  1. The rack is the problem. At this point I can't where I read about this--a link from somewhere. Anyway, it is the steering rack they replace for the problem. I just picked up the car this afternoon. I don't know what is involved in this, but they obviously had to disconnect the battery because the settings for the seat, and radio were gone. There was no recall on my IS, only the RX400h. I have one of the early ones as I waited well over a year for this car.
  2. My car is getting the steering rack replaced now.

  4. Thank you. I had been concerned about it after I heard about the recall in China of all places. After reading your post I logged into the Lexus site and sure enough it says I should bring my car in!
  5. I had a leak in the cabin as a result of a problem with the moonroof. The radio stopped working. Turns out it isn't the radio but it won't go through the speakers. When the car was dried and "defrosted" it started working again. Then it got water logged again. The leak has been fixed, but the radio won't "play". Any solutions?
  6. Ok the car will go in tomorrow to see what is wrong. Yes, it's paid for and most of the time it is an extra car. Most of the time I drive my 400h and we have a 2008 IS. Actually most of the time my greatest problem is managing to get enough miles on all 3 cars. The IS is a year old now and might have 5000 miles on it. We just had a big snowstorm and of course the old RX is always terrific in the snow.
  7. My '99 RX300 has been a wonderful car, drives well, handles well, had been dependable. Somehow turning 10 a couple weeks ago has been a curse. As I've sunk about $2000 into it in December I wonder if this is the end of the line. Changed brakes, struts, front marker light, had belts and fluids replaced--then the cabin leaked water! Had the leak fixed, but the frozen water is affecting the radio. It is now occupying one of my garages and my 2008 IS is parked on the driveway. Now the check engine light came on. The car has about 91,000 miles. Opinions? Lexus replaced the transmission already.
  8. Lexus must have changed the composition of their blades. My first ones on an RX lasted 7 years!!! But on my RX 400h I find myself having them changed about once a year. hmm.
  9. Thanks for your input. I brought the car in to Lexus today. They said there's a part inside that controls where the wiper goes that gets dried out. They lubricated it and it seems to be fine. It took about 5 minutes--no charge. I had the same issue with the steering and key locking up, too. I had to get a second person to turn the steering wheel while I turned the key.
  10. Has anyone experienced their wipers making a motor sound when going to the right? They work fine but the audible sound is new.
  11. I agree but I think they look ugly. The 3rd time I drove my car it got 3 dings. I decided to buy ding insurance instead. I'm covered for 5 years with infinite number of dings, windshield and interior protection. I think it was about $600. I had the 3 dings repaired right away.
  12. I can't believe all you went through. Ironically Tri County and Prestige wanted to sell me a car so-o badly. In the end I went with my closeby friendly dealer who gives me terrific service and did the brake fix without question. Warnock Lexus has the most honest service and are friendly, too. Their motto--Warnock--there really is a difference. I have used their service since '98 for all my Lexuses.
  13. I don't know which dealer in N. NJ you used but mine is terrific!!!
  14. I don't remember if this issue was on this site or another, but apparently it is up to the discretion of the dealer to cover the 2008s. Ironically, the brake dust on mine after 1000 miles was so bad (yes it had been washed in between) they had trouble removing it. They did do the TSIB and brake dust is no longer an issue at all. Yes, great dealer. They looked for the info and just did it. They saw the problem.
  15. My dealer did it for me when I picked up the car--250IS (2008) in December. It was pretty straightforward.
  16. Interesting. I did Google it. I wonder if my dealership is applying for the award! They have a new facility which is incredible, check in is fast, waiting areas are with flat screen tvs, there's a separate child's room, upstairs (elevator) is a wireless internet library, etc. In addition to the coffee there is a refrig stocked with cold drinks, a caterer provides lunches daily, and of course there are incredible cookies and brownies, too! Yes, they pick up and drop off and give Lexus loaners. They're tops in my book and couldn't be more accommodating. If the customers got to vote, I'd vote for them.
  17. Mine usually charges all but one bar and is green. (I coast down a hill daily to get out of my street) However, when the air conditioner is on it quickly gets depleted.
  18. A traitor??? The Highlander is undoubtedly a better buy, but I believe people should buy cars that "fit" them. They aren't selling well in my area. What I'm noticing is that people are trading their GXs for RXs. There are still so many RXs in this area. The old Highlander sold well here but in 6 months I've seen 3 in this area. I could see 4 RXs in an intersection. I notice you have an ES. I think each of us has different preferences. I'd drive any Lexus before an ES. They even know that at the dealership when they give me a loaner. That doesn't mean one is better than another.
  19. Sorry I didn't read your post earlier. Years ago I had brought my old RX in for service. I paid for it and left. I drove about 1/4 mile and the (I didn't know what it was because I had never seen it before) the check engine light came on. I called them and they said bring it back. They hooked it up to the computers--nothing. So they told me to try it again. This time I got about 1/2 mile away and it came on. They had me bring it back and gave me a loaner. It turns out a rodent (they never said what kind) had built a nest inside and chewed all kinds of wires! It took a week to fix!!! But, they covered it under warranty!!! Some dealers are better than others but if you're still disputing the issue I'd pursue it further!
  20. I used to own a moped. I'm too old now! I tend to drive the car that will get the mpg for the trip I'm going to take. Highway but not too long gets the IS. (long trips are more comfortable in the RX) City, suburb driving gets the RX400h. It's not too bad. I fill up the car I use the most about once in 2 weeks. Its like a game trying to buy gas at 1/2 before the price jumps! Sometimes there's as much as a 15 cent difference between fill ups. No, I'm not planning to take any extreme measures.
  21. I don't know about the 2007 but it works with the 2008. Since it works handsfree on a 2006 RX400h with the older bluetooth and navigation my guess is it should work. Why not call the dealer and check. Warnock Lexus is very helpful and actually connected mine on the RX the day I got my iPhone (first day it came out). (obviously for free)
  22. Using the Navigation grows on you. You don't just get the Navigation, you get the back up camera (especially good in parking lots) and the bluetooth phone connection. Many states like NJ are requiring hands free telephone usage and for the average woman its a whole lot more convenient to have it just work. Also, if you're going to be going on short trips around town taking the portable nav out, putting it back up every time is a hassle and thieves are targeting them to steal for quick cash. I'd try for a better deal! When you negotiate for a car the more items you get the more discount you get. Honestly I don't lease so I don't know if it holds true for lease agreements, but I'd see what kind of deal you could get elsewhere with the nav. I was quite pleased with the deal I got in the end on my 2008 250 awd.
  23. On the Lexus owner's site you can get a history of all the service done on the car. If it was done by Lexus it is all there. If it was done elsewhere the owner has the option of entering in info. But assuming they did the service you might get a better idea of its history.
  24. cool thanks for the reply. was it new? Yes, I told the dealer what color and options I wanted and they found the car in the incoming inventory. It came in about 3 weeks later. I had gotten a quote earlier from another dealer, but wanted to purchase it at my "own" dealer. No problems since.
  25. There is no question that the kind of driving, weather, etc. make a huge difference in mileage. When I have to cruise around the airport (because you can't stop and have to keep going slowly) I got 45 mpg!!! It was warm and I had the air conditioning on, too. They just switched back from the winter gas to the normal gas in NJ and my normal trips and style of driving went up 2mpg! The Bridgestone Alenzas chopped over a mpg off my results consistently and I've had them for months.
