  1. To me it looks like the 93-4 has more dominant horizontal slats where as the 90-2 has horizontal and vertical slats. I should have worded it better. I'll see if I can find some pics....
  2. Steve, 99's tutorials are amazing...they need to be posted for all the owners with 95-00 LS's!! Nice work 92Lex! ;)
  3. One extremely happy Lexus owner here! :D 1995 LS400 with 238,1xx miles. The only non maintinance item to go was the power steering pump at 210k. Other than the pump, nothing but the most reliable service has come from this car. I don't do anything aprticularly special to the car...just brakes every so often and regular engine oil changes and tranny fluid changes every 5k miles(as per maintinance guru, Agent 99). This car doesn't have a single stamp in the service history...not even the commplimentary 30day check up! lol We also have an ES300 that has the same stroy as above, but it only has 125k. Both are very good cars, and we will buy Lexus again and again! I would not be so hard on a car that you buy pre owned; you do not know what it has been through before you owned it. There are numerous different things that could have happened to the car while in the previous owner's care; like you said nobody takes care of things like yourself which is very, very true! And, it could very well just be a problematic one, and just bacuse it has all of it's dealer service stamps, doesn't mean that the car is good for life. IMO, most of the things they do at the service intervals are worthless(like inspecting the chassis, topping off fluids, flushing various fluids) except for 60k(I believe they do plugs and wires/coils here. I might have these wrong though!)) and 90k(service timing belt and componets). No doubt the Jeep is better off road...the RX is on a unibody, car platform with a small, non-muscular engine. ;)
  4. :cries: haha, ok blake, you can have this one. <_< ← LMAO :P ^isn't that cool! lol
  5. Good deal! Welcome to the club and congrats on your new car! ;)
  6. What error code did AutoZone give you(so that someone with a repair manual can look it up)? If the cel is still on, unplugging the battery will turn the light off for a few miles, but if there is a real problem, the light will come back and the diagnosing process contiunes! I'd try tightening the gas cap and unplugging the battery first, and if it comes back, you know the problem is elsewhere on the car.
  7. 90-92 body parts will definantly fit on your car. I'm not positive, but I think 93-4 should also fit; I'm certain the grill was modified and the rims are different-I think that was as far as the exterior refreshening went.
  8. Congrats and welcome! :D Sounds like you got a pretty good deal! The main trouble spots on these cars are suspension bushings(lca, uca, strut rod, et. all), dry rotten antenna mast, and stereo lcd's that look like hieroglyphics and then burn out. It looks like leaky ps pumps aren't too uncommon; mine went at 215k. Other than these cars are very, very trouble free! Well, mine is anyways...1995 LS400-238,1xx miles. I just do brakes and fluids, and my car is great(had her up to 125mph for a little while this weekend and still got 26 mpg on straight hwy mileage. They maybe old, but they certainly aren't fragile!)! B) Enjoy the car...I know I'd be standing on my head waiting for it to come in! lol
  9. Welcome!! :D I'm in the same boat-my carpet looks like crap from tons of stains. I don't think it'd be that hard to change-front seats can be out in 10 minutes, the console is easy to dismantle, and all of the trim just snaps in to place I believe, but my LS has the heel and toe, floor mounted accelerator, so that makes me nervous about the job. An upholstry shop told me it is a $1k job for my '95 LS4. I don't know where you could get the carpet. I've searched(the net) before with no luck. :(
  10. Steve, that's true, but you are making your judgements on real data from owners complied by the likes of Consumer Reports, JD Power & Assoc, intellichoice, edmunds, and the list continues that all favor Lexus's excellent reliability history. RX in NC, did you buy your RX brand new?
  11. Try this: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=9825& . I would imagine the programming would be the same for 95-97?.?.? Wanda listed the same FCC ID, so I think it should work.
  12. I guess if you like them then why not? But, I'd never ever spend $100k on 2 Caddys! Why not a LS430 UL and ES330?:whistles: Atleast Lincoln has the decentcy to knock atleast $10k off the sticker! I'm not sure what Cadillac uses-their spec sheet isn't all that good, but the way the describe it makes it sound like air struts because they talk about how it controls body roll, hard braking/accelerating, and ride control. They call it Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension(CVRSS 2.0). I looked at Lincoln's spec sheet for the TC, and it only has air in the rear. PP Lexus has the air struts for $435 per rear strut and $800 per front strut. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...995&catalogid=1 .
  13. I'm guessing either a roof spoiler or chrome strip over the rear license plate. I'm leaning towards the latter though.:whistles:
  14. I've got those exact same tires, and I love them! Though, I find that they can be a little noisey on some rough roads, but overall, they are good performers and very low maintinance tires(they wear like nothing I've seen before-so even!, always in balance, and align beautifully!)! The previous owner of my car said he's bought the Energies a couple of times because he got 65k on his last two sets of them(mainly hwy miles though)! :o I'll probabaly get them again when these wear out.
  15. They do. Here's Caddy's spec sheet: http://www.cadillac.com/cadillacjsp/models...p=chassis&year=
  16. Cool!! Looks like I learned something new also!! :D Why didn't the government just armor up a Lincoln?? The TC already RWD and has a beefy platform. Did they rework everything on the DeVille or just put the Caddy frame on something more capable? I wonder what kind of engine they have under the hood? :whistles: I saw an armored '04Lincoln TC in Car and Driver...it was pretty cool, but they said how slow it is because of all the armor!
  17. It was a '97 Eddie Bauer 4x4...very cool truck! I'm not sure if the new Expe's have that option or not. I never knew that the air struts lasted that long!! :o :D
  18. I just took a trip with my uncle in his '01 Town Car Cartier(it's got air suspension). I found the ride extremely pleasent and not floaty. It's pretty low mileage-like 35k, so that might have something to do with it. I drove it, and you can tell that this car is not meant to perform at all! lol You have to take turns really slow. Overall, I was very impressed with this car; it was very quiet inside if they'd only refine the 4.6-it's a little raspy when you get on it, it'd be a real champ! I was suprised at how small the driver's space was though. There was a ton of headroom(which my LS doesn't have), but there was next to no legroom though. The '04 TC(even more room with the power pedals) is the most comfortable thing I've driven though! :) I think the most recent(like 98-02..or 03?) Continental was a great looking car(kinda like a TC for those under 60! lol)! I've heard that it is small inside though. Steve, thanks for the LS air ride insight! ;) Did your dad ever change his struts to get 150k? If he didn't, that's not bad at all!! 90, that rear air suspension steup sounds similar to what was on our Expedition. It was called "Load Leveling" or something like that. I'm not sure if it was in the rear or all 4 corners.
  19. '90, makes some very good suggestions. I wanted a nav for my '95 LS, but like you, I don't like the aftermarket in-dash setups, so I bought the Garmin iQue3600. It was about $600 when I got it, but I think they've come down in price since then. I'm still trying to figure out why they are so cheap because they have tons of poi's, nice color screen, voice guideance, turn previews, all Palm OS functions, trip computer, and it recalculates your route if you skip a turn. And, it's very accurate. It's got very little memory from the factory-32 megs, so a larger card is a must. Here's a pic...
  20. It's not so much that they are troublesome; it's that the air struts cost $1,000 a piece, so you are looking at $4k just in parts when they wear out which is usually indicated by corners(of the car...where the struts are) sagging when the car is off. I wish my car had the air suspension because I always have a lot of junk in my trunk, so it's usually low in the rear, and the height control would raise the car to a normal height; plus, I hear that air ride gives a super soft ride. Also, on the first gen air ride cars, they have a sport mode for the suspension. I don't know how well it works, but it sounds cool!! B)
  21. I think you are describing the brake pad wear light. You need new pads somewhere. ;)
  22. What happened to all of the pics in the gallery? I see approx. 50 pics of Steve's and Matt's cars. Is there anyway to add pics and/or have access to all of the old pics that were in there? :cries:
