  1. If the sender does need replacing, the attached TSIB provides information about its location and how to get to it. 1998-2000 LS400 Miles since refuel TSIB.pdf
  2. Blake moved to a new Toyota Prius, Jeremy (jcrome04) now drives a Nissan Maxima, and one of the last posts from Ralph in October, 2008 said: "Currently recovering in Louisiana from a flood in my home from Hurricane Ike........being underwater still......Sucks."
  3. Sewell sells them for $434.86 if your register with an automobile forum member name. Gosh, you would lose auto-dimming and auto tilt. Why would anybody want these things. I don't know if the 2007 IS has a turn signal wire at the outside mirror housing. If not, wiring the mirror turn signals might take some dash disassembly or even running wires for the mirror signals to the front of the car.
  4. If your A/C is losing enough refrigerant to stop producing cold air every 3 to 4 weeks, then there is a serious leak that a mechanic should be able to easily find. Is your mechanic adding dye to the system and then checking for leaks with a black light? Where in Kansas are you?
  5. And you are following the instructions in your owners manual and any that are specific to your garage door opener model?: From your owners manual: If your device is “Rolling Code” equipped, it is necessary to follow steps 1 through 4 under the heading “Programming the HomeLink” before proceeding with the steps listed below. 1. Locate the “training” button on the ceiling mounted garage door opener motor. The exact location and color of the button may vary by brand of garage door opener. Refer to the owner’s guide supplied by the garage door opener manufacturer for the location of this “training” button. 2. Press the “training” button on the ceiling mounted garage door opener motor. 3. Press and release the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button twice. The garage door may open. If the door does open, the programming process is complete. If the door does not open, press and release the button a third time. This third press and release will complete the programming process by opening the garage door. The ceiling mounted garage door opener motor should now recognize the HomeLink unit and be able activate the garage door up/down. 4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for each remaining HomeLink button to program another rolling code system. I suppose it is possible that your garage door opener is not compatible. If it is, most garage door openers can be fitted with new HomeLink compatible receivers without replacing the entire garage door opener. It has sometimes taken me several tries to program a HomeLink button - timing is everything. If all else fails, follow the instructions in the attached image. :whistles:
  6. If you are talking about the side market light on the side of the front bumper cover, I think access is through the wheel well as on my 2000 LS400 which has the side marker in the same place. Loosen the front of the inner fender liner just enough to squeeze your hand in.
  7. If you agreed to the price the Lexus dealer asked you certainly were not "ripped off". The $19.99 price you found is great if it really is a new OEM Phillips bulb. I don't think I've seen OEM HID Phillips bulbs for less than about $65 on eBay but I haven't checked recently. Be sure your eBay bulb is new -- most of the super low prices I've seen on eBay have been for used or no-name bulbs. Headlight bulbs are not too difficult to change. I've never had a mechanic do it for me and I've gone through a lot of bulbs in my 45 years of driving.
  8. If the headlight lenses are original and still clear on your 12 year old LS400's, it would seem that the weather and road conditions under which the cars were driven was mild and clean. Polishing them might do more harm than good since they come from the factory with a clear finish on the lenses. That the headlights originally had a clear finish was obvious when I refinished the ones on my 00 LS with a Crystal View kit several years ago. The refinishing process involved sanding the lenses with very fine sandpaper and essentially removing the damaged clearcoat before applying a new clearcoat substance that was part of the Crystal View kit. Last winter was especially hard on my headlight lenses and I need to refinish them again. I assume they will look like new after another refinishing just like they did the first time. Maybe you don't need to do anything to your headlight lenses other than keep them clean.
  9. Well ... I'm not seeing it in the 99 RX owners manual. Here is the section describing the instrument cluster. Can you see your "O-E"? BTW, you can view the complete owners manual without registering in the Owners section of http://www.lexus.com 1999 RX300 Pictoral Index.pdf
  10. Here you go. 1998 LS400 key programming.pdf
  11. I can find an "O-E" in your owners manual. Can you provide more information about exactly where this "O-E" is being displayed?
  12. I looked in the 2000 GS300 owners manual in the owners section of lexus.com and I don't see a VSC reset procedure like there is in my 2000 LS400 owners manual. The 2001-up LS requires jumping two pins with a short length of wire to reset the VSC so may it takes something like that on your 2000 GS300. Maybe someone else can tell you how it is done. If you can't find the problem, consider seeing if there are stored error codes.
  13. It's not all that uncommon for something to fail intermittently until it fails completely. What do the codes indicate is the problem?
  14. You can view an owner manual for your car, including information about fuse locations and functions, in the owners section of www.lexus.com
  15. It's possible that whoever ever did the work left a sensor or vacuum line unplugged. After you correct the problem, it may be necessary to reset your VSC. Depending on your car's year, there may be a VSC resetting procedure described in your owners manual. It would help to either include your car's model year in your profile or always state it when asking a question. "GS300" covers a lot of model years and variations.
  16. "Quarter Outside Moulding Sub-Assembly" - $149.45 after a rather large auto forum member discount at http://lexus.sewellparts.com These parts can require additional parts and a pop rivet gun to install so you might want to have a body shop do it if you don't have the tools.
  17. The attached diagram is from http://lexus.sewellparts.com/ in Texas where I have bought a number of parts at good prices. Is this what you are looking for? I registered with my ClubLexus forum member name to get these prices ... not sure if they take your member name from this forum but let us know. I'm guessing that the Sewell parts listing may be a little out of wack and that some of the prices shown are for the rear doors. Here are the individual part numbers from http://www.toyodiy.com . You may have to register to see the diagrams there and if you do it can take a day or two for your account to be activated: 68170 WEATHERSTRIP ASSY, FRONT DOOR GLASS, INNER 68170‑50010 RH 68220‑50010 LH 68190 WEATHERSTRIP ASSY, REAR DOOR GLASS, INNER 68190‑50010 RH 68240‑50010 LH
  18. There are a number of iPod interface kits for your GS on eBay ( http://motors.shop.ebay.com ) including OEM and those from http://www.vaistech.com/dev/home.php , some of which can display iPod/iPhone video. The attached doc from Lexus Europe Techinfo might give you an idea of the complexity of installation into a GS. GS Europe iPod install instructions.pdf
  19. Happy Birthday, Billy. Is your third 99 LS also white? Have you thought about getting wild and crazy and maybe buying a 2000 LS400 or - hold on to your hat - a 2001 LS430?
  20. VSC shuts off when a myriad of problems arise - most having nothing to do with VSC. What issues did the codes indicate?
  21. I doubt if there is all that much similar between the audio systems of your LS400/Celsior and a North American LS400. If the car you are buying is a Japanese market Celsior it could have navigation which was not available in the North American LS400 until the 1998 model year (Autumn 1997). In dash CD changers were not on LS400's sold here until the 1995 model year (Autumn 1994). And our radios have only AM and FM bands -- without the medium, short wave and traffic bands on right hand drive LS400's and Celsiors. By all means, check the fuses. On most Toyota and Lexus cars sold here, there are two fuses for the audio system: "Radio 1" and "Radio 2". One is in the engine compartment fuse box and one is in the fux box under the dash. The easiest way to check the amp is to remove it and try it in another similar car. On my 2000 LS400, the amp is easily removed without removing the front seat although it takes a second person to push the front tabs into the slots when reinstalling it. I once tested my amp by laying it on the rear floor of a friend's car and plugging his amps cables into my amp. It was not necessary to remove his amp to test mine. Your problem may not be the amp. When one of the channels on my audio system went out, everyone told me that the amp was the problem but my amp worked fine when I tested it in my friend's car. The problem turned out to be a loose wire on the balance control in the head unit. Show us some photos of your car. It's always nice to see photos of RHD Celsiors and LS400's since they frequently have a much higher level of equipment than those sold in North America.
  22. No, I never take up two spaces. Back in 1976 I bought a monthly parking pass to a multilevel parking garage in downtown Kansas City near a bank where I was a computer programmer. The spaces were not assigned and there were supposed to be enough parking spaces for all people who had monthly passes plus the limited number of passes sold daily. One day when I arrived for work late I found that there were no more parking spaces and a Datsun 240/260Z was straddling two spaces. That was my space! I won't go into detail about what "happened" to that Datsun but my guess is that the Datsun owner's radio reception was likely poor on his way home. The key to defensive parking is to look for an especially large end space where no one can park on the right of me and to hug the right side of the space. 83.3% of all cars (I made that up) carry only a driver and the passenger door likely will not be opened when someone parks his car next (to the left) of mine. My second choice of parking spaces is a parallel parking space on the street at either front or the back of a block ... i.e. either no one parking in front of me or no one parking behind me. Again I hug the front or back of the space. Or I look for an exceptionally large parallel parking space where people might park in front and behind me. Damn that Smart Car that still squeezed in and shared my space one time. If I'm going to parallel park, I prefer to park where someone can park only behind me since I know I'm going to get my rear bumper cover replaced or repainted on a regular basis due to people slamming into the rear bumper while they are playing with their electronic gadgets. If all else fails and I can't find my perfect parking space, I'll park whatever distance away from my destination that it takes to minimize the risk of dings. I rarely have a problem finding a perfect or nearly perfect space, it rarely takes more than an extra minute or three and I sometimes get an exercise bonus if I have to park far away from my destination. My wife has gotten used to me dropping her off in front of restaurants and stores and then zooming off to find an acceptable parking space. And per LEXIRX330's method, if we are going somewhere where I know there will be no defensive parking spaces, we TAKE THE WIFE'S CAR! She parks her car using the "Braille method" and she isn't going to notice anther scratch or dozen.
  23. Under "General Settings", set "Auto Screen Change" to "Off" ... section 12, page 343 of your navigation manual.
  24. Since you say that the "dealership wants a fortune to repair" I'm assuming that you have had the problem evaluated at a Lexus dealership and have been given a diagnosis and a cost of repair. What did the dealer say was the problem?
  25. Bummer. One word: "defensive parking". I've turned it into an art form and haven't gotten a door ding since Winter 1978.
