  1. I dont think you can physically steal the IS x50 (unless someone tows it) ... if someone breaks into the IS, the engine immobilzer activates, meaning your car engine shuts down ... hence rendering it useless. Am I correct in my understanding? Any car can be stolen if an experienced theif wants it.
  2. I would think you could sweet talk them to do it for you.
  3. If it doesn't do it after ^^^^, the dealer will need to set this as a Lexus Personalized Setting, which they will do free one time at your first service.
  4. You tell them what the problem is and they have the TSB. Then make your appointment to get it fixed. They sent letters out on the seat belt and fuel line problems. The dealers have all of them on file. We try to keep up on the TSB's so our members are informed. My dealer actually didn't want copies of the TSBs. They told me they would prefer to troubleshoot the problem on their own first, rather than blindly perform a TSB (which makes sense, other than, say, the brake dust).
  5. i mean so thats my point DUH lexus has the capability of making perfect auto tilt mirrors that work every single time. it's lexus. but what im saying is that since they make so few and its out of the norm to find one and its so rare that they mess up on many of them b/c its not going through the standard assembly line. but ya if they made more with the lux package and if i didnt hear so many complaints i'd get one in a jiffy. lexus rocks. period. No mfg can make every item of any product it produces "perfect" every time. That's why they have warranties.
  6. No one knows about the 3G yet. Here's what I saw on another forum about the '09. I haven't read my Lexus Mag to confirm yet:
  7. The rain sensor is in the windshield somehow, thus creating the high price for a new windshield. At least, that's my understanding. I'm pretty sure the rain sensor is the little box near the rear view mirror on the inside of the windshield, it's not "part" of the windshield any more than the rear view mirror itself is then. Don't have a pic handy, but here's an aftermarket system that uses the same type of sensor in a similar location- http://www.raintracker.com/rt_more_info.php this is correct. There's nothing "in" the windshield. But, what probably adds to the cost is the labor involved in attaching/unattaching the rain sensor.
  8. There's no Verizon issue. I had a Razr v3m, and now a BlackBerry Pearl--both auto connect every time w/in about 5 seconds of startup.
  9. Well, if you don't have those options, you don't have a "fully loaded" car. Sounds like a bit of rationalization--do you REALLY think that they keep production down of these options because they are purposely putting out poor quality product? Man--that's crazy. I don't have ML, but I do have the Lux Pkg. I have had no problems with my steering wheel. I do have problems with my tilt-down mirrors, which I will make the dealer fix under warranty when I go in for my next service. As far as rock chips on the windshield--how often does this really happen? That's why you keep insurance on your car--if there is a repair which is going to be expensive out of pocket, claim it under your insurance.
  10. I'll try that. I never lock my car in the garage, so maybe that's why. I'll fiddle with it and see how it goes. You shouldn't HAVE to do this, though.
  11. Actually it does, if you leave your lights to "on" all the time, the car will still shut them off as if they were on AUTO after the car is turned off. Unless you leave a door open theres no way to leave your lights on in a Lexus. That's what I was saying, I've never had luck with it. They stay on inside the garage. I don't know if it's too much illumination reflecting off the walls, or what. But I leave it in the auto position, pull into my garage, shut off the car, the lights will never turn off............Do I need to just trust that they'll turn off? Half an hour later, I go back out in the garage, and they're still on...... Then something is wrong with your car. Once you turn the car off, then open the door, the lights will automatically go off in 30 seconds (assuming that's what the LPS is set for), whether the knob is set to "ON" or "AUTO". It has nothing to do with how dark the garage is.
  12. True--but why have the SmartKey if you have to use the remote anyway. I'm with the OP--I had this LPS changed--I hated it.
  13. You don't need the dealer to do this. You can do it yourself with the <o> switch to the left of the steering column.
  14. The updated LPS sheet says you *must* do them at this service if you want them done for free.
  15. Careful--the new LPS sheet on lexus.com says you must do it at your 1000 mi service if you want it done for free.
  16. Since the current gen GS was introduced in '05, I seriously doubt this body style will still be around in 2011...
  17. The third on mine is a windshield wiper de-icer, then the 2 mentioned above. Apparently it heats the bottom portion of the windscreen in order to release the wipers when iced on. I don't have much need for it here in Australia. No snow or ice where I live. Oh--that would be awesome. Why don't AWD models have that in the US???
  18. I don't know about anywhere else but they just made it illeagal here to have those because it's offensive. :o More offensive than mudflaps with the outline of a naked woman?
  19. I'm sure that the manual explains it--but, did you try calling the dealer and asking for an instructional? Relentless Pursuit of Perfection, right? Maybe they'll arrange it.
  20. Complain. If there's anything that you *think* may turn into a warranty issue, note it now. If it breaks/malfunctions/etc outside the warranty period, you can tell them -- "Well, I complained about this before the warranty expired, so it should have been fixed then." If you're not a jerk about it, sometimes they'll do a "courtesy" fix even though it's out of warranty.
  21. I would not buy a Lexus without the Luxury Package. I purchased a 2008 IS250 AWD in November, 2007. The dealer only had 1 IS in stock with the Luxury Package. The Package contains the following: Seat Memory settings for the driver & passenger Rain sensing wipers HID headlights Auto dimming outside mirrors Power adjustable steering column Power rear sunshade Illuminated scuff plates I do not understand why there are so few vehicles with this package. Buy this package and forego the Navigation System. Instead purchase a portable Navigation System. It will be better than the System that Lexus uses. Get both.
  22. So, since we're assuming, :D can I assume that you are thinking of taking the car back?? I mean no disrespect, but if not, I think that you're just spitting in the wind here. Lamenting over what you might consider to be a bad choice tells me that you bought the car for the wrong reason. It is not too difficult to spend $37k on a car with far less amenities and quality. This is far from the flagship of the Lexus line. Actually, the "queezy" feeling has gone. I took forever to decide if I wanted to spend that much on a car, so I did my due diligence (the "need moral support" in title was really in jest). No regrets- just curious as to how others come to the conclusion to spend on a car. And perhaps partly playing the "devil's advocate." I doubt that I've made anyone else question their decision, which was not my intent. Human behavior, to me, is very interesting. And I agree, btw, that $37k isn't anywhere near the top. It's all relative, needless to say, and I think most have a price point in the decision process- whether they're buying a $60k or $35k car. Anyone who can afford $75k and up- well, maybe they have the luxury of not caring. We should not be "convincing" you to buy any particular car. You should do what you are comfortable, and fiscally able, to do.
  23. My car almost always will downshift when I am coasting down hill, and hit the brakes.
