Was your Sirius radio dealer installed? What did it cost? Do you have an RX400h? My dealer is telling me that they cannot install in the 2006 RX400h and that I should go aftermarket.

We've had our 2006 RX400h for six months now and the wife would like satellite radio. Searching here and reviewing the Lexus web site, it seems that Lexus dealers can install either XM or Sirius upgrades that fully integrate with the car's radio display (we have Mark Levinson option). Any information from the experts here on prices and your experience with dealer installed satellie radio options -- either XM or Sirius -- are much appreciated. Jim

My wife felt the same way when our RX400h was in the shop and she got an RX330 loaner for a week. She was SO GLAD that we bought that RX400h!

We've actually been pleasantly surprised at how good the voice quality is with the Bluetooth hands-free in our Lexus RX400h using our Verizon Nokia 6256i phone.

Why not post the step-by-step instructions here? This questions comes up often, and Verizon's Bluetooth phones are very challenging.

Be careful about using cheap gas in your Hybrid. We had problems with our brand new RX400h that was supposedly caused by bad gas .... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=27584 Bottom line .... frequent use of quality fuel cleaner additive (RedLine or Techron) is recommened.

On my Verizon Nokia 6256i you transfer contacts one-at-a-time as "Business Card" contacts. Not sure if it's the same with the Motorola.

Update 2/18/06: Got our RX400h back today and it seems to be all better. They replaced all 6 fuel injectors, pulled and cleaned the fuel tank, and replaced the fuel filter. They still think it was a bad batch of gas. Our service advisor said that the RX engines have especially sensitive fuel injectors. He suggested adding a bottle of Redline SI1 or Techron fuel cleaner additive every 3 months or so to help keep them clean. Here are the details from the work order of what they diagnosed and performed .... Check engine light on, flashing then solid. Find codes P0300, P0304 & P0305. Misfires on cylinders. Clear codes and inspect data while engine under load. Noted misfires in excess of 50% at #5 cylinder only. Find misfire not always current. Find fuel trims well above normal. Also above normal for code stored data for "P0304". Contacted "TAS" for concern. Find no pending codes other than noted above. Perform misfire isolation diagnoses. Swapped ignition coils and spark plugs with #5 and #6 cylinders. Recheck for misfire. Find misfire still within #5 cylinder. Inspect fuel quality = unknown. Misfire caused from lean burn at #5 injector. Also pending codes P0300, P0302 & P0305. Perform A/F control active test. Set A/F to "+25%". Noted large improvement with no misfire felt. Remove & renew all fuel injectors. Remove fuel tank and renew filter/suction sock. Reinstall tank and check for leaks. Extensive drive test. No misfire noted. Recheck engine control and values are well within normal ranges. Clear codes and test drive second day with cold start. All good.

Update 2/13/06: Well, the Service Advisor called today and they're convinced the problem was indeed bad gas. His theory is that "suspended polymers" clogged the fuel injectors, although there was some disagreement with the "experts" in California who initially thought it was an electrical problem. So now they've ordered new fuel injectors and filters and will clean the tank and fuel pump. Hopefully we'll have our RX400h back by Friday this week. My Service Advisor also told me that the RX fuel injectors are especially sensitive to fuel contamination problems .... something about the "unique design" of the RX injectors. Obviously this is a bit worrisome, especially when we've only bought name brand premium fuel. How does one prevent it from happening again? I wonder if using an additive like RedLine SI-1 Fuel Treatment regularly would help?

I do remember that incident. One would hope that gas batch is long gone from the supply chain. I will certainly be asking that gas station about it if the Lexus tech truly thinks it was bad gas.

Latest update, Friday, Feb 10, Noon: Service advisor tells me that it was an "engine misfire" diagnostic trouble code. Additionally he told me that they are currently leaning in the direction of fuel contaminarion, which restricts the injectors and causes check engine light and driveability concerns. They will be checking further Monday (today is Friday). If it's fuel contamination it very well maybe necessary to replace the injectors. I would be surprised if it turns out to be fuel contamination because we only use name brand (76 Union) premium gas. I'll keep you all posted.

The service techs certainly acted like it was a first for them, too! I just hope we don't have "lemon" :(

Our RX400h (delivered in November) is currently in the shop with a "check engine" problem. They've had it for a day now and are not yet sure what's wrong. The "check engine" light came on a few days ago with no obvious drivability issues. Of course we checked the gas cap :) Called the local dealer and arranged for service and a loaner. During the drive yesterday to the dealer, the "check engine" light began blinking and the gas engine was stuttering and misfiring. Several technicians greeted us upon arrival and seemed eager to diagnose the problem. Talked to the Service Manager this afternoon and he said they think it's a fuel-related problem and that they were still working with the "experts" in California for a final diagnosis and repair. Any ideas folks? I'll keep you posted when the dealer solves the problem. In the mean time we'll get by with a loaner RX330.

Mysalesman and friend called me this week to inform me that the update for the navigation for my 2004 Rx330 is now available. I called the parts dept. and ascertained that the purchase price will be $300 + ?? for unstallation. I plan to ask the salesman to see if he can swing a discount for me (an employee discount). From the other posts, copying the DVD disks seems challenging and the disks are readily available. For this reason, Lexus can charge us hese exorbitant prices. Now that's a good idea! Something sticky, like a big lint roller. Of course, the wheel wells need to be dry for that to work. Any other ideas out there?

Any tips on cleaning inside the wheel wells on the RX330/400h? Lexus uses this black fabric-like material which really holds onto things like dirt and pine needles. I've tried brushes, sponges, and water blasts, but often resort to picking the remaining debris out with my fingers. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Why didn't Lexus just use a plastic liner in those wheel wells?

It's the same in the 2006 RX400h. I plan to ask my dealer about it, but so far nobody seems to know why it's different, or if there's a way to actually have the RDS Text scroll.

Actually the RX400h is more comparable to the BMW X5, not the X3. My wife and I spend several weeks comparing the RX400h to the X5, and it was a close decision to choose the RX400h. The things that tipped the scale for us included .... * better performance (compared to the 3.0L X5) * more interior room * better Navigation system * expected better reliability * better mileage We also own a 2002 BMW530i which as been a great car, so it was truly a tough decision. There's something about the "BMW feel" that the Lexus just doesn't match, but overall we felt the RX400h was a better choice. Even my BMW dealer agreed that the RX400h is a tough car for them to beat. Of course, this is the last year for the current X5 since a redesigned X5 premiers later this year as a 2007 X5.

On our 2006 Lexus RX400h you can dial the "one touch" numbers even while the car is in motion. Otherwise we just use the phone keypad to dial when the car is moving. It hasn't really been a problem.

I would think that your insurance company should be able to tell you if the car is "totaled" or repairable. If they can't locate a body shop capable of repairing an RX400h, then it's totaled. How did they come up with the $10,000 estimate?
