.
  23. Thanx.... I just ordered my plugs today. This will make a nice saturday morning project.
  24. I am up for it as well. I live 2 blocks from there. LOL
  25. can you describe the process in a few steps.... I need to do mine as well and want to know what I am getting myself into. Do I need to take the upper intake off or will I be able to get around it?
