  1. I can go back even earlier than that Mike where the heater in the car was an optional extra and all the interior was metal so it was absolutely freezing in winter 😞
  2. I would not say it is the actuators as the lights go out when the door is closed so these are working okay. Check the trunk and hood switches also as these can also trigger the alarm
  3. The TR7 was a very unreliable car as poor design but they did shoehorn a 215ci Buick V8 into them and renamed them TR8 which was fun in those days
  4. MX5 Eunos mk1 - close enough to the Miata . what a superb little car it was, regret selling it as it was such good fun on the road and track 🙂
  5. That's a great idea Mike! I still don't think I could afford a sports car even in 10 years time 🙂
  6. Nice one Dave.....completely and utterly jealous now 🙂 Looks superb with the wrap and shame that Lexus don't actually produced that colour scheme. I too drove an LC500 for a day and totally agree with your review comments....it really is a superb car and would absolutely go for one over other high-performance cars as it seemed totally useable as a daily driver as well as being able to 'produce the goods' when needed.
  7. Have you checked the wiring and connections from the A Post to the door. As the wiring articulates when the door is opened and closed it doesn't take a lot for the wires to fracture and you lose power.
  8. I personally would go for the 2005 LX Did you get one yet?
  9. It sounds like it could be an issue with the fans, next time this happens then open the hood and see if the fans are spinning, if not then possibly a wiring or sensor issue
  10. Hi Tim.....welcome to the Club It may well be handle but not entirely sure what it would fail so wouldn't write it off yet as a replacement one could be quite expensive if replaced unnecessarily
  11. It could probably benefit from being stripped down to clean the internal contacts and go from there.
  12. Hi.....welcome to the Club I would start by checking the battery voltage and condition. If suspect then replace it with a quality battery. After that it would be beneficial to get the car scanned and see what faults show on the scanner
  13. SOunds like it could be an issue with the head unit. Possibly replace it for an aftermarket unit which would be the cheapest option or find somewhere to get it repaired?
  14. Wow! that's some journey to get to the end result and sometimes there are no shortcuts. looking at all the fault codes, it does seem there was quite a bit to resolve so not sure you could have done much differently. Well done on spending the time and money on rescuing the old girl, you've now got a superb Lexus as a result
  15. Hi David.....welcome to the Club It depends on what ratio tires you want to fit. My BMW Z3 had 17" wheels with low profile tires but apart from cornering hard then the ride quality suffered with poor roads. Swapped out the wheels to 15" with 60 profile tyre and looks okay, a lot smoother ride but handles very badly on tight bends 🙂
  16. Sounds like an immobiliser issue.....worth checking the battery voltage
  17. Hi...welcome to the Club If it had to be jump started then it must be the battery has failed. Whether it has failed because of a faulty alternator is another avenue to explore. I would start by getting the charging circuit checked and go from there
  18. Hi Jillian....welcome to the Club Sorry for the late reply but yes, they look like the same parts. The Godspeed parts look great value for money but would need careful setting up to get the correct suspension geometry Let us know how you get on with it all
  19. Hi Clint.....welcome to the Club Sounds like an issue is being flagged such as air con gas pressure being low. Worth dropping into an Air Con shop to recharge the system to see if that cures it
  20. Hi Jeff....welcome to the Club I would say that if you have no evidence of the cambelt being replaced then I would change it along with the water pump and tensioners as required....not worth taking the chance. Suspension should be good for towing but you could add some spring assisters if required to beef it up for heavier use.
  21. You would need an interface to connect into the canbus electronics but these should be readily available from any parts stores
  22. I think she was right to be cautious and not proceed with an open checkbook as this could lead to huge repair bills. It is either going to be one of a few things, although easily fixed! 1. Passenger occupancy sensor - which indicates someone is sat in the seat and the airbag is then active, no one there and it deactivates the passenger airbag. If a bag or something heavy is left on the seat then this can activate it. If the sensor is faulty (assuming it has one fitted) then this can trigger the fault. 2. Pre-Tensioner - connection under the seat sometimes goes bad, need to disconnect, clean terminals and reconnect (sometimes works to twist the wire a couple of turns so that when reconnected it has a slight bias onto the terminals and cures the fault) 3. Faulty Airbag or wiring - requires replacement and then should resolve issue. NOTE: proceed with extreme caution when working on an SRS electrics. Ensure the battery is first disconnected and left for at least half and hour so the capacitors can discharge any residual power then it is safe to work on the electrics or associated components. Also, do not apply any power to the system when it is down, e.g. multimeter resistance checks as this can trigger an airbag. When you are happy that everything is fine then reconnect the battery and as soon as the ignition is on it will check the resistance of all components and if correct the lamp will extinguish almost immediately and stay out. It should not need any reprogramming to the car as it is self evaluating after every ignition restart
  23. Great write up Mike, provokes thought as to whether this is truly the way forward, particularly with what is going on globally. The Prius is a classic example of how to do things right, and as a side note - it is also the preferred choice for Cab Drivers and they truly rack up some huge miles over the years without many issues at all...a great legacy to Toyota design and reliability. The Toyota Mirai Hydrogen car is also a very strong contender in todays world as the only emissions is water. I recently drove one for review and it was incredibly impressive as a car and also the technology that was packed into the car but was not visible so you have no idea of what lies beneath. Apart from the cost and the limited availability it would be the next major player in the EcoCar world, along with the Hyundai Nexo and Honda Clarity.
