  1. I found a local Toyota dealer was actually more competitive to work on my Lexus than local places. You are wise to ask before deciding.
  2. The wires in the trunk broke once when my wife was driving the car. Terrible performance and she had to take it out of overdrive to get it to run on the highway. The white wire was completly broken and 1/4" from the other end. After I fixed it once and it broke again, I left the wirepack out of the hinge. IF the "R" light is illuminated then it might be this problem, if not, it's not. I must agree with whoever suggested it above that get the thing on a computer and start from there. In a situation like this, I would take the car to a local Toyota dealer that knows what they are doing. Stay away from Lexus dealers are they will attach a vacuum to your wallet and they have a good one. If the Toyota dealer is owned by the same people as the Lexus dealer, they won't touch it but look for one that isn't. Might be something very simple. Fixing the wire is really pretty easy and many people here could talk you through fixing the wire. I guess we need to know if the "R" light comes one when you press the brake.
  3. That is sick Craig, never thought I'd see a LS400 as "The General."
  4. Hampton Roads, VA
  5. try http://www.lexls.com/ very good and well organized.
  6. Ah yeah, as we go along. All for fun and knowledge.
  7. Oh please, just put a GPS in there and check it.
  8. see my thread LS4400 for sale. Thread was inspired by this one. I saw a 91 perfect asking 25. Ahhh SRK , you know how it is. I doubt he meant funny ha ha.
  9. K, glad you decided to hang with LOC. I have learned a lot of stuff and met many people who share Lexus knowledge freely. We drank some beer in Vancover, LeBatt Blue if I remember correctly.
  10. Listen to Steve as he is exactly right on this one. It is a black valve which screws into the PS pump (access from below) and it has 2 vacuum lines at the other end. Mine all of a sudden started smoking and putting out a cloud like that at work is embarrasing to say the least. As a result, I stayed and worked late. Once that got old, I fixed it the easy way. I plugged the lines and vacuum hoses since it does what it needs. When I have the time and motivation, I'll put in the plug.
  11. Hey Billy, yeah probably kept in a garage. I think it looks pretty nice for the price. I just saw another one today http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/2008213946.html another white car which mine is as well.
  12. I came across this on our local craigslist. This is exactly like mine and looks pretty nice for the $$$. Always nice to have comparisions. http://norfolk.craigslist.org/pts/2006762559.html
  13. My Autozone hood shock STILL work great, so that is 7 years on them.
  14. Check with a Toyota dealer as they do it a lot cheaper than Lexus. If the Toyota dealer also owns a Lexus dealer, they won't do it so keep that in mind. Hey, I've been to Vancouver, nice city.
  15. 90
  16. The timing belt story was good and I learned some things. I fought with one of them on a Ford Cortina one time. Regarding the Autozone inside story, I also appreciate that. Always nice to have information no matter how distastful you may find it. I rarely use Autozone but they do have a very nice tool lend policy. I have used them a couple of times for that. I usually go to Advance as it is close. I would guess their parts are comparable to Autozone. NAPA is probably one of the best.
  17. I have been using Dex3 or 4 with no problems, in fact I swear it leaks less now.
  18. Live and learn. It really is interesting the progressive assembly mentioned above. I guess they figured they were not likely to ever wear out. Usually, they don't but that is a really good reason to change your differential fluid on a regular basis, especially for you high speed runners.
  19. My 1990 LS400 is still my favorite car to drive. Can't quite put a finger on it but whenever I start to think about selling it, I drive it and then I can't. Haven't ever driven a 430 or 460, just my wife's ES330 which is no where near close.
  20. Disconnect the battery for 3 days then hook it back up and see if it starts. If it does then you have a voltage draw, if not it is the battery.
  21. Now that you mention it, it has been awhile. I joined right after I bought my 1990 LS400 and I still drive the car every day except in the summer since the AC is broken. Still looks good inside and out and still drives perfectly. I have replace the struts (torsion bars), one rear caliper, one upper ball joint. I love this car even though it will be an antique in about 4 years.
  22. I would be shocked to hear you have to remove the entire carrier. Seems to me you should be able to disconnect the axle through the differential. I know on the Cadillac I had, I opened the pumpkin and easily disconnected the axles there then just pulled them out. Exhaust stuff always worries me as those parts are difficult to work with unless you are replacing everything. Denny
  23. With the way the roads are now a battery gets bounced around a lot. Although it is unusual for that new a battery to go bad it certainly is not unheard of as they are just a thing. The LS400 engine draws a lot of juice to start. An internal short in the battery might not show up on a voltage test but might on a load test. I'd take the battery back and ask for a new one.
  24. If you have time to text message your girtlfriend when responding to a call, the call obviously isn't that important. Being a cop is about the only immunity to traffic laws still out there.
  25. it probably is the correct term, I just haven't heard it used much. Same meaning I'm sure.
