  1. Well, that thing is not a splash guard, it's a heat shield. I guess it could work as a spash deflector, but I doubt any water would hit it if the intake is that much in the engine. That's because the Injen intake isn't cold air. Only the RD(race division) series at Injen are cold air. You could try and get the intake and make some piping to draw air to the intake. I don't know if that will fit. I have no idea. It could be that the 96 has a different air flow sensor? There's this other intake system. It doesn't look as stylish as the Injen, but it costs less than 20 dollars and you'll probably get a bigger performance increase. It's called the BFI (Big Intake). You can check it out at http://planetsoarer.com Just read up on it and you just might go that way. If you go BFI, you can save lots more money compared to Injen and you can use the 150 or so dollars to save up on that turbo.
  2. Maybe you should get a less expensive used car that doesn't accelerate and handle as well as the sc300, I'm thinking a used Honda Accord Coupe 4cyl 5spd. It's probably just as reliable too. That way you'll better appreciate the sc when you get it. :whistles:
  3. If there is no condensation in the headlight fixture, then you can go ahead and seal it with some clear tub caulk. I'd recommend that you take the headlamp out. To do that open the hood and loosen a nut on top of the headlamp. There's two more on the back of the fixture. To get there, you'll need to take out two screw/nuts. Take a look at this link: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~irwige/BFI3.htm Before you take out the headlamp you should put some masking tape on the bumper to prevent scratching. It took me forever to get the headlamps out. I had to literally wiggle it for 10-15 minutes until it got out. The headlamp should have this S shape looking tube on the bottom the headlamp fixture. If it looks broken, that could be a reason for condensation. If you look at the lens and if it looks dirty from the inside, this site: http://www.lexuspros.com/tutorial1.htm gives info on cleaning it.
  4. Yeah I bought the toyota/denso filter. I'm gonna cut a BFH (Big Hole) in my airbox soon because I plan to keep my sc for a long time.
  5. I was reading all the articles on planetsoarer.com and I read in: http://planetsoarer.com/panelfilter/panelfilter.htm that the K&N filter is somewhat better in the centimeters of water manometer test compared to the Toyota OEM filter. This means that there is less vacuum behind the air filter, which denotes higher rate of air passing through. However, I scrolled down to the bottom and "At the next Australian Lexus Soarer Club dyno day (genuine filter made the most power!) " Besides that, I'm not sure if the K&N has better filtration than the OEM. Another article (forgot which one) says that the K&N filter loses some filtration after every cleaning. I just finished making the BFI setup, except I have to cut the airbox (my dad might get *BLEEP*ed off at me because it costed $50 dollars to replace it on ebay). Anyways, now with the BFI setup, there's gonna be some air ramming into the filter. Do any of you know which filter will hold up to the beating? Will all that said: Is it better to buy Toyota filter and replace every year or so, or get an aftermarket filter and recharget kit?
  6. I was wondering if there are any good ignition wires out there. This is for the sc300's 2jz-ge's motor. I've searched the forums and only a few discussions came about. I found these Nology "HOT wires" and I also ran into these Magnecore ignition wire website and they say their product is realistically better. I also heard of NGK ignition wires. I'm not too sure which product(s) actually improve performance, but post something if you've tried aftermarket ignition wires. It might be true that the performance gains from an ignition wire aren't the best hp/$ value, but then again I've been reading a ton of posts on exhausts and intakes and how they give you "10-15" extra horsepower. But the thing is that the dynometer is used when the car is standing still and the graphs also show a performance loss under 3500 rpm and an increase at the higher rpms. So unless you like revving 1st and 2nd gear all the way up to 59 mph with that added boost in speed and sound, I'd think ignition wires are a good deal.
  7. I was wondering if there are any good aftermarket ignition wires for a 2jz-ge motor. I have a 92 sc300, but I can't find a good one. My bro has an mr2 and he got these Nology Ignition wires and he notices a higher responsiveness in his 5s-fe motor. Besides that, are there any other good mods for engines that doesn't have to deal with exhausts and intakes? I'm not the kind of person who goes up to redline everyday.
  8. Here's a picture of the spoilers: Type 1: Type 2:
  9. I was wondering if anyone has installed an AB FLUG type-1 or type-2 spoiler. They come from Japan and are for the soarer, but I don't know how it's gonna be on a 92 sc300. Besides that, I was wondering if anyone has switches their cooling fan to an electric type. I want to install one, but I'm not sure if the alternator will keep up with the demands of the fan. Please post some feedback if you have any of these.
  10. weapon r makes this cold airbox intake system. That one should be better than the injen. But if you look at it closely you could probably make it yourself and save a buck or two :D
  11. actually I found this link: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html#023 and I scrolled down to wheels and it says the largest ever attempted 18 inchers are 11 inches wide.
  12. If you look in the previous topics and posts here, you'll probably find out how wide it should be. I remember reading an article about what's the biggest wheel you can get in there, and I believe it was 20 inches, but I forgot how wide it could be. I'm sure it's more than 8 inches. The eibach springs are only going to lower front and back 1 inch. That is not a lot of lowering, but I've read that it's the only set of springs that will keep your wheels in proper alignment so that there won't be too much inside tire wear. So the Eibach springs and 18" wheels will be fine. Springs do sacrifice ride quality but I'm not sure how much. The Injen Intake should give you good sound, but It's not a cold air intake. That means your engine will be sucking in a lot of warm air. You also don't want to trust the dynos at the Injen website because the videos they show you have the hood open so that cooler air can get to the intake, but in real life you ain't driving with your hood open. Exhaust is good, but just remember to find out how it will sound like because exhausts are pretty expensive. Well sorry if I haven't answered all your questions, but there were no replies so I felt like doing one. Just use the search feature here.
  13. I was thinking of taking out my spare tire out of my sc300 to take off some weight. But since the spare is pretty heavy and it's in the trunk, would taking it out affect the handling of the car? The weight distribution is already around 55/45, so if I take the wheel out it'll probably be around 56/44. Do you think adding a spoiler would help?
