  1. If you have the older navi system. I think its hard drive based. It has the smaller lcd compared to the new lexus models. The new ones 2001+ with 7" LCD I believe are Mark Levinson based and use DVD disc. In my 2002 LX470 i replaced the navi DVD myself. However, the hard drive one might be a bit more complicated. For your case. I think you should take it to a dealer to get them to load the stuff.
  2. Well. The libraries around my place have repair manuals. For fords and chevy's from 10 years ago that is. The most recent car they have in the whole selection is a 1995 model or so. Im about to buy the $100 set of genuine toyota factory service manuals. But I want to see if an electronic version is available. GuyTelefunken, can you tell me where you got your service manual. I just saw another one of your posts, it seems like you have a PDF version and its very detailed. Please help me out. Thanks!
  3. Its not too difficult to install those parts yourself. However if you dont trust your own mechanical abilities then a shop should be able to do it for around $50 or so. I'm not sure on the exact amount. I'm just guessing since you have the parts already. My previous car, I got the brake pads changed and rotors machined for $150 that included labor and parts. So factoring in that parts usually cost around $100 for this kind of job, you can expect to pay around $50 for labor.
  4. Have you tried ebay? Or go check a local junkyard. They might have a gs300 in there somewhere and you can go rip out your own dash for around $20-50 :)
  5. I am starting to do some more extensive work on my 2005 GS300 and I need a service manual to help out on disassembly and such. I spotted the GS300/430 printed(2books) service manuals on ebay for about $100. And I have also seen these so called "service CD's" that sell for $15 or so. However, I bought one for my Toyota two years back and the CD was a freaking piece. It had about 100 diagrams total and only basic items were covered. Nothing in depth. I noticed from this post http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=22010 about the headlights. GuyTelefunken posted a photo from the service manual of some sort. It looks like it is a digital version and not from a book because I dont see any fuzziness or discoloration from scanning. Does anyone know where I can download or purchase a PDF or a digital format of the GS300/430 service manual? I rather have a digital version than a printed book.
  6. Heres the price list off the top of my head: Extra set of Lexus GS300 2003 housings. $200 + 25ship on ebay (optional but I got because I didnt want to cut into original stock housings) Entire headlight set from 2004 BMW M3 included TWO of bi-xenon projectors, m3 headlight housings, ignitors, ballasts, all wiring harnesses. $300+25ship on ebay Screws, bolts, silicon sealant, epoxy, and other bits about $30 Total spent on project so far is around $580. Thanks flufferious, at least one other person with a GS has some interest in my retrofit Some of you may say that the stock HID option was $500 and much less work and has auto leveling. All good points, but the stock HID is not bi-xenon and has a fuzzy cutoff line compared to projectors. :D Anyways, I'll finish up the other housing sometime this week and have the guide posted up by the weekend.
  7. LexKid630 Damn....you got enough cars? LOL I was checking out your signature.
  8. Ok, I finished :D Since i bought a used set of housings from a 2003 GS300 they had a pretty good dosage of rocks and road debris. I still have to sand/polish/buff the front lens so its smooth and wont scatter the light as much. Other than that, the retrofit has come along nicely. This forum seems pretty slow, 1 day and only 1 reply <_< I'm starting the left headlight retrofit in a day or two. If anyone wants me to do pix/guide I will. Otherwise i will just post pix of finished product. Here is the right side headlamp converted to HID :P Front Shot Front angle 2 Projector closeup Projector powered on Beam pattern/cutoff line :D
  9. I got a 2005 GS300 about a month ago. It was the last one on the lot so I didn't really have the pick of any other options. The car came with stock halogen housings which weren't bad at all. Considering it was a halogen housing. Anyways, I wanted better so..... Ahh, finally after a month of planning and five hours of work. I present Le Prototype :D Entire unit Different angle of unit Close up of projector Powered on projector Angle 2 Powered on Projector from a 2004 BMW M3 Bi-Xenon. I purchased a second set of housings becuase I didn't wana cut into the stock housings. Yes, I know the high beam reflector isnt in there and front lens is not on and the projector lens is dirty....hence the name Le Prototype :) This is the right side headlight. I still need to finish the left side light. If anyone else is thinking of doing this, I can post a step by step guide on retrofitting the halogen GS housings. :D What do you guys think about the project so far?
  10. Well, I already bought a extra set of 05' headlights green tinted housing which are sitting here getting prepped for a retrofit. I wasn't about to cut into the original housing. :D Ok, so the bumper has to come off. Has anoyone done this before or have a detailed description of how its to be done? Or if one of you has the service manual could you kindly scan a few pages? :)
  11. Just do a search. Here are the basics: Remove back seats, pull out rear deck, unbolt sub, pull off wires, take out sub. For specifics on how just do a search. GS300 remove sub. I'm sure plenty of HOW-TO's will be available. Good luck!
  12. Do you absolutely want the stock navigation system? If not why dont you consider aftermarket options? Alpines are great however many people dislike the flipout screens. If you fall under that category then you might be interested in one of the new kenwood ones (not sure of model) but it is a double din. When you start the car it flips out backwards and sits flush against the dash. When car is off it flips back around so it looks like there's no screen(less chance of theft). I dont want to sound like a salesperson promoting all these aftermarket items. However the sound quality on the alpine's is definately better compared to the stock lexus one. I can attest to this because none of my cars have the stock audio systems in them. Every car has an upgraded system of some sort. I just got my new GS300 two weeks ago and already I'm planning to pull out the entire sound sysetm and replace it with aftermarket parts. I am also replacing the headunit with a car computer for this car with a custom 8" touchscreen lcd mounted in the dash. Going aftermarket will be much easier since you just plug the headunit in and you're good to go. It is probably a cheaper way to go than sourcing a stock navi and custom work to install/wire it in. Everyone has their tastes though. Enough babbling though, this is only if you are interested in aftermarket options. :D
  13. Hello, I have a 2005 GS300 I picked up two weeks ago that has the halogen headlights. I am going to do a Bi-Xenon M3 HID projector retrofit on this car. I have searched around the forums and have not had much luck on how to get the front headlights out. Im pretty sure on this car the front bumper needs to be removed. I hope its not necessary since its a lot more work, but I do think its required. Can someone give me a step by step or at least a general guide on how to get the two front headlights out of the car. I have seen sellers selling GS300/430 headlight housings on ebay with several broken tabs. I'm sure its because they just forced/pulled out the housing without taking off the bumper. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
