  1. Never mind, it seems to have straightened itself out, not doing that anymore. Maybe was part of the reset after installing the new battery.
  2. Anyone know what is causing this? Just started after having a new battery installed yesterday. Never happened before.
  3. Wanted to reply to this particular post because I was just at Lexology in Hermosa Beach yesterday (for the 1st time) and got a quote for the TB/WP full service as my car as waay past the years but way under mileage (48K). They quoted me just under $900.00 for everything, inlcluding new thermostat, tensioners, and all other misc parts to do the job right. I will have them do it son, beacuse as another poster said wisely, its's a LOT cheaper than replacing a non-interference engine. Lexology also made apoint that the dealers do tend to quote you this $475.00 price, but thta IS just the belt, not the Water Pump or other parts. Everything they indicated they would replace matches the above post with the piece parts breakdown. So I'm comfortable I now have a shop that will do it right and I will pay a fair price. Lastly, they said that if you plan to sell the car, do the belt only, but most of their customers plan to keep their cars a long time so they almost always OK the full monty.
  4. Assuming you do know the code, and you have the Nav option, how do you enter it? What screen do you have to be in to enter?
  5. I have the same problem. Did You have any luck with this item? Any hope! Please let me know if there is a way out. Thanks Suggest you get hold of DC, he is he MAN! He got me rolling again with a factory replacement CD unit that works like a charm. Options are VERY limited for the LS series, short of yanking everything out. This guy knows his bidness. God bless him. Check him out!
  6. And he wasn't even using Ebonics, rotf! That was some other pseudo, kinda sorta language! I do wish Homey well, but I am curious why anyone (not on drugs) would want to swap one of the best auto trannies around to a manual tranny? And, I must say, the purple rims? Well, isn't that Prince's color of choice?
  7. Agree with all above. Proof is in the pudding! Show some visual progress of this "Master Plan" of yours and you will make believers out of the group. Well, some of them, anyway! Go for it! P.S. And I can attest, DCFish is a man of his word! He's good for that beer! This I gotta see, lol!
  8. DC, I see you just had a birthday In Oct. Well, Happy Birthday to you! And a HUGE THANKS for sending me the replacement CD changer for my LS400 the other day. I am a real happy guy once again and you were just what the Dr. ordered, as I was really up against the wall. Excellent niche speciality you have going. BTW, that dinner you described sounds awfully tasty! Would've loved to have been present for the leftovers, but somehow, I don't think there were any, lol!
  9. What year is your LS ? 98,99,00 ? I may have a changer you are looking for. DC Fish IS Da Man! Got a refurbished unit from him delivered Friday & installed today that fit like a charm and sounds fantastic. I owe this guy big time! I am a happy camper once again! No more skip & freeze. What I learned for those of you facing a similar situation: Not all of the factory units are interchangeable per models. The unit I first located was form a '99GS400 and the linking Connector in rear is not the same, even though the unit LOOKS the same. Choices for a replacement are VERY limited if, like me, you don't want to yank out all the factory stuff and you have Nav. The whole bottom glove box assy has to come out to have room to access the Pioneer changer unit. And if you an do the swap yourself, more power to ya. If not, plan to pay $50.00 at a stereo shop for the work. Otherwise, it's plug and play. Thanks again, David!
  10. Bob, thanks very much, I did already have this site bookmarked, but they no longer service my unit. I did just find a refurbised Changer and just bought it. Hope that will take care of my issue. Appreciate the help! Have a great Thanksgiving!
  11. DC, would you happen to know the Pioneer CD Changer model number for a 1998 unit?
  12. What year is your LS ? 98,99,00 ? I may have a changer you are looking for. 1998. Hows the overall condition. And out curiousity, what did you replace your unit with?
  13. What to do about the Pioneer CD changer on a '98-00 LS400 with Nav when you know the Laser is on way out? My unit has become VERY tempermental. It runs fine fo r5-10 minutes, then skips while playing a CD or freezes up altogether, especially in hot weather. It also will absolutely not play any burnt CDs. I tried replacing with a unit from a '99 GS400, but the Connectors wern't same (my unit has a big white rectangular Conn with a lot of pin outs) and too much hassle to attempt a Connector swap without soldering and making a mistake in wiring. My unit had a 1998 date stamp on it. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the model number before the guy reinstalled my unit. Since the aftermarket is very small, there are almost no choices. I have done a ton of research, I do not see any non-IPod alternatives to replace the factory CD changer. Not interested in going that iPod route. I'm old school. I just want a solid aftermarket CD changer I can hook up in trunk that can bypass the Pioneer. Rest of the system sounds great, and I am not interested in yanking out the Nav. There has to be someone here who has experienced the same situation. What are my choices, if any? Can I get a universal CD changer (Pioneer makes several) that will hook up to the Nav? I'm sure someone will just tell me go to the junkyard...
  14. My same VSC & Check Engine, VSC Off lights as you describe came on 2 days ago out of the blue. Never happened before. But after a search, I decided to try a member's suggestion and disconnected the battery for 10 min then hooked it back. Viola! The 'puter reset itself and lights went out. Guess I was lucky.
  15. I recenly posted about having exact same issue with my CD unit. You might want to try a Lens cleaner, I got the maxell unit, inexpensive and it did help somewhat. But you may haver tohave the unit removed and serviced. That's what I am now looking into.
  16. Are you asking how to cut out semi circular (like half moon) cuts into the bumber to accomodate the exhaust tips in your pic? I'd like to know that myself, I have the same bumper as you & stock resonators aren't hardly visible at all. And BTW, what kid of visible exhaust tips are those? Look very nice. How's the sound?
  17. Call a Lexus dealer near you to see if they can mount it for you at no charge. a lot of dealers will mount because they consider it as a courtesy and a quick job. some dealers will offer to do that when you buy a new car. Had this very problem and took car to my local dealership. They were very nice about it and drilled the two missing holes in the bumper and mounted the frame and plate for free. Compensated for $72 for the new frame and a $30 ticket that was NOT correctable (mechanical violation). Hard times are making all communities find new ways to generate revenue. They are pressing the front plate issue so they can nail you withthe intersection cameras going up all over. Yet another nickel & dime racket. They should be out looking for criminals.
  18. Thanks, I figured that was what it would come down to because of the age of the car. I'm gonna pray it holds up for along time. Guess it's time to finally read thru that thick book that came with the car (I read the owner's manual start to finish but passed on the Nav suppliment, looked way to complicated) & see if there are any manual overrides.
  19. I have a 1998 LS400 with Nav. I've been researching (or at least trying to find) info on the lifespan of these units. Because of the age of my car, I don't have an extended warranty anymore that could cover repair should it go south. When they go blank, how an you manually control the radio, CD, etc? And are they servicble or do most owners end up having to go the dealer (OMG!) and pay for a replacement? So much is controlled by the Nav, it's the only thing I worry about in my car. Is the issue usually a fuse? Or worse? Haven't had any issues thus far, but want to be prepared for worst case scenario. Thanks in advance for any stories you all may wish to share.
  20. It's problems like this poor guy is having that made me research rim fits for my '98 LS400 before buying anything. Tirerack told me the Zilinx 18" Modena rims I was zeroing in on had a very tight fit gap but would clear the calipers, and they do. I've heard some folks have not had issues with 20's (but more that have), but I wasn't taking any chances. 18" looks good enough for me. And no rubbing issues whatsoever.
  21. Thanks for this thread, it reminded me I need to do my belt/pump, which has been easy to ignore because I have such unusally low mileage for a '98 (under 34K). But last time I had a 5K service (about 3 mos ago), my mechanic, who I do trust, suggested I change TB/WP due to the time that has elapsed. He did a visual inspection, said it LOOKED OK from what he could see, but as stated here, you can't trust a visual inspection. Techinically speaking, I'm way overdue.
  22. The 4.0 in either the LS or GS will last you a very long time. I've driven a '98 LS with 235k miles, and it felt like a new car. It's not uncommon for a LS400 to go 300k-500k miles without any problem. If it were my money, I'd get the 98-00 LS (with hids) in a heartbeat...it's probably the best looking car that Lexus ever put out, imho. Blake, I totally agree with your post! Period. When I was shopping around, the thought of a GS never even crossed my mind. It was an LS or nothing. But that's me. And I think the '98-00 LS400 is the pinnacle of Lexus's execution. It is simply a fantastic vehicle.
  23. Congrats! Stunning vehicle. Looks a lot (condition wise) like the '98 I bought, especially the interior. Mine was just as clean as yours is since it sat garaged and covered up by the original owner who did not drive it much unless he was here in town (he lived in Las Vegas most of the time, the Navi/GPS is still set to his home address off Flamingo Road). I must say, I would have LOVED to find my car in this condition in black! I just tured 34K miles (had under 20K when I found it). Best of luck, you will enjoy this car like no other.
  24. I have a fully loaded '98 LS400 w/Navi, have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. And I picked my car up with only 20,800 original miles and all receipts.
