  1. What did I say? Is there not truth to my statement as sad as it sounds? You will be agreeing with me when that dirty bomb goes off in your area... I see your point though forum administrator my bad, all appologies.....oh and am I stereotyping? maybe... but sincerely I do wish for world peace believe it or not......
  2. You can always tow this into the nearest Lexus Dealer for a diagnostic check? Or a better import repair shop nearest to you....
  3. USA - BABY ALL THE WAY!!!!!!! Just for the record most fanatical religions bring about war that is shown throughout history... It is there way of life or the highway...Close minded, brain washed from birth, third world ignorant slaves to their fanatical religion and beliefs.. I understand it, and it is a shame... I believe terrorists need to get educated or eliminated plain and simple...referring to the muslim extremists that want to rid most of the world.....
  4. Wow that sucks I feel for you, so no sparks but engine turns.....Ecu maybe but dought it? Check your ignition wires and cables again..Here is what your wires should look like...my car is currently apart and it is a 1992 sc400. Ingition switch maybe and check all fuses.... full tank of gas used key to lock and unlock to clear anti-theft thought starter was problem beacuse it had weak starts and starter sounded like it ran own after starting fuel pump is running during cranking sequence have no fire at coils timing belt is good, changed 25k ago. (checked it during this servicing) when you turn the key, engine turns over at fast speed since new starter installed. Checked for fire at coils and have none. Currently trouble shooting ECU for proper signal for engine to fire. This thing is weird because it it intermittent; starts sometime, doesn't most of the time. Any suggestions?
  5. Headers and EGR blocker install next week on this same car, should be fun.......And maybe now this thread should read "Sc400 Electric fan swap with pic's" if the forum administrator would be so kind.......so others may read?
  6. Thanks I will give it a go... A.T.F. - automatic transmittion fluid....thanks. I was going to use transmittion fluid anyway but just needed to be re-assured, I swapped my hydraulic fan out to a dual electric flex-a-lite fan on my 1992 sc400 to free up horsepower, weight and room under the hood. I disabled the stock hydraulic pump by removing the star shaped vanes or spleens from inside the hydraulic fan pump and now I have no load on the pump it just free spins (yeah), but now I needed to fill the pump up with fluid half way to keep the main bearing lubed before pluging the in and out lines located at the block. Hear are some of my pics of my job if you are interested..... The pic of the funny looking nut splitter tool is because I stripped out the nut on the hydraulic pulley stud because it was reverse threading (lefty) and I did not know. I guess you can say I torqued the nut the wrong way. I also took a pictures of the two bolts the one is the replacement plug at the block, and the clean pic is of my engine running nos before the job started.. Oh and I did not need to remove all the plastic crap around the engine bay like shown in the pics for this job. I had thought I was originally going to have to remove the pump from the block and it ended up that I didn't. The only bolts on the pump I needed to access were directly behind the pump pulley to perform this job, and that is it the stars vanes slide right out. This job can be very simple...and the new dual fan mounts fit just right on the stock radiator, no drilling holes nothing... After thinking about plugging the oil lines at the block I reconsidered and used the fan tank and two hoses looped to allow for heat expansion and have the pump full of fluid all the time. If plugged at block and sealed, I feared the seals would give out and fail...
  7. Can you get dextron ATF at let's say pep boys, kragen, or auto zone, or is it dealer only... Never used it....
  8. Also make sure you have gas in the fuel tank!!!!!!!!!!! No I'm just kidding I am sure you do but by chance you could have a fuel pump problem or fuel delivery related problem as well. What does the engine do when you turn the car on to start, lights dim and nothing, engine turns over, doesn't turn over but hear something? Need to know the specifics to diagnos properly.....
  9. No crank then check the starter motor.
  10. Fella's just playing around with the title to the thread.... I was laughing too.....
  11. The answer to that is no, manuals tranny's you will find in the sc300 not sc400's.... Misunderstood your question....
  12. Got a 1992 sc400 I am modifing, need to refill the hydraulic pump fluid, wondering if I can use power steering fluid or transmittion fluid? ATP? Never looked into these fluids? Anyone? I am also going to list and show pics of some mods I recently did and am doing on my 1992 SC400. Just to help those that may be interested..
  13. Replace your head gaskets and waterpump and the car should run fine. Unless the engine doesn't turn over when you try to start I dought you need a new engine...Save the money these engines are solid even after overheating.... What were you thinking letting the car overheat like that, you must alway stop the car if the temp needle goes up or steam omits from the hood. Good luck with what ever path you choose.. Although, 50k motor installed for $2000 sounds like a great deal......
  14. Ok, the torque converter transfers the power to your engine then to the transmission - drive train - rear wheels. The stock torque converters are set a certain stall rate at production which tranfers the power accordingly, sort of like a clutch on a car is my best way to describe. Now, I am not an expert on the torque converters but I do know the basics...So my guess is Lexus set these stock torque converters on these sc's ls's400's thinking alot of seniors and old ladies were going to buy and drive. This flaw at production for a sports coupe limits the cars performance in a tremendous way 0-30mph and from a dead start... If you have ever driven or road in a Corvette, Camaro, Iroc, etc...you will notice they are pepy from a dead stop, throttle response is immediate well why you may ask is because they have a tight stall rate on their torque converters.. Cadilac's, Lexus's, Etc.. the opposite... I have been running the D.T.C. for a year on my sc400, and can drive the same as stock and can perform if needed now. With the new torque converter if you lighly press the gas and move forward it will still excellerate smoothly from a stand still, and if you press the gas pedal let's say half way you will probably spill your coffe on your lap, and jerk your neck back slightly and take off, and lastly if you go full throttle from a stand still you will spinout that one rear wheel since you are not running a limited slip differential. So it is just a matter of getting use to it that is all... I must let you all know that you will lose a little top end torque but not much, so your car will not be as fast eccelerating from lets say 60mph or more, but not a huge difference, maybe like the difference between using the ECT button and not when racing on the freeway. There is always a give and a take... But for these cars the take is so much better then the give.... These are simple terms and discriptions I am giving based on my personal experience with the torque converters.... One last example, have you ever been in the far right hand lane stopped at a red light and there is a car next to you on your left hand lane and when the light turns green you will need to hurry up and pass before the right lane closes up ahead? Well, with the stock torque converter on let's say the sc400, you submit, stop, turn on the blinker and wait for traffic wishing you had a faster car to pass before going. With the new torque converter just hit the gas and move ahead and pass with confidence. A nice secure feeling when you know the power is right there.....Man that just sounded like a commercial or advertisement for torque converters, oh well... Lastly, the car will still ride normally you just need to get use to the power at lowend....not a big deal, and should not affect mechanical reliabilty and or driving in the rain, except maybe at a stand still if you accidently give it too much gas from a stop. I have had my D.T.C. on now for a year and have had no problems or compaints to say about it what so ever, rain, etc..it's all good and also you will still be able to command a smoothe drive, so you won't give your mom, date or Wife a heart attack if they are driving in the car with you...... So again it is a great mod to get and I absolutely recommend it, if you enjoy and or what instant ecceleration.... I hope I have explained the torque converter now, because that was a story....see ya.....
  15. Mostly all these questions asked on this thread can be found on the intellexual.net website.... Check the SC section and also the photo gallery section, sick sc's........
  16. Look into a magnaflow catalytic converter for the sc400 they flow better then stock and do not cost as much, no difference in sound just performance and gas mileage. I have the magnaflow cat on my 1992 sc400 and love it...Oh I live in California, Santa Monica, and pass inspection just fine...
  17. 138mph in my 1992 SC400 driving from Los Angeles, California to Las Vegas...... Not including cars I went 170 or so in less then 6 seconds on this baby......lucky I did not die on that beast....
  18. Check the local junk yards to save money those hoses don't go bad that often but the pumps do, and when the pumps go the fluid leaks right down on to the alternator and for some reason the power steering fluid and the alternator don't play well together... Good luck...
  19. In my opinion the torque converter upgrade is the most important and dramatic performance mod you can and should do to make an sc400 perform like a sports car.....What it does is deliver instant torque to the rear wheels, and allows the sc to bolt off the line, wheels spinout instead of that slow wait an hour to get moving from a dead start stock sc400 torque converter....Night and Day. It is the best mod I did besides the nos.... If I were to start fresh on a stock sc400 the torque converter would be the first mod change I would do.... Est. costs: Dragon Torque converter $900, Lextreme.com $400 but you need to send your stock one in while your car is disabled. For installation a transmittion shop will probably charge no more then $300 to change the torque converters out....Expensive but very effective for 0-60mph times....
  20. Thanks I figured it out, remove the vains to the hydaulic oil pump re-seal and re-install, the pump will still functionnoramlly but with no load...I can plug the oil lines and remove all the hydraulic fan crap, oil cooler, rubber lines, and gain 10-20 hp, it's all good.... Thanks
  21. Hey people, by any chance does anyone on this forum know how to disable, remove, or deaden the hydraulic oil driven pump on a 1992 SC400. I am in the process of installing an electric fan and have removed the oil driven stock fan and all the assessories that go with it, but now I am at a stand still as to what to do with the hydraulic pump that runs on the serpentine belt. I know I can loop or bridge the two in/out oil lines to circle and allow easy oil flow and which in turn allows the pump to function normally, but my goal is to free up as much horsepower as possible and to remove or disable a pump I won't ever be using seems like the best choice to me. I am wondering if I can gut or disable the pump and or remove it and shorten the belt and not have the pump run at all and plug the two oil lines? That is what I want to do, now I know there is a sensor next to the pump that tells the ECU to activate or power the hydraulic pump, which then pushes the pressurised oil to drive the stock fan. Can the signal be deleted which deadens the pump completely? Does anyone out there even know what I am talking about and can relate to what I am saying and asking? I am looking for answers and can't find any on any of the other forums I am hoping good old Club Lexus can help me out on this. This electric fan change frees up horse power, frees up a lot of engine space and also allows you to remove about 25lbs of crap and weight. Please can anyone talk to me about this mod it is the final step that I am stuck with in completing this fan swap....
  22. I would rather not do business with Todd an Tm Engineering, any other suggestions?
  23. Ok, I have began changing out the stock hydraulic oil driven fan with a dual 2 inch flex-a-lite electric fan to free up space, horsepower and reduce front end weight. A question for someone, there are two oil lines coming out of the hydraulic oil pump located near the pulleys, I need to bridge those two lines so the oil flows easily through the in and out lines of the pump. However, I am wondering if the hydraulic oil pump can be permenantely disabled, I know there is a sensor which reads the oil temp and then sends a message to the ECU which then activates and powers up the Hydraulic fan pump. I would love to know if that pump powers anything else and can it be disabled permently. Here are some pics from today, my fingers are pointing to the soon to be bridged lines.
