  1. No, you would not necessarily recognize a problem from the get-go. Amsoil makes some very fine products. Many of the requirements of your Lexus transmission may be met with the Amsoil tranny fluid, but possibly not all. Those few (possibly minor) requirements may not make a difference now, but after your next 50,000 miles you may find yourself with an issue. I have heard of enough transmission issues caused by someone not using Toyota fluid when it is specified to believe that there is something to it. Certainly using a lower quality fluid than Amsoil will cause these issues to manifest much sooner (sometimes nearly immediately) but I believe that Amsoil tranny fluid will not meet your end goal after enough time passes. I swear by the use of synthetic oil in both of my Lexus vehicles, but I stick with Toyota coolant and transmission fluid where it is called for. Just my 2 cents. Tom
  2. Many of the dressings out there that people like to use are very harmful to the interior materials. Leather is another material that has very specific needs. Once you dry out the natural oils in the leather or the plastisols in the interior plastics it is virtually impossible to revive these materials. Sunlight (UV exposure) is also the worst thing for your interiors. UV rays destroy most interior materials, it is just a waiting game. The more your car is in a covered area, the better off you are. The same goes for your paint. The UV blockers in your paint finish can only resist so much exposure. If your coating has thinned (due to polishing) then you will not have as much protection. If the coating was thin from the factory you will see it start to peel after a while. If your coating did not have the proper amount of UV blockers added in when it was manufactured then your paint will peel. Remember the medium blue GM cars in the late 80s??? I'm sure you probably have also seen the Chrysler cars with the peeling clearcoat. That's another example. Sunlight is deadly to our cars. We need to do our best to protect them.
  3. I checked out my RX. The AM and FM are pretty close to the same volume. When I switch to CD it gets a little louder, maybe 10%. Sounds like there might be some adjustment needed on your radio internally. Tom
  4. You can buy new rubber blade inserts at your dealer. Be sure to keep the metal backing plates that fit along both sides of the rubber. At the bottom end of the blade you will see where the "hook" on the blade support fits into a small slot on the rubber insert. Get the hook out of the slot and then just slide the rubber insert and backing plates right out. Install the backing plates into the new rubber and slide the new rubber into the blade support. Be sure to lock the hook into the small slot to secure the insert. Tom
  5. That's a good point. If I don't wedge my wheel lock in between something, it rattles against the lug wrench. It could also be a portion of the exhaust system rattling against another part. Either way, it should be easy to find with the help of a friend. Try this. While it is rattling with your foot on the brake, shift into reverse. Did the sound go away or did it stay the same??? Tom
  6. Did you purchase this vehicle as a certified pre owned vehicle from a Lexus dealer?? Either way, I would contact Lexus corporate and start pushing the issue. If a vehicle had its 15K and 30K work done at the dealer, then usually that person would have had the oil changed as well even though you don't have the records. I just heard about an engine replaced at my Lexus dealer where the owner never changed the oil and after 30K or 40K the engine died. Lexus paid to replace it. I think you can make some headway. Maybe you just don't have the right dealer. Tom
  7. Here's the other photo. (Now that I have figured out how to post the pics properly).
  8. Here are a couple of pictures of my XM SkiFi install. I custom made the bracket to fit into the slot created when I removed the useless cupholder. I did not drill any holes in the dash - I used the existing holes from the cupholder to install. Tom
  9. I agree. Toyota Type IV is what you should use. It replaces Type II. Tom
  10. I got a message from my salesman. He was up in Canada taking a tour of the RX330 plant. He said it was rather impressive. Anyway, the message he left did not answer the question because he misunderstood what I was asking. I'll call him on Monday. Tom
  11. Sorry, not yet. He must be on vacation or something. I'll definitely post something as soon as I hear. Tom
  12. Sounds like the modulation is low on the AM side. Compare AM to CD or FM (I'm sure that CD and FM are pretty close based on your comments). You said that AM needs to be at the 3 o'clock position. Where does the dial need to be for FM or CD to sound like it is the same volume?? I'll compare to mine and let you know if you have an issue or if they are similar. Have you tried other AM stations?? Is it all of them? Tom
  13. You just blew the fuse for the cigarette lighter. When you replace that, you'll be back in business. Let me know if you need help to know which fuse to change. Tom
  14. I'll send my guy an e-mail. He will probably reply to me on Monday. Tom
  15. Well......... I thought I could look it up in the Navigation Supplement Manual, but that bit of info is not in there. I wonder if you have to go to the dealer to get it properly set by their computer??? I can check with them if you want. Tom
  16. Let me know if you still need directions on how to get to the setup screen. I'll check mine and let you know. Tom
  17. I think it's the driver side window that has the lines in mine (although mine is not a Silversport). I was told that the lines are for the keyless entry antenna on the RX. Don't know how true that is. They look similar to the lines in the back glass for the defroster or an antenna built into the glass. Hope that helps.
  18. I checked the Liftmaster website and you are correct. Your "LEARN" button is under the cover where the light bulb is. The button appears to be right next to where the wires from the wall switch connect to the drive unit. Tom
  19. You're welcome. I did not know they were connected either until I dropped a coin in my cigarette lighter socket. You will enjoy this site. I know I have learned a lot from the group. Glad to help. Tom.
  20. RX300 Coach, how old is your garage door opener? What brand and model number is it? This info may help me find out more if you don't find the button. Tom
  21. Extended warranty prices are like window stickers. The prices are not solid. You should be able to negotiate somewhat. Tom
  22. I bought a 2001 RX300 all wheel drive with the navigation package that includes the HIDs at my dealership more than a year ago. It had 21,000 miles on it. I paid $31,900 and it was certified. I am certain you could get what you are looking for in a certified vehicle at Lexus of Dayton in Ohio if you are willing to travel. They are good on price, but will negotiate off of listed prices. Check their website if you are interested. Lexus of Dayton Tom
  23. Check your cigarette lighter. Does it work or is it also broken. If it does not have power, it sounds like your fuse has blown. The same fuse controls both in my car. Check it out. Tom.
