  1. We worked with GM on rupture resistant fuel cells in the earl 1980's. It was a quite workable design and process. Cost was about $5 more than a standard steel gas tank. GM never adopted it for production though. As for the GS/IS appearance, that's L Finesse. I like it on the IS better than the GS as it just looks better on the smaller car.
  2. You can scream all you want. The facts are simple: 1. Lexus spends many millions of dollars designing their cars, testing them, and guaranteeing them based on their design. 2. Changing that design without an equivalent amount of testing is just as likely to cause problems as to improve things. 3. People have reported problems with the things you're suggesting. While it's impossible to prove that the problems were cause by the mods you're suggesting, you also can't prove that they weren't. 4. Given #3, I'd default back to #1. Lexus knows what they're doing. There's no evidence that you do. ← I think it would be incumbent upon you to document (prove) any of these cases of problems/damage due to any of these mods being done as instructed. Therefore I am now asking you for that documentation. After all, we are adults here and any reasonable person would understand what risks, if any might be involved, and any reasonable person would also understand his own skill level and any limitations he might have in doing such mods. ← I've already said that it would be hard to prove that the damage was caused by the modifications. But people report having tried the modifications that Toysrme is recommending and have had problems (a ruined engine in one case and a ruined transmission in another). Given the reliabilty of Toyota engines and transmissions, that OUGHT to make a person suspicious. As for yours and Steviej's comment that 'we're all adults and people should be able to try whatever they want', I agree completely. But lots of people will believe a post from someone that says 'if you do this, you'll have miracles happen and there's no risk at all' -- when there is, in fact, plenty of risk. Instead of attacking the person who's pointing out that there is a risk, you ought to be chastising the person who says 'nothing can go wrong, trust me' when he's clearly wrong. At the very least, you screw up your Lexus warranty. ← No one has attacked you. I asked for proof of your claims. You have not provided it. The burden is upon the accuser. I now will ask you to take that back, about being attacked, because it simply isn't true.

  4. Should I stop using Chevron with Techron or Shell with Cleanemup additives?
  5. My plumber charges $105/hr including the house call.
  6. Nice. Where did you get the little handle?
  7. It's your car man, do what you want. I don't have to like it.
  8. I've never listened to an LS but most anything I play sounds great in my IS350.
  9. Don't know how close it is but Luxury Motorworks seems to have a good rep for Lexus service at more reasonable prices. http://www.luxurymotorworks.com/contact_us.php
  10. You have to take something like a butter knife, or table knife and pry very gently at the rear (side toward the back of the car). Just put the knife in place slightly between the bezel and the headliner, maybe just a couple of milimeters. It should pop off very easily. If you feel a lot of resistance, the knife is in too far. The entire gray bezel and the lenses all come away as a unit. There are clips front and rear. The part where the bulb base attaches is very flimsy, so you may need to squeeze it a little before putting in a new bulb. It's hard to explain this clearly, but I hope you get the idea. The main thing is that you are just barely sliding the edge of the knife in under the bezel rear edge. Once you get it open you'll see how it's made and understand why.
  11. I am not starting a war here trying to find it out since you are right, the info is hard to get. I am looking for links to documentation to state what is legal and what is not. I do not want to go by working right and don't bother nobody and you don't get pulled over". So far all the info I found states if I put a HID bulb in my halogen reflector is it not legal. So that blow the theory of reflector based hid stock in my 1998 ES300. gee, mr grumpy B) ← We have a saying about beating a dead horse, sir.
  12. G2 does a really good job. Mine looked good after 2 1/2 years when I traded in my car. If you think it might set up too soon, just mix half of the material and do two wheels. Then when you are ready, mix the other half.
  13. You defined the crappy system in your legality question post. I've defined the "proper" system in my previous posts. Guess what. I don't give a red rat's !Removed! whether you think it's illegal or not. If it's working right and don't bother nobody and you don't get pulled over for it then all your concerns are moot.
  14. Personally I wouldn't do that, as the tire changing jack is not really stable enough to trust. You can get a hydraulic jack and a pair of jack stands for around $30, and that's much safer, plus you can have two wheels off at the same time.
  15. So you are telling me I can put a HID bulb into my stock 98 ES reflector is 100% legal? Even though the cutoff sucks, and the glare is bad? http://faqlight.carpassion.info/ ← What is it that you want me to see at the website you linked? I don't think I addressed the legality of that, if you read my posts. However, as best I can find out, there has been no final ruling/interpretation to the application of the revisions to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. I'm pretty sure though that if you install the crappy system you mention, not the "proper" system that I've mentioned, you'll most likely get pulled over by the cops, and justly so. Same thing would happen if you persisted in driving around with your halogen high beams on all the time and refused to dip to low beams. Not a good setup. Same thing would happen if you drove with seriously misaligned halogen low beams. I hope this clarifies for you the difference between running a quality, HID retrofit setup, actually designed for your reflector housings, as opposed to some botched, poorly designed, misfit setup. This is the latest info that I've been able to find on the issue. http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-30/NC...LARE_PERCEP.pdf http://search.google.dot.gov/NHTSA/NHTSASe...&I1.x=4&I1.y=11 http://content.sema.org/content/?ID=25377
  16. Word is that the HKS will be available in January. However, if my IS350 had any better performance I don't know if I could stand it. And it ain't even broke in yet.
  17. I think a welldone retrofit kit setup beats hell out of all the damn painted blue blue blue lights you see going down the road, legal wise.
  18. My IS was IBP and I did the calipers in silver with black Lexus logo stickers. I thought it looked good, but not too flashy.
  19. reflector based hid stock!!!! navigotor wrx sti is300 esclade acura rl 97-04 lexus es300 rx300 gs lincoln ls g35 AND i quit right there so what hid does not have to come with projectors to be stock :D ← It doesn't. I put Catz H4 xenon on my 01 Civic and took pics before and after of the lights shining on my garage door. Beams were flat at the top and I never got flashed by oncoming traffic. Drove it for a year all over the southeast.
  20. If the xenon capsule is in the proper location in relation to the reflector housing, there is no problem with glare or cutoff.
  21. Probably need to search on "brake" instead of "break".
