Modern day gas pedals use a Hall effect switch, a magnetic field determines the position of the gas pedal. If that magnet field is interfere with, it can cause a run away situation, but that senerio is very unlikely. When you step on the gas pedal, that signal doesnt go to the throttle body directly. the pedal will open up a valve to lwt more air in, the mass flow sensor senses more air and sents a signal to the computer to increase gas injected into the combusion chamber. There are many sensors in this chain, but its a proven system that have work reliably for years. Also, some car's stability system and traction control is connected to the throttle computer, and lastly, dont for the cruise control :)

5000 miles on sythetic oil with a 99 RX should be fine. Most of the time, manufacturers dont want the owners to run long sythetic oil change interval because the oem oil filter is not design for it and they want their dealer to make more money on maintenance. There are a few after market oil filters that are design for long oil change intervals. -
Problems dont always shows up in a lab condition, thats why there is nothing better than real world testing. The ECU might not be the problem, it can be the programing or maybe the sensors.

Do you know if the longer service intervals using synthetic oil also apply to the 09RX350? -- and yes, the Germans have been allowing 15K miles or one year (BMW). I did not believe so, someone need to confrim that. I think it is only for newer Lexus which uses sythetic oil. -
Toyota can't even find the problem with it, you think someone else is? It's like dealing with a computer that glitches "every once and a while". Unless an engineer is IN a car WHILE it's failing having every electrical component hooked up to diagnostics... they'll never find where the glitch is. Exactly, if the glitches only happens under a rare condition or it only happens to 1 car in a million and on that 1 in a million car, it only happens once every 5 years, how are these Toyota hired engineers going to find it? Their chances are as good as hitting the lottery.

Philips makes a very good bulb, dont expect those to be 4300K though. It will be whiter than the owm halogen, but it will not be as white or as bright as a real HID headlight. It will also have a short life than the factory bulb. As long as you know what to expect, those bulbs are pretty good for what it is. -
If you mean this article, it doesnt mean much since it is only a preliminary report and it is from a consulting firm hired by Toyota. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/02/13/toyota.re...?iref=allsearch

Its about time, the Germans have been doing long sythetic oil change intervals for years now. The Lexus dealers must not be very happy over the lost of income. -
It seems like the software being install in all the recalled Lexus and Toyota function in such a way that when the driver hits the brakes, the engine will go to idle speed. I wonder how this will affect stop and go traffic and the smoothness of the ride.

Stay away from those Ebay no name brands unless you want poor performance and changing out new bulbs every 3 months. -

I am not sure what option 1 is, but here in the US, its sport package or non-sport. I test drove the non-sport package 2 months. It was stiffer than the last gen but it handle a bit better too. It wasnt even close to a 3 series as far as stiffness. Lexus is making their suspension stiffer in their new car to improve handling, but in my opinion, it is still one of the softest around. -
Well, there is your problem, Flaken are bargain basement tires. You need something that will grip better.

Tires / 2008 Lexus Gs 350 Awd

RDN_GS 350 I second that, ContiExtremeContact tires are great tires for the money. Good in the snow and in the summer. You can spend more and get the Michelin pilots, but it wouldnt be as good in the snow. And yes your GS have TPMS, make sure you tell the installer that. -
Did the tech drive your car home? A lot of them do that to save tech hours, but they are suppose to ask you 1st.

Do You Think Toyota/lexus Will Improve Quality In The Future?

The ES and the LS is top sellers in the US, but world wide, they are behind the likes of the BMW, MB and Audi. You must admit, Firestone should have been more to blame, but at the end Ford got the bulk of the blame. -
That is the going price for a 2007 LS. If you negociate with your dealer, maybe you can save abother $2000, but not much more.

SW03ES, I think we are talking about two different problem. I know what you are talking about with the Toyota criuse control. I feel the same accelaration when I hit resume, in fact, a lot of other make of cars I have own does the same. What the others have said in the article is that the cruise send them out of control and some have ride the brakes until its glowing red. There is another article in CNN a few days ago about how State Farm insurance warning Toyota and the Fed about the increasing care of sudden accelaration and Toyota choose to ignore their finding. In fact, thats the stroy with a lot of owners, Toyota have gotten so big, they no long can talk to Toyota about problems in their car.

I could never under the fake wood trims in any car, why not just go with plastic or aluminium, fake wood is as chessy as it gets. To me the LS and the ES are nice cars, but they are boring to drive. There are cars out there that has a much better balnace between luxury and performance. Lexus is starting to realize this as well. That is why they invested all that money into NASCAR, the LFA and the F program. Have you notice the new Lexus's suspension are stiffer and they handle better, yes even the 2010 ES350 handles better than before. The Ford Explorer was one model, Lexus is recalling more than a half dozen models. I guess if you take that into consideration, Toyota has it easy. -
Really? Was it a continuious and out of control acceleration under resume or was a sudden accelaration and then it levels off and start to lose speed. Didnt you find this abnormal, have you ever question your dealer about it?

My wife had a ES a few years ago and thought that it would be the natural progression to go from a ES to a GS since we wanted to stay in the Lexus family, boy, was I wrong. The GS is pobably the second worst car I have ever owned, the worst being the Hyundai excel I has in college 20 years ago.

Thats understanble nc211, not everybody likes Jags, but you like a Camry better than a Jag? Come on :) We have 2 Camry Hybrid where I work, they are full of rattles and the interior is made from very cheap material. Before, you buy your GS, do a little research first, the 2nd gen GS is pretty good but the 3rd gen GS is full of rattles and other issues. There is a long list of TSBs and its almost like Lexus have given up on that model.

The ES have always been a proven product for Lexus, its a high volume car, so Lexus make sure it is relaible. I disagree about the media beating up on Toyota though, the media was just as bad on the Ford Explorer, Ford Pinto and Audi 500 when they had their problems. -

There are a few tinted Halogen H11 that will put out 4600K to 5000K, but they are so heavily tinted that their light output is very low. Some brands try to compensate foe low output with high wattage, which is a bad idea also, it can cause electrical problem, light housing problem and cause the bulb to have a very short life. Sylvania silverstar ultra will last longer than most high performance bulb, but they are more like 3500k in my opinion. To get a true 5000K output and good lumens, you will need to convert to a projector HID light. -
Lexus paying half of one of the issue is more than what most other manufacturer might be willing to do, since you are out of warranty. Take it as a gift from Lexus and call it a day. On the other hand, it is troubling to hear that you ahve so many problem on a Lexus that is just out of warranty.
