i just learned that my failure of emission was caused by UNBURN FUEL. Can some one help tell me what's the cause of unburn fuel ? thanks

flash back: my ls400 is 94K miles, just finished changing timing belt kit, changed catalytic converters, just did a tune up, which the lazy tech. just change 8 spark plug, nothing else. Then I took it to the emission test again, and it faile again. I changed the catalytic converters. Most of you guys were right. My cat. converters were bad. I changed those and it fixed the NOx. the problem i have now is the HC, CO rise real high and the NOx dropped real low. what is the problem? what should I do to fix this? thanks

I just spoke with a tune up tech. He gave me a quote for $175.00, only for changing 8 new spark plugs. Is this right? How much would a tune up cost for ls400 1990? thanks

I don't have the receipt since I just got the car for only 1 week. I think I'm going to change all the fluid on the car and have the EGR valve and the catalic check out. thanks

Hi, thanks for all the reply. below is the result: HC is 171 while allowable was only 130 --->this was failed NOx was 1560 while allowable was only 905. --->this was failed. rpm was 1245 and allowable was 2500 CO was 0.43 while allowable was 0.83 CO+CO2 was 14.5 while allowable was 6.0 min. can you tell me what's wrong witht he car? the gas was premium, 1990 with 94k thanks alot.

Do you have the VIR printout they should of given you at the end of the test results? If you do then can you post the results on here....maybe I could give you an idea of what's wrong with your car (I'm a smog check tech). Octane does matter when it comes to a smog check. Hi, I just bought my ls400 1990 with 94k miles. It just failed the emission test. I couldn't believe it. why did it fail? How much will it cost for the repair? Can someone help me out on this? thanks John
