  1. Is your check engine light on? It does sound like the starter was not disengaging but that's just a guess. You could have also gotten a bad starter. These things do happen. Hopefully nothing was damaged with that noise. All I can suggest is that you guys tear everything back down and bench test the starter.
  2. First off do you have a check engine light on? If so read the codes. If not your AFM ( air fuel meter )/ MAF ( mass air flow sensor ) might be bad.
  3. This should give you everything you need. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/661002-radio-removal-instructions-needed.html
  4. Sorry this is not the for sale forum plus as a new member your not allowed to post a for sale ad until you contribute something to the form.
  5. Since your air/fuel ratio is not correct the performance and mileage will definitely suffer. It could be O2 sensors but maybe you need to clean your MAF sensor. They make a spray specifically for cleaning them that you can pick up in any auto parts store. I think CRC makes it.
  6. Of course failing O2 sensors can cause the car to act strangely as well as other things. Check this site out to learn how to read the codes yourself http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html
  7. It should be on the bottom of the bumper support bar.
  8. If your sure that all the brake bulbs are working it might be the tail light failure sensor gone bad.
  9. Your welcome, you will probably have to go to a dealer to program a key since you don't have a master key already. Here are the program instructions anyway though. Lexus key programming.txt
  10. Gad you got it worked out. Was the price in US dollars or another currency? This is the key you have which is a valet key. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-OEM-FACTORY-BLANK-SUB-KEY-1998-2000-LS400-/231784797782?fits=Year%3A1998%7CMake%3ALexus%7CModel%3ALS400&hash=item35f7735656:g:Q5UAAOSw8d9UtVRq&vxp=mtr This is the key you need and pay special attention to the FCC ID number. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Keyless-Entry-Key-Fob-Remote-For-a-1998-Lexus-LS400-3BTN-Trunk-Short-Blade-/151916158258?fits=Year%3A1998%7CMake%3ALexus%7CModel%3ALS400&hash=item235ee89d32:g:EigAAOSwnipWbu8c&vxp=mtr
  11. What's the glass? Did you break a bulb?
  12. Please provide the info requested by other posters so we can try to help you out.
  13. I'm not suprised that the dealer is stumped. Those new techs have probably never had to diagnose the older cars and especially when they don't have the check engine light to guide them.
  14. I meant to say a chip in your key. Do you have a pic of the other side of the key? I have a 3 button key with lock, unlock and an alarm. Your key looks like it might be a valet key. Can you open the glove box with that key?
  15. You do have an engine immobilizer in your car. You should also have a key that has the immobilizer chip in it. Without the chip the car will not start. Sorry to ask but are you absolutely sure your key has no chip?
  16. Good luck with the repair.
  17. Silver hood in Phily for $200 http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi Silver fender in Voorhees, NJ for $250 http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi The bumper will be a little more tricky so I'll let you look. I would ask around to see if yours can be fixed. You'll be surprised what ppl can do with a plastic welder. http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi You can buy the headlight case from eBay and transfer over the internals. Are you sure your radiator support is not bent?
  18. It will be very hard to find those parts with the same paint code. Especially on the east coast.
  19. We definitely need picks of the car with the hood /bonnet raised.
  20. You didn't need to buy both sensors, just the one that has failed.
  21. Your code points to the bank 2 sensor 1 which is the air fuel ratio sensor so if you just replace that I'm pretty sure that you will be OK.
  22. Here's the sensor I believe you need. http://www.amazon.com/Denso-234-9009-Oxygen-Sensor/dp/B000C5YCZ2
  23. Just did some reading on your code and it seems that the code is for bank 2 sensor 1 which is the air fuel ratio sensor on top of the engine near the back on your exhaust manifold. Maybe you got the numbers confused but you replaced the wrong sensor and that's why the code keeps coming back.
  24. I would think it's the sensor rather than the circuit.
