  1. The antenna on my RX goes well above the roof when extended. I can measure it if you wish. Definitely sounds like yours is just dirty and stuck. There is an internal pressure switch that shuts off the motor when fully extended and will shut off early if the mast is stuck. As for your overdrive, it definitely sounds like it is not engaging. Get it checked out because this will not only cause you problems with your fuel mileage, but will prematurely wear your engine and transmission. Tom
  2. Has anyone thought that this may just be a normal noise as the transmission downshifts? Since only the poster has heard the noise then I don't think any of us can say if the noise is abnormal. I have never heard an auto tranny that did not have some amount of whine to it (especially when downshifting). Maybe he's just more sensitive to noises on a vehicle that's new to him. Just another opinion. May or may not be worth anything. Tom
  3. Does your cigarette lighter have power?? Probably the fuse has blown for your cigarette lighter - the HVAC controls run off of the same fuse. Before you replace the fuse, make sure that you have not dropped anything metal into the socket - that's the most common cause. Tom
  4. Golfczar, how did your install turn out?? Tom
  5. It depends on your driving style. It takes the last 25 miles or so and uses that consumption to determine how much farther you can go on your available fuel. If you are hard on the gas then you will see that number go down faster. If you are easy on the gas then you will see that number rise.
  6. Thanks. I'll look forward to your comments. Tom
  7. Check the engine under cover. Is there a "pool" of oily substance on it? If so, your AC lines could be leaking. That's what happened to mine recently. That is cheaper than replacing compressor. Get this fixed or else all your oil will leak out after several "recharges" and you will burn up your compressor. Not cool. Tom
  8. I'll take you up on your offer. Like I say in my previous post I am not really going to change my system unless mine dies, but I am very curious about how things work. Thanks Here is a link to my previous thread. Previous Post Tom
  9. Awesome. Thanks. It works on my 2001 RX also. Tom
  10. Nice work. It will be interesting to see how closely the new IS convertible comes to this pic. The front end will be different, of course, but the sides and rear may be similar. Tom
  11. OK. No bites so far, how about if I change the question a bit... I have read the threads about installing aftermarket radios and the problems you run into with directing the output through the stock amp. I have not read one that said they had any luck with good sound. So, this Pioneer has RCA outputs for an external amp. What if you take this output and run it through the stock amp? Would the results be good, or is the actual issue another problem? I don't think I'm really going to change my factory stereo (unless it dies), but I am a curious type. Thanks Tom
  12. That's a really good point. If it were me I would drain the oil, change the filter, and refill the oil before I even started it the first time. Then I would do it again after driving the car only long enough to get it up to proper temp for 15 minutes or so. When you start the car the first time, I would do like SK says and actually disable the spark so that the car will not start. Crank the engine a few times to make sure everything is properly lubed up. Those cylinder walls and bearings will certainly be dry after all this time. Tom
  13. Yes. No air system that I know of will hold the air for that long. Start her up and check her out. Then let her sit overnight and see what happens.
  14. Definitely sounds like someone is trying to get paid for something they did not do or something they don't need to do. Depends on if the fluid was changed the first time or not. Tom
  15. Yes. It does have keyless entry. My '97 has a separate key fob. I bought an extra off of Ebay. You must be sure to get the right FCC code or it will not work. If you have the Nakamichi system it will say Nakamichi on the radio face. The other questions I do not know. Tom
  16. It depends on what they are calling a hydraulic fluid exchange. They could have changed your transmission fluid or something. How much did they charge you for that service and how much fluid did they say they used? Tom
  17. Has anyone installed a Pioneer AVIC-D1 into their SC? Any problems with install? Any pics? Thanks Tom
  18. It's screwed into the valve cover closest to the firewall. At least on my 2001. Tom
  19. Sounds like it could be the battery. Even you lights and stereo will run if the battery is low. What do your headlights do if you leave them on and try to start the car? Tom
  20. The flat spot could be due to the tires. My brother-in-law is an engineer for Honda. He is in the quality group of new model and they had a major issue with the tires on the new Acura TL. The manufacturer changed the formula slightly and the tires flat-spotted terribly. Acura was even putting the cars on blocks at the dealerships and keeping one driving constantly so that the customers did not notice the problem. My Toyo tires do it a little bit too. I have gotten used to it. It won't hurt anything. Tom
  21. It looks like they mounted the one tire wrong. They can turn it around on the rim to face the right direction. Anyway, the chunk is bad news. Good thing you are getting new tires anyway. Tom
  22. Try seating the allen head socket into the hole with LIGHT taps from a hammer. Don't beat on it. See if that helps to seat the socket before you put the driver on. Then ratchet it off. Let us know. Tom
  23. Definitely double check to see if you have stripped it. If you do not have the tool completely seated in the hole then you may have just deformed the outer part of the hole and the lower part will be ok. Either way, you will probably want to get a new one to replace it so that you do not have any trouble the next time. If you find that the hole is totally stripped, you may be able to grip the outside of that bolt head with a pair of vise-grips and twist it loose. If that does not work then you may need to get a large "easy out" for stripped bolt heads. Tom
  24. Did you strip the threads or the 10mm hex hole??
