  1. My mistake. It might be .1 off but that's about all. I do notice that they do okay on local mileage, but they're not getting great highway mileage.
  2. I purchased the Alenzas. They seem quiet enough, good steering, with excellent traction. I did notice (and this could be the water hitting under the car) that they seemed noisy going through deep puddles.
  3. I replaced my original Goodyears with Bridgestone Alenzas. I ordered the same size. The car rides well and traction is excellent. Noise is okay but seemed very loud going through deeper puddles. However, my mileage readings are off! It is recording that I've traveled far more than reality. A 1.2 mile trip is recorded as 1.6! Any clues?
  4. After reading all the contributions on tires I purchased the Alenzas to replace my Goodyears. I have to say they are quieter than I expected, smoother than I expected, a little tougher on acceleration and the mileage seems down a bit. However, I suspected the past month's mpg were up due to the low tread on my Goodyears. I only have a hundred miles or so on them so far so it's too early to make judgements. I also buy gas once every 2 weeks so you know how unscientific my data is.
  5. Unlike the Michelin Cross Terrains on the RX 300 the RX350 loaner I had had wishywashy steering and the tires seem to be part of it. The car would turn and feel like it was rolling sideways on the tires but they didn't squeal so I don't think it was due to low air. It could be the difference between a 400h and a 350 but somehow I think not. I've never felt that in other loaners that were RX330s. Because once you purchase tires you usually are using them for a long time I didn't want to take a chance. Don't get me wrong I usually love Michelins and have them on all of my other cars.
  6. Well, after reading everyone's opinions, searching for answers on the internet, consulting with the service dept. I consulted my local tire dealer. He too mentioned the Hangook but said that they would ride like the Goodyears! Now since I haven't enjoyed my Goodyears (noisy on concrete roads, slides on wet pavement, snow and ice) I decided to go with either the Michelins or the Alenzas. I didn't like the Michelins on the RX 350 loaner I had. Since I liked the Cross Terrains on my old RX he suggested I'd probably like the Alenzas. So, they're ordered now and should go on the car next week. I'll let you know how it works out. However, I won't have any opinions on winter driving for awhile. Thanks All for your input.
  7. I haven't had any alignment problems. The Goodyear tires are wearing evenly--maybe their name is the predictor of their lifespan? Just kidding. Looking at the ratings, the Alenza comes out higher than the Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 that Lexus is recommending. However, they are heavier and are they noisier? Do they affect the gas mileage on the hybrid? I have to make my mind up soon! Also, the prices quoted earlier in this thread are a whole lot cheaper than available in my area. I don't really think it is practical to ship the tires and pay to have them put on and balanced either. I'm assuming that all quotes are for the V rated tires in the 18" size. Can someone say if the Alenzas are quiet and won't damage the hybrid? I did inquire at the dealership but they did not have a definite answer other than they no longer recommend the Goodyears and do put on the Michelins.
  8. I realize that the season has changed and you probably don't get ice in CO, but did you try those tires in the ice? We get ice in NJ and my past experience with Bridgestone is that after a year they don't do well in the ice/snow. So as my Goodyears are about gone my choice is between Michelin and the Alenzas. I also am confused as to wheter the other Michelins are better.
  9. I don't think that comment was necessary. I understand what mrc88dal means. I've used 2 on occasion because often you keep turning on a curvy road and it's easier to have one on the side and front at the same time than to keep shoving the visor back and forth when you should be using 2 hands to handle the curves.
  10. The old RX 300s had a second visor. Except to save money I have no idea why they eliminated it when they switched to RX 330.
  11. The cars on the side of the road were disabled. They had already been through the flooded area. This was one of those times it was good to be in a higher car than a sports sedan.
  12. During the last storm I found myself having to drive through water of varying depths. When I spotted it I went through slowly, but it was dark and a temporary roadway. All of the sudden I was going 40 and drove through fairly deep water. I had two hands on the steering wheel but could barely hold it straight. I was amazed to discover that the car traveled through perfectly straight and all was fine. Other cars were pulled off to the side. Anyone else having similar experience?
  13. I am fascinated by your experience because I have not loved my Goodyear tires also. I've had my car since June '05 and it has been fine. However, when the car was a week old I got a flat tire in Philly. It was changed and when I returned to NJ the dealer fixed it. My car now has about 18,000 miles and the tires aren't great but still useable. I've complained about the noise of the tires, handling, and wear, but they said that was what Lexus was recommending. Now, if you bought your car locally, we're talking about the same dealer who has been wonderful. I'm just curious about the switch to Michelin tires.
  14. There are times when this forum is too technical for me! In short, are you saying that if there is a lot of snow I should drive my '99 RX 300 with Cross Terrain tires (awd) instead of the newer RX 400h awd with dismal Goodyears??? To be honest I always felt like I had better control with the old RX but just assumed it was the tires. I live on a hill but have never had any problems with the 400h. In fact when we were too lazy to clear the mound of snow/ice at the bottom of the driveway (about 12+ inches) I just drove over it.
  15. Usually mine work well. One morning they stopped working in the middle of rain! It turns out that the EZ Pass was interfering. I just had my EZ Pass moved. Lexus knows where to put the transponder so it won't interfere.
  16. I have had my RX400h for over a year and a half and ran it almost exclusively on regular. I did check with the service advisor at Lexus first. However, I noticed that when the weather is extremely cold that I was getting terrible mileage. Since the hybrid guide given to me at the Lexus Hybrid event suggests using premium to improve mileage, I tried it. The difference isn't so much in just cold or warm weather, but when it is very cold as it is now--10 degrees, it seems to get at least acceptable mileage on premium. Id' say about 4 mpg better. When the weather moderates I'll try switching back and see what happens. Mathematically, if you can get significantly enough better mileage with premium it's worth it. Now that the price is creeping up, I may have to rework my figures!
  17. I live in a hilly part of NJ and my bars are green most of the time. Because the battery is mostly charged (only top bar missing) it'll stay green while coasting at higher mph, too. However, I don't purposely drive to make them green.
  18. I don't think you want to hear this. I had the exact same problem at the same speed. When I noticed it I had Lexus look. They didn't find it, but they heard it, too. They changed all kinds of parts. No luck. Eventually, it was determined (about 3,000 miles later) that it was the transmission. I had been insistant that they find the problem because I knew the long term warranty was going to run out. They replaced it for free.
  19. When I bought my first Lexus RX I couldn't believe the salesman wanted to show me where the spare tire was located. I told him I didn't plan on using it! I never did. The car is over 8 years old. Then I bought the RX400h. The car was a week old, I had driven from NJ to Philadelphia. The car was in a hotel garage all the way upstairs. Would you believe the day I was to drive back to NJ the car had a flat? Lexus service came but the man only carried the tools upstairs rather than bringing up the truck. They changed the tire. When I returned home, the dealer repaired the tire. We left it as the spare. It's a year and a half later and I haven't had any more flats.
  20. They thought that was the problem before. Applying leather conditioner would only help for a week. I tried, too, we also tried putting the armrest up/down, etc. and nothing helped. They've heard the sound, too but when it leaves the dealership the noise stops for a week or two and then surprise it comes back. Right now it isn't there (it's cold out) so I'll just wait until it returns. It's not like they're not trying. They offer to do anything but if several people hear something there's got to be a problem that Lexus should solve. By the way, there are no other Lexus dealers closeby and this one is the nicest around (to the customer). I would reserve calling Lexus corporate. I had called them years ago. That was a disaster. They give you lip service but then they had a japanese man (I'm not knocking the japanese) who couldn't really understand the problem in Engish and who insisted that it was a totally different problem!
  21. Mine has had that squeak and been looked at a zillion times. The weird thing is it is worse when it is warm (I'm not hearing it now that it's 20 degrees) and when nobody sits in the back seat. I have adhesive felt pieces put in, etc. and last time the dealer said they were trying a new approach to the squeak. There is no proof that it comes from that cover! I probably won't bother them about it until it gets bad again.
  22. I had the same experience. Despite all the literature I'm not getting any better mileage with premium and there's about 25 cents a gallon difference so I've gone back to regular. Pick up was a little faster with premium but I have plenty without it. You can hardly tell now when the engine is on/off.
  23. I even downloaded it on iTunes, but it isn't the same tune.
  24. Every year we keep hearing the December to Remember ads and seeing them on tv. The music is unmistakeable and I can't get it out of my head. What is it? Also, is it me, or are they taking a new direction this year?
  25. When I saw the 2007 at Taste of Lexus there were blue hybrid signs on the RX400h. But if you look at the dealer accessories on the Lexus site, http://www.lexus.com/models/RXh/accessorie...ow_sticker.html, there are "official" decals for the back window. I'm not sure I'd put one on but I did notice it. I'm sure your dealer would get them and probably give them free. I didn't check mine, but the dealer usually will just give small items.
