  1. Put a socket on the bolt for the idler pulley and use a breaker bar. Push the breaker bar to the right to swing the pulley down and release the belt tension. Tom
  2. Interesting. That's a different menu system from my 2001 RX. Tom
  3. You can use white lithium grease. Or you can use a light oil. No, don't use motor oil. That's too thick. A light sewing machine oil works nice. And Colin's right, always go up with the dirt. Tom
  4. I agree. Sounds like the mast has gotten dirty. I clean mine with window cleaner and a paper towel before I lubricate. Tom
  5. Have you checked to make sure that the connector is tight on the back of the HVAC controls? Then,I would also check to make sure you are getting power through the connector. After that, I'm lost.
  6. I don't think mine has an auto button. Maybe that was new in the 330s. I have noticed mine seems to be dimmer in the colder weather. Tom
  7. You would be suprised what a good GC or MAS/SPEC can identify. I am a Chemical Engineer, so I am familiar. Do you watch CSI? Tom
  8. Hhhmmmmm... Number 10 is normally the culprit. Do you have an ohmeter/voltmeter? If so, check to see if you have any voltage in your cigarette lighter. If you do not, then pull the fuse (#10) and see if there is a direct short in your cigarette lighter assembly. Once we get this info, we'll go farther. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions. Tom
  9. Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension Here's a link to a page in the UK. Soarer TT suspension link
  10. Interesting... My manual says that the viscous coupling takes the same lube as the rear diff. I have a 2001 RX AWD. Thoughts? Tom
  11. OK. Which fuse exactly did you change? Tom
  12. Also, I forgot to mention (I apologize if you already knew this), are your headlights on when you are testing your glovebox light? Your headlights must be on before the light will come on. Tom
  13. Great! Glad I could help. I'm curious....what was it telling you?
  14. OK. No luck with what?? Power to cigarette lighter or power to HVAC controls? Does your cigarette lighter work now and your controls are still broken?
  15. Do you know if your switch and fuse are both good??
  16. There you go. All of these replys add up to a definitive maybe.
  17. I saw pictures of the possible new Landcruiser recently on Autospies.com. I would bet that Lexus will make a new version of the LX out of this. It would make sense. Here's a link to the story on Autospies. What do you think? New LX possibly???
  18. I think I found it. Let me know if this is what you are looking for. Also, I hope I do this link right. I'll check it after I post it. Tom Link to Japanese Soarer Warning codes on Australian Lexus Soarer Club website
  19. Since you have a 300 you may need to replace your distributor o-ring. That could be where your leak is coming from. Or, it could be the valve cover. Tom
  20. The power steering pump cannot leak onto the alternator in the 300. However, if your distributor o-ring is leaking is can leak down onto the heat shield and then drip onto the alternator.
  21. Are you absolutely sure that your cigarette lighter fuse is good?? Do you have power to your cigarette lighter?? When that fuse blows, the climate control does not function. Tom
  22. Yes, that is probably a good thing. I have the factory service manuals for the '97 SC300/400 and there is a section devoted to this. Since it is both seats, it is my opinion that it is probably not the heaters themselves inside the seats. It is probably something common to both. The service manual lists the following items to check. 1. ST HTR fuse on relay block 4 2. IG Main Relay on relay block 4 3. Seat Heater switch 4. Wire Harness 5. Seat Heater This is the order you should check them. Start with the fuse, and let me know if it is good. Tom
  23. My RX300 takes approximately 4 quarts of fluid when I do a drain and refill. I think it may call for 4.2 quarts or something like that in the manual. The transmission drain plug takes a 10mm hex drive to remove it. You will also want to replace the crush washer (metal gasket) when you do this so that you can be sure to prevent leaks. The RX calls for Toyota Type IV and that is all I have used.
  24. I just bought some new Toyo tires a month ago for my SC300. After that, I noticed a vibration when driving at 45 MPH or above. I have moved the tires around to try to isolate which is the problem, but have not been able to find it. The tires have been rebalanced, but that did not help. The tire shop says that it is not the tires, that it is the universal on the driveshaft. I am not convinced. I am very convinced that the vibration started when I got the new tires. Here's my question - can the driveshaft (or something else) cause this vibration all of a sudden and how can I test for it? Any other ideas? I spend 2.5 to 3 hours in my car everyday at highway speed, so I am pretty in tune with its operation. I think I may go back to the tire shop and tell him I'll pay him to mount a new set. If the vibration is still there, I eat the labor. If the vibration is gone, he takes care of it. Thoughts?? Tom
