  1. I was actually having this other discussion on a local forum with a guy that wanted to convert his car to RHD. Some of the main points that were brought up were the blind-spots, daily usage(drive-thru windows), insurance, and a few others. I think for saftey's sake i would drive on whatever side is dominant in that country
  2. Depends on your driving really. You can gear out the 5speed to match the 6, and vice-versa, but it really depends on what you want to do with your car. I like my 5 speed cause i can easily keep it in the powerband or i can keep it stable for city driving. The 6speed would be nice to have just to say i have it, but other than circuit racing, i wouldnt need it
  3. Theres a few different hoods here in Japan. FRP and Carbon or Carbon/Aramid. Mostly there are stock replacements, but there are the drift style with the F50 type negative scoop. Before you ask, no, its not worth it to ship to the states unless youre ready to pay alot
  4. In 1996 to get a full option soarer in america it would have cost over 86000 with the exchange rate. The SCs are really base model Soarers when you think about it. Also, would you really have bought a SC with a 2.5l inline 6 engine on a car that big? Most americans wouldnt consider the fact that its twin turbo and makes more power than the V8, they just see the 2.5l and walk away. V8s are few and far inbetween in japan since they partially base road tax on engines.
  5. Step 1. Open your radiator cap(once its cool) Step 2. Pull off 1.5" hose on the bottom of the radiator Step 3. Refill radiator after reconnecting hose
  6. Check and see if it does it when the car isnt running. If its not doing it then, then you might want to check the alternator and maybe a leaking power steering pump
  7. I can describe it to you in a few steps, but there isnt any guide as far as i know. Hardest part about the auto trans is getting the fluid lines out of the trans, but otherwise its really straight forward. Make sure you have a four foot extension to make it over the trans to get the top bolts. Be prepared to get soaked in trans fluid too.
  8. Thats wierd..i thought the RPM came from a signal off the ignition coil
  9. Hood only does 60lbs or so, depending on the material used. Also, for more precise weight distribution, you should put the battery behind the front seats. But if youre doing drag i guess it would be better over the back tires. That and you dont want a hydrogen bomb inside your car
  10. Cheap, easy, and it can clean the house later
  11. I have it and i dont know what it does. I dont have auto lights, security system or any options at all. I was under the impression that its for the climate control like the one in the bumper
  12. SC300=JZZ31 chassis SC400=UZZ31 chassis What you should get but will never be able to in the states Soarer=JZZ30 chassis What you should get but will never be able to anywhere Soarer=UZZ32 Overall, the cars are all completely the same(except for the god-like UZZ32). An SC300 is the exact same as a SC400 is the exact same as a Soarer. Except for the engine and trans. Of course people can nickel and dime me to death about the details, but thats the major difference. Like everyone else says, ask yourself what you want the car to do, or what you expect out of the car and go from there with your decision
  13. I learned everything i need to know about racing from Vin: 1. I better "Double-clutch" whatever that may be 2. Dont granny shift 3. Dont "blow the welds off the intake manifold" 4. Always have at least three NOS buttons cause the other guy only has two 5. Get a cool laptop to flash at me when i start going too fast
  14. Supras swear by the NGK coppers. More maintainance though
  15. You do realize that some people will look at that and wonder why you have "sailplane" tattoo'd on your back, right? Japanese language isnt an exact science by any means
  16. It may be off on a wild tangent, but.... 39 Denso Sard Supra GT (Ranked #1) 38 au Cerumo Supra(Ranked #3) 6 Esso Ultraflo Supra(Ranked #6) 35 Yellow Hat Supra(Ranked #7) 37 Dynacity Tom's Supra(Ranked #8) 36 Woodone Tom's Supra(Ranked #9) 25 Eclipse Advan Supra(Ranked #10) They all use the 3uz-fe. Granted, its not the 1uz and its a whole different engine than the production engine, but they also control 7 out of 10 spots in the GT500 class of the JGTC. Lets not forget about the Craftsman Truck series Toyota also
  17. If you want to drag then i would upgrade to the supra TT auto trans or keep yours. The autos can handle the horsepower with a few hundred dollars in upgrades. Well, maybe up to 400hp. As for keeping the TRAC with the manual trans, im not sure how easy thats going to be. Ive never dealt with traction control and i specifically got my car without trac.
  18. I think this is the subject that wars are started over. For my disclaimer: "In my humble opinion," I can respect any car that has had the time and effort put into it by the owner. As for my "Lexus"(which is proudly marketed as a Toyota in Japan) i have put alot of time into it to make it into what I want it to be. Im sure that ive lost enough blood into that car to save a human life. Enough skin has been torn from my hands to.....well, nevermind. Thats sick and has nothing to do with the point. The point is that i put blood, sweat, and tears into my car to make it into something i want. I could care less what someone else thinks of my car since everyone had the option to buy one, but they didnt. They chose to buy something else cause thats what they liked. When they buy it, they see something in their car that they wont see in mine, because its theirs. Same as all men are created equal, so are cars. When i buy that car, it no longer belongs to Toyota Corp and it is no longer equal. It is mine and will be remade in my image how i see fit. On that same note, "pimping," is a state of mind. Regardless if you have metallic green paint with gold metal flake and some hundred spoke daytons, or fresh off the factory blue with Lexus rims, youre still pimping your ride. Sticking up for your car when someone says its ugly is pimping your ride. Every time you look at your car and smile, deep down inside you know all you want to say is,"Damn, thats pimp." But anyways....thats my humble opinion
  19. I have a pod filter and i went into the fender. Going to when i get the FMIC piping figured out, but you know what i mean. The optimal intake spot is going to be wherever pressure is highest so you can get the most into the intake. Usually this will be the first point where the car would meet on-coming air.
  20. bah! dont listen to nay-sayers. At least if you do go through with it you will have one of the only manual trans SC400s -in the country-. SC300 would be alot easier to do and cheaper to make faster, but the SC400 is starting to hold that mystical wonder for me. I may get rid of the 1jz when i get back and pick up a 400.
  21. Actually, you need to find a bellhousing that would fit the 1UZ to the applicable trans. Probably the R154 or W58, even the V160 depending on how much cash you want to throw at it. The bellhousing is probably the hardest part to get and after that there shouldnt be that much of a problem. The auto ECU can run a manual. Its what i have on mine and theres a few people on the australian forums that have manual sc400.
