  1. I need to know if the EGR can be successfully blocked on a USA LEXUS car without the ECU going nuts or the car running to rich, can it be done????? ANYONE......
  2. That is exactly what I am saying, so you better see it and believe it, because it is fact and truth, I kid you not.
  3. Yes small block Chevy's and Dodge muscle engines like the Hemmi are very good and strong motors as I had mentioned above, but I tell you they could not handle what I have been doing to my Lexus 4.0L V8 engine with 100,000+ miles which is nos for more than a year plus other mods. I talk to nos professionals regularly, these are people that build up American engines daily for professional and steer racing and they tell me the low down on nos and the stress and damaging affects it has on smaller engines and will wear out the larger American engines as well over time. They tell my my lexus motor and only a few mercedes motors are the few engines that can get away with what I am doing. We are talking about a 100hp instant stress on internal engine parts over and over again for a year now, no gradual excelleration as with normal excelleration in cars, the nos kicks and boom, both rear wheels start spinning. Again blue printing at production is the key for less imperfections and close to perfect fitting of internal parts, and so on. Even though these mechanics say the lexus V8 motors are superior in quality, they still own and drive and work on those power small and big block Chevy's and Fords. Why because they can suppport and put out huge HP, where as the smaller V8 Lexus motors are more challenging to build up and are small at 4.0, 4.3, size motors. Now, as far as the RX300 Lexus goes, I did not say the Lexus six cylinder motors are the best I said the lexus V8 motors are, as advertised in Auto museums in LA, and so on..... Fella's I also love the big and powerful American muscle engines and I know where you all are comng from, but facts are facts. Good day-
  4. Stock rear wheel horsepower is not important to me; if I want a sports car, I'd buy one that's designed to operate as so instead of heavily modding a car that isn't intended to do that. All I'm saying is that the 4.6 is very smooth and quiet and can last just as long as a 1uzfe. Is the 4.0 higher quality and more smooth than the 4.6? Most likely, and it should be becuase the cars that it comes in are tens and tens of thousands of dollars more expensive than the Fords. There is an old '96 Town Car on Ebay that has almost 700k miles on its original powertrain. You can name almost any car that you want, and if you take care of it, it will last a very, very long time. They might not "use" oil, but that doesn't mean that they don't leak. We have 2 Lexus cars; I'm speaking from experience. We've had several Fords that have been great cars. The things that break on the Fords don't break on Lexus, and the things that break on Lexus don't break on Fords. Six of one, half dozen the other, so drive whatever tickles your fancy! ← That is true if you maintain an engine and drive it normally it should last a long time. As far as the towncar and 4.6 ford, chevy vortec's and trinton motors are all good strong motors, the difference is that these engines are not blue printed at production as where the lexus IUZFE's are, that is the difference in wear and durability and smoothe operation. I used to be a Chevy and Ford man but discovered Lexus motors and there design and never looked back, and to me and many others it is the best. I have owned the Ford mustang with the 4.6L motor for what was a year and yes it is strong motor and should last well over 100,000 miles, my friend owns a lincoln navigator and yes it is a strong motor but other parts and the tranny's are not so reliable and in these American cars in my opinion and others. Unfortunately, American cars do not compare to the Lexus imports with longevity or reliability, even though I wish they did, that is fact.
  5. The ECU that you get is made for the same motor and tranny and year of the car ECU stock swaps do not connect. Stand Alone or a good piggy back are the only choices. ← Bottom line VVT swaps are not practical. I have not heard of any trying this. Usually you would buy an 98 or newer VVTI Engine and ECU and then transplant, that will give you the stock setup and no problems.
  6. The ECU that you get is made for the same motor and tranny and year of the car ECU stock swaps do not connect. Stand Alone or a good piggy back are the only choices.
  7. i dont mean to interrupt, buy out of curiocity what can that V160 handle? and isnt that for the 2jz motor, will a 2j tranny attatch to a 1uz motor? because ive been the market for a 400 for a few months to have as a project car, but i didnt want to be limited to what the transmission can handle ← The V160 is for 2JZ motor but a bell housing has been made for adaption for about $300. So a transplant is very doable. That tranny can handle 1000hp+ as witnessed in a massive supercharged Supra in Florida, the V160 is a super strong manual tranny.
  8. Can the Ford 4.6 motor handle almost double the stock RWHP, while running a 100hp nos system regularly for what is now going on over a year on my Lexus SC400 with a little over 100,000 miles on it? It is still running like new with outstanding compression in each cylinder, does not use oil, no breakdowns. I have seen a LS400 with 500,000 original miles no rebuilds and still running well. I tell you there is no better engine.
  9. Check out the Lextreme forum for supercharging that is has everything you need to know. I know they make supercharger setups in Australia like the Eaton Supercharger, but nothing yet in the US. Turbo's yes. If you have skills you can do it yourself, but remember the stock lexus can only handle around 450hp before you need to beef up the engine (forged pistons, rods) and tranny, conversion to the V160 manual, or go with bigger valves in the tranny, supra drive shaft etc.... For a mild psi boost go with the Eaton, for massive hp go with the twin screw whipple. I am running nos on my 1992 sc400 and have done just about every performance mod possible other then the airforced induction. However, I am working on a supercharger setup in the near future myself, but need to address my tranny and engine before I go any further as I pushing the limits now. Good luck.
  10. The Audi does make a good V8 motor but the best engine is not on the list and that would be the newer and older LEXUS V8 motor, as it is shown as one of the best production motors ever built, blueprinted at production, is noted as one of the longest lasting motors as well. Not the most powerful but very durable. The Lexus motor is advertise in the Automotive museums in Los Angeles California for a reason. THE PURSUIT OF PERFECTION is an accurate advertising statement.
  11. I love the stock ride myself, as far as fuel and performance mods go without effecting sound or ride quality would be as follows- 1)Magnaflow catalytic converter- helps exhaust flow as the stock converted gets clogged and restrictive over the years. $150 installed 2)Quietflow mufflers- power and fuel effiecency. $200 installed 3)Dragon Torque converter- all performance no fuel effecieny. $1300. installed 4) Intake which you did 5) Change 2" exhaust piping to 2 1/2 exhaust piping from cat convert to mufflers. Helps exhaust flow for fuel efficency and performance. All these will bring your sc to life, all mods will not effect your drive quality but will give you savings at the pump and a good 25-30 hp or so. The Dragon Torque converter is costly but oh so effective in 0-60 times. Something to think about.
  12. I noticed you are a sunny California boy yourself and drive a 1993 sc400, curuius do you have anything special going on under your hood of your car?
  13. That is a little high, in addition you should have a steady idle during warm up and while stoping at a red lights or in park, try cleaning out the throttle body or adjusting and or replacing the throttle position sensor (TPS). Not needed but if you are in pursuit of perfection like the lex ad states that is what you should do.
  14. This thump you are hearing when shifting is most likely worn u-joints on your drive shaft, I have seen this on sc's with high miles. You will need to remove the drive shaft which is four nuts and bolts on each end, then once the drive shaft is removed you will notice a little play on the both ends which is not suppose to happen. Find a driveshaft shop in your area and have them replace the joints on each end of the driveshaft and then have them balance it. Bet you that clunk noise goes away. Should not cost more then $200. Good luck
  15. This is a California car I am and have been modifying. I am moving to Florida shortly and smog emissions are not a major concern, throwing off my ECU is. These headers are made and sold in Arizona, designed for the sc400. Cost $600, EGR blocker $80. A 15-20hp gain is expected after install. I am one of the few that dare try this header install as far as I can see, but after studying the design of the stock headers I found them to be extremely restrictive in their design and in order to achieve max exhaust flow I must change them out. So these S&S headers are going in one way or another as I try to climb up the horse power latter. I have posted this same question on three forums and no one can answer, unbelievable, is there a lexus mechanic in the house?
  16. My advise is look into a Stand Alone Ecu, they are costly but are most effective in any transplant situations, mods, etc.....Also they help bring out the most in the way of peak engine performance and timely transmittion shifts. A very nice performance upgrade in addition to the VVTI. This requires removal of your stock ECU, and wiring up the Stand Alone ECU then programming accordingly.
  17. Hey I have a technical question - I have a 1992 SC400 Caifornia car and am about to install a set of S@S Headers on it. I understand in order to install the Headers an EGR blocker is needed which I have. My question is by blocking the EGR, and installing the high performance headers, will that cause any problems with the computer or sensing the fuel mix ratio? Can anyone offer me any knowledge on this subject. Oh and my biggest concern is that I am running a nos system and use it frequently, and I read that blocking the EGR in a USA sc400's can cause the car to run too rich, if so that could mean devistation to my engine. As with nos if the engine runs too rich that means booooommmmm bye, bye engine. I do have an ECU piggyback and I do plan on dyno testing and tuning after install, any advise anyone?
  18. If I were you choose the BMW over Mercedes, the newer mercedes break down so much I cannot even tell you, and even more so the AMG models. The newer generation of mercedes are not made as well as the earlier models. The reason I know this is I have a close friend whom works at a Mercedes dealership and drives a lexus, and tells me all the time about how bad and often the newer Mercedes breakdown. BMW are not the car as Mercedes, in the way of performance and luxury but they will not breakdown as much. The most reliable car out their today is yours truley, the LEXUS V8, I also know this from experience by formally owning and running a used car dealership. Now I am into hotroding the Lexus, and the V8 lexus motor is the most durable motor that is production made in my opinion, it can almost handle twice the horsepower from stock with out any problems, that cannot be said for too many other cars out there if any. The lexus V8 cars should be your first choice, but if not then go BMW.
  19. No problem, and most likely it is a fuse because the wiring seldomly goes bad on the sc's. If it does end up being a fuse, and you change it and it goes bad again on you, that means it is the wiring causing the problem, and you probably have a hot wire exposed and touching some metal somewhere. That is a pain and in most cases you just need to run new power and ground wires to the motor, forget about locating the source of the short and replacing that section of wire, too much work, and still won't be as good as new wiring. Good luck.
  20. You will find the fuse box next to the battery, it is in a big black plastic box, you will need a screw driver to remove the top, there is a second box that would be on the driver side next to where a foot pedal clutch would be against the side right above the carpet. So again as you bend down under the steering wheel, look to the left and up behind the carpet and you should see the fuses. That is the box I believe is where your fuse is if bak. Try the engine box second. You will need a fuse puller or needle nose pliers to pull each fuse out on at a time, til you find one with a break or burn on it, and that will be your bad fuse. Try that if that does not work, it will most likely be the motor. Last the wiring. Good Luck.
  21. I bet that noise is coming from your lower control arms and I would bet it is the bushings. Check your shock as well. My lower control arm bushings on my 1992 SC400 got really bad and I installed new Supra lower control arms in at $400. Put them in myself alligned the tires, and it rides straight, smoothe and responsive. The daisen bushings suck!!!!
  22. They are two different cars. The Lexus, while a sport's coupe is geared towards people looking for a more luxurious car. The BMW, won't have as nice of a ride but it will have better handling and depending on the engind you get, be faster. But watch out for the 540i V8's Nikasil and Alusil engine block problems. Make sure its an Alusil (not standard for the 1995 and below 540i's), as the Nikasil will get carbon deposits in it and eventually you will have to replace your engine in it. The 5 series is also a 4-door, so they're really appealing to two different uses and crowds with the two cars. The SC was made to compete with BMW's 8'series early on with affordibility as the 8-series was way way expensive. ← Well, I wasn't really talking about performance or comfort, I was talking mainly about reliability and longevity in Lexus. But if we must talk about luxury and perfomance here is a little story; I am aware that the BMW M models and some other newer ones will out perform all the Lexus sc's at stock, however, my sc400 is the exception. I not to long ago raced and barely beat a new M3 BMW 0-60 in my modified and comfortable SC400. What I am trying to get at here is my sc400 came stock at or around 250hp and now has maybe a little over 400hp or so, all the internal engine and tranny components are unaltered and it has 105,000 miles on it also!!! I really don't think any BMW with 100,000 miles on it can handle almost double their horsepower, and run nos on it for what now is going on a little over a year in my car, without any major problems or breakdowns happening. The Lexus's in my opinion is superior to the BMW's, rest my case.
  23. Hey guys, I have a good idea how much horsepower a stock sc400 engine can handle before the pistons or rods break, but I am getting a lot of different opinions on how much horsepower the stock sc400 transmittion and drivetrain can handle before breaking or overheating. Does anybody really know the anser to this? I would love to know. I am guessing around 500-550hp?????
  24. Honestly it has been over a year so I can not remember, but both dashes look great one is on my sc400 the other is on my landcruiser. I can tell you I bought them both from two different ebayers and no have no problems to date. I am sorry I cannot be of more help. Just look at the ebayers history and feedback remarks to see whether they are selling a good product.
