  1. I was reading some books at the library on aerodynamics. It says that using a front air dam saves gas because it lowers the coefficient of drag more than the frontal area. Not only that but it will increase downforce on the car allowing it to corner faster because less air on the bottom or car creates suction. The same goes with the optional oem spoiler and wing. The Lexus website says that with the optional rear spoiler drag coefficient is reduced from 0.32 to 0.31
  2. There's Chilton. Found this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2424405349 It covers a whole mess of import cars including the sc300. It probably won't give you all the information you need. There's also the compact disc repair manuals on ebay. I bought one and sure it tells you all the specifications and shows you all the wiring diagrams, but there's not enough step by step diagrams to procedures like changing oil and such.
  3. 126.01 is probably a little below regular price. www.mkiv.com has links: http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manualtt/coolin...stem/index.html and http://www.mkiv.com/manual/manual.htm First one shows a typical layout of the Toyota Repair Manual for Supra. Second one shows costs of repair manuals. $60 + $85 for boths books is $145.
  4. People say there could be electrical problems leading to overheat. But the thing is that you are supposed to get extra horsepower at the high rpms because the fan belt is going so fast at 6000 rpm. I read something that said the mechanical fan has this rpm limit. If the pulley is going any faster than a certain rpm, it won't go any faster. It's kind of like pedaling a bicycle and letting go of the pedals and the wheels turn but the pedals aren't. I'm guessing on the old cars there wasn't that type of fan so at high rpms the fan would go at high rpms too. You probably will get some extra horsepower but I'm not sure if 10-15 will be it. If you think of the hybrid engines it is a gas motor that powers a capacitator that runs an electric motor. It's very efficient. That means if you take the sc300 gas motor to run the alternator a bit more and then run the electric fan, it'll be more efficient than the mechanical fan. So yes you will get more hp but not sure how much.
  5. WooHoo! I won the auction. It costed a dear 126.01 LoL! the other guy outbidded everyone and I didn't know what price the max was at so I chose 126.01 and the other guy bidded at 126.00. So guys, start saving your pennies!
  6. Gah! There's one for sale on ebay. I'm trying to get it but so many bleeps outbid me! Please don't bid on it ok? And when I do get it you can message me and I'll scan some parts for ya!
  7. I'm not sure if carbonfiber/fiberglass hoods count as a bodykit, but there's two website I've found that have the capabilites of selling it. Importfan.com and sc400tuner.com It seems they ain't selling it b/c not enough demand? Think you can help me and email them to go and sell the hoods?
  8. If you go to www.goodyeartires.com and look for tires on your car, The gt4 has 4 stars on wet weather, max of 5. That means there's better tires out there, but that still shouldn't mean the gt4 should lose traction at 60mph. Maybe if you were to accelerate during a turn or the tires are low on tread or alignment is off or tire inflation. I doubt it is weight distribution because even if the rear end is lighter than the front, the frictional force is pretty much some coefficient x the weight on the tire.
  9. Whoops. Locations are below names. Heh. What I mean is that there should be a list of locations of members. That way it'll be easier to set up meets and do stuff.
  10. Wouldn't it be nice have a page that shows where everyone is at instead of clicking on every members name?
  11. I've never tried it. It'd be nice if it works, but I don't think it will give you 20 hp increase. The chip might give 20 hp on a v12 engine. But seriously, if the chip did give 20hp increase for $25 that would be the most cost effective mod out there. It'll top out a turbo for value. Even if the chip works like the piggybacks you're only gonna get maybe 2 hp increase. What it is supposed to do is alter the air/fuel ratio so you get more power at the cost of fuel economy. But then again that's only if it does work. If you read the FAQ on the action page it says "What is this Device? IT is a resistor chip that gives out a constant reading of air temperature to your ECU." I'm guessing this device will alter the signal to the ecu telling it that the air is cooler than what it actually so the engine will inject more fuel into the combustion chamer. This is because when air is cooler it is more dense and would contain more air (so most likely more oxygen). To compensate for all that extra oxygen more fuel is needed to prevent too lean of a mixture. So basically this chip is supposed to make your car use more gas for that extra hp increase. In my opinion I wouldn't buy it. Then again, I'm not a boy genius. Maybe you should email the seller and see how it works and stuff. And see if you can uninstall the device if you don't like it.
  12. Hmm... http://planetsoarer.com has the BFI (big ***king intake). It's basically a do-it-yourself cold air somewhat ram intake. The site claims a 17hp increase. It costs less than 20 dollars. This is for the sc300 and 400. A knowledgeable person here would also recommend a torque convertor. It won't give you horsepower but it'll shift gears faster and maybe it won't rob as much hp as oem. An exhaust might help in conjunction with the intake. Although you might not get as much with exhaust, it'll sound faster (gets in your head). You can also try camshafts for exhaust. There might be cam gears for sc400, not sure, but there are for sc300. Those are basically most of the major N/A upgrades.
  13. Alright. I'll see if I can check plugs and fuel pressure on Monday. I have an auto tech class and maybe they can show me how to use the tools.
  14. I was reading an article on hesitation and it says that if you have it at 4000-7000 rpm or wide open throttle on Nissan 300ZX then it could be faulty spark plugs. It also says that excessive oil consumption can coat spark plugs. The previous owner of my sc said it eats up a lot of oil. Not only that but when I first drove it at night the lights would dim and radio would cut off when I touched the brakes. I ended up cleaning the battery terminal and connector and it helped but it still dims the headlights a bit. So could it be oil coated spark plugs and lack of voltage to them?
  15. My sc300 has 130k miles and for some reason I drove it this morning and after about 10 minutes I started to notice that the car would jerk once every second when I put 2/3rd to full throttle one 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th gears. 1st gear it's too hard for me to tell. It starts happening right at 3000 rpm and continues all the way up. Any ideas on what the problem is? Is this called hesitation? I did switch to mobil 1 about 500 miles ago but the level is between min and max. About 800 miles ago my car would shake at idle when I first start the car up in the morning. It would go away after 15 seconds on startup. I checked air filter and it is clean. I took out the air intake to the throttle body and I cleaned that up and still the car jerks a bit. It feels as if the car is moving forward and backwards when it jerks.
  16. Ab-Flug emailed me that thier wing spoilers are out of production. Not only that but it's so hard to find a lot of websites that sell body kits for sc. I usually find the Kaminari body kit. Personally, I find the front end nasy. It looks like some sort of alien. I guess you would like it if you want your car to be out of this world. Hehehe...
  17. Went to Fremont Toyota in California. I was reading about the 90915-20004 oil filter for Ls400s and sc400s. I asked them to get me one and they gave me a 90915-YZZB5 filter. This filter is supposed to be the low grade filter but it still says made in Japan. I got it for $5.41. I also bought air filter 17801-07020 for $21.56. That seems like a lot. Carson Toyota quoted me for $12.00- air filter. But then there's shipping to put in. There's a Magnussen's Lexus across the street but I haven't yet set foot there.
  18. My brother found out there's an MR2 meet every week in Union City. Anyone know if there's Lexus meets in Northern California?
  19. you can't just take the gte turbos and stick them in the ge motor. That is if you only want good looks. :whistles:
  20. I'd do 4000 miles. People say do the 3000 mile change, but this is synthetic and it costs a lot. 4000 shouldn't clog up the oil filter would it now. And the Lexus sc300/sc400 repair manual says to do an oil change @ 7000 miles if driven nicely and @ 3750 if driven severely(i.e. stop/go traffic, heavy loads on engine). I remember reading a website (could be a bogus one), that tells you to drain and refill oil and oil filter after 2000 miles from the first synthetic oil change. That means if you switched to synthetic at 120 000 miles, then at 122 000 miles you should do an oil change. I'm guessing this is because synthetic cleans all that gunk from conventional oil and gets dirty real quick.
  21. There this one website www.spoilerdepot.com They say they have a 97-01 OEM wing that fits all 92-01 sc300/400s. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bolt placements. If you can I'd go to the person and look at the spoiler and see where it bolts on and see if you can drill holes on your trunk.
  22. No. I just switched to mobil 1 on my sc300 with 130000 miles. It's been 200 miles since and nothing wrong yet. The only problem with mobil 1 is that it costs a lot and the Lexus website says that they don't recommend switching back to conventional after synthetic has been used. Also if you use Mobil 1 make sure you used a good oil filter or else there's no point in using Mobil 1. My auto tech teacher also told me that if you want some performance gain, change all other fluids to synthetic if possible (manual transmissions can use synthetic oil, same with differential). By the way, I just went to Costco and they sell Mobil 1 a case of 6 for $24. That's $4 a quart. Not bad.
  23. The 92-94 sc300 have a w58 manual transmission I think. Same goes for the older toyotas. Maybe they made short throw shifters for the older supras. Would those fit?
  24. So where do you obtain a short throw shifter for 92 sc300? TRD site says shifter is only for the JZZ30 ,94.1 and up. Someone posted that the short shifters on ebay are just shifters that are cut off. Are there any sites or dealers out there?
