  1. Do you want it to completely stop?? Could you just pull the fuse or unhook the electrical connection? Tom
  2. I think the off function is only for when you are going to have your car hoisted into the air and the wheels taken off the ground. You would not get a very good ride if your air suspension was off all the time because it could not adjust itself as you drove. It would not keep itself at the level you have set. Tom
  3. Check the FCC ID code on the back of each unit. If they are the same, then it should work. If they are different, it will not work. Tom
  4. I had the same light and just changed my temp sensor this past weekend. No dice. It did not fix it. So, there are a couple of other things that need to be tested. But, you probably need to test yours first to see if it will help. How mechanical are you? Do you know what an EGR valve looks like? If not, I can take a picture and guide you through testing yours. Do you have an ohm meter? Tom
  5. Here are some links to my original install. I took out the in dash cupholder (drinkspiller) and made a bracket to hold the satellite radio. Earlier this year I removed the satellite radio and put in a Garmin Streetpilot 7200 navigation system, which includes satellite radio, in its place. I used the same bracket that I had created. It works really well. I have the bracket angled just enough so that the glove box door does not interfere when you open it. Front View Side View I should take some pictures of my navigation system and post them. Tom
  6. FM reception is so 90's. Step up and get linked to the satellites. ha ha ha Couldn't resist. Tom
  7. Although analog service is still supported (not for long), the major carriers will no longer allow you to activate a "new" analog phone on their systems. Tom
  8. I have a 2001. I believe I just type in what I am looking for and it displays a list. Then there is a button you can press to sort by distance and it will show the closest ones first. My wife is not here right now with the RX, but I can check later if you like. Tom
  9. What you are looking at is paint failure due to UV exposure. On basecoat/clearcoat paints, the UV protection is normally located in the clearcoat layer. After possible multiple buffings in its lifetime, your clear was thin. The sun's rays penetrated and began breaking down the crosslinks that were formed in the clearcoat and the basecoat. The thinner areas failed first. Tom
  10. I also have noticed that the sensor is sensitive. Does your overflow tank have any liquid in it? Are your overflow hoses in good condition? Tom
  11. You should have the whole country on your system. Your ID says that you have a 2002. I guess I don't understand your problem. Can you give more detail? Tom
  12. Good point Monarch, push upward. And, when you're in there you will see that you do not have much room at all to push up. There is a thick bar that is in the way. I think it is a roll bar or something. Anyway, the grips won't turn much. Maybe 10 degrees. But, that is enough. Once the solenoid is broken loose you will see that it is very easy to turn. There is an o-ring that makes contact when the solenoid is tightened and that rubber against the metal really sticks tight. Because it is a rubber o-ring, you don't really need a penetrating oil to break it loose. It's not like it is corroded metal that you need to get through. Also, try not to use the housing of the solenoid to turn it until you have broken it loose. It is not designed to spin and your could be ruining an otherwise good solenoid. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask. I'm sure I am still forgetting to tell something. Tom
  13. Well, I finally had the opportunity tonight to take a picture, but I am not really pleased with the results. I took off the engine undercover and placed the vise grips in the location I had used before. You'll notice in the picture that there is a plastic piece to the left of the grips. This must be removed for this to work. You will also notice that the grips are not in the best orientation for turning the nut, but it did work for me. Just try not to hit the grips too hard and break them loose. Firm pressure along with gentle to firm taps with a hammer worked for me. Don't attach the grips to the solenoid housing. Make sure you actually are attatched to the nut. Hope this helps. Tom
  14. If you go into the navigation setup menu you can set it to be DAY MODE, NIGHT MODE, or AUTOMATIC. DAY MODE is always bright. NIGHT MODE is always dim. AUTOMATIC changes between bright and dim based on your headlights. When your headlights turn on it dims your screen. That is the problem you are talking about, right?? Tom
  15. Do you have your system set up for automatic changes? Have you tried turning on your headlights? Tom
  16. I don't have enough time this coming weekend to take the picture (because of travel), but I'll try to get one taken next weekend (March 25th or so). No payment necessary. I'll want to take the engine under cover off again anyway just to make sure my solenoid has not begun to leak after reinstallation. Tom
  17. Wow. I am normally one of those people who doubt something until I see it for myself. The difference in my steering effort is incredible. I'm defintely glad I put in the effort. Tom
  18. Well, I finally decided to remove my PPS solenoid and clean the screen. I flushed my power steering system about a month ago, so I knew I needed to go in and do it. I had noticed over the past year that my steering was a little stiffer than it used to be, so I am hoping this fixes that situation. I'll find out in an hour or so when I take it out for the first drive. I read all the posts that I could find on here before I started. I tried tapping for about a half hour with no luck. It would not budge. So, I came inside and read some of the posts again and went back out. Still no luck with the tapping. Because of all the hoses and brackets in the area I was not able to get a good grip with the vise grips. After another 15 minutes I decided to do the best I could with the grips. About 6 tries with no grip. Finally, I was able to position the vise grips well and it held. I tapped the grips with the hammer and after about 10 taps it broke loose. I was relieved. My screen was really dirty. I wonder if the dealer sells just this screen? I got mine pretty clean, but it still was not like new. The next time I do this I'll check with them and I'll also get some new o-rings. I'll let you know how the drive goes. If anyone has questions, it's pretty fresh in my mind right now. Tom
  19. Is your cigarette lighter working? If not, it is probably the fuse as both of these things use the same one. Tom
  20. I believe the engine sludge issue was fixed in 2001. Can anyone confirm? You are correct, you cannot turn off the traction control on the AWD model, but you can turn it off on the FWD model. There seem to be fewer problems with FWD models than AWD. In fact, I don't remember hearing of a failure with the FWD. I think there is only the one white (Pearl). Tom
  21. I would also say no to all 3 things the dealership is trying to sell you. Just so you know, Lexus already has a sticker on every body panel with the VIN number. Welcome to the club. Tom
  22. I have not experienced the failure in my AWD, but I have heard of various failure modes. Slipping, jerky shifting, burning smell, etc. Sometimes they linger and sometimes they die suddenly. Certainly checking the service history at the Lexus dealer would be a first step. But, it's no guarantee. I have NAV in mine. I also have a new Garmin 7200 in my SC300. I like the Garmin unit better than the nav in the RX. But, that's merely a personal choice. If you like the Coach edition then get it and add an aftermarket nav unit. You may even come out ahead on pricing. Tom
  23. Why 110?? I suspect that you have "S" speed rated tires from the factory on the 330. Those tires are rated at 112mph, hence the cutoff at 110. Speed limiters on vehicles are typically based on tire ratings. My uncle bought a truck once that had a cutoff at 90mph. Needless to say he was not terribly pleased when he learned this going down a long straight mountain highway with a semi truck gaining on him. To change the limiter is to reprogram the ECU. There are multiple ways to do that. Search the web. Tom
  24. The transmission issues you have heard about are typically on the AWD models. You did not mention whether this was AWD or FWD. Certainly something to think about. Get it checked out by a Lexus dealer. It will be the best couple of hundred bucks you spend. Tom
