  1. So, the exhaust tips are barely sticking out from under the bumper, correect? Man, that sounds like a lot of work you did, but I can appreciate the results. I realy do not want to mess with the stock set up, I want it quiet also, just want some small round chrome tips to look like yours. Perhaps I can get some short extensions welded on w/tips. I'll just go talk to some muffler shops locally and see what they can and cannot do. Do not want to spend a fortune on this, it's just a cosmetic thiang at most. Thaks.
  2. Well, SK, I have to say, from that pic, that shure looks slick. But if I understood your post, it ounds like you have a bit of 'remorse' and would do it sifferently next time. However, I gather from the other posts here there aren't many options for '98-'00 models. So, does L-Sportline have a website? Did you buy online and have a local muffler shop instal? Do you mind sharing what it cost so I can majke an informed decision? I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks to all for the responses.
  3. My 1998 LS 400 has the exhaust tips fairly hidden under the rear bottom valance/bumper. There are no cutouts. The older models have the exhust tips very prominent and that look is sharp, one of the distinguishing featires of the 1st and 2nd generation of the LS. Any other owners with my car's body style have done anything with the adding some subtle but stylish exhaust tips? Not looking to ruin the overall look, and don't want to do anything tacky. Or shuld I just forget about it because it's non-doable without having something dumb looking hanging below the bumper???? I always wanted a current car with duals, and now that I have such a car, I can't even see them! LOL! Appreciate any input, thanks.
  4. Hey there, nc211- Well, I've now been rolling for 3 days. My paper cup is now full of drool. Left the dealer Sunday when I rolled off with a full tank of petro. My work commute is only 7 miles one way, but have done a bit of pleasure driving in between. Still have over 3/4 of a tank left. This is all city driving. Seems to be averaging 19-20mpg so far. Hell, considering it's a V8, I have to say, this car gets better mileage than my '93 Acura Legend Coupe and THAT car has a 24V V6! What, by he way, do most of you guys average? Today, I left the LS at the dealer so they could install LoJac. I still have no read the GPS manual yet, but I'm gradually finding my way thru it just piddling with the buttons. I do have a question abt the GPS that came with the car...does this wrk on a DVD unit in the trunk? Are there newer DVDs available (including ecent street additons, etc) and where the heck can you get one without going thru the dealer?? My 2nd question is, my car came with a console phone (which is not in service at the moment). Is this a Digital or straight Analog phone?? Remember, I have a '98. And when did Lexus start including the Bluetooth technology that seems to be found in most newer cars? Otherwise, I am in hog heaven and proud tobe a new member of a very cool group of enthusiasts. Look forward to leaning a lot more abt my car thru you pros!
  5. Hey Dust, thank you very much for the kind words. The total figure I quoted was including tax, liscense, LoJak, etc. The care itself was $22,800.00. I had to go sit in the garage and look at that odometer again. I still cannot believe I lucked out and found such a clean car. I was prepared to spend around $30K, however I couldn't come to terms with the dealers for a 2001 LS430 as they wouldn't budge off $34-35K out the door, and some newer cars I saw had much more wear and tear. I have the original wondow sticker-$58K new. I now know the dealer wasn't making much profit on this car, they wanted to move it quickly. Several people today were swarming around it. I can tell you tghis morning I went a benz dealership that had a 2001 LS430 for $29K+, but ir had 86K miles on it. If the car I bought hadn't ben in such stellar shape and such low miles, I'd still be looking! Will put up some pics soon....
  6. Hello Folks, I'm a fairly new member. I own a mint '94 ES300 which my wife drives, but today, after looking in vain for a clean 2001 LS430 and getting my face broke at the prices, I stumbled (literally) across a one owner 1998 LS400. Couldn't believe my eyes, this car is MINT, I mean not a scratch outside or inside, female driver and apparently only part time (as the story was expained to me) because this particular Lexuses has -get this-only 20,840 original miles on it! It also has 6 disk changer, chrome factory wheels, gold pacakge, new Goodyears, GPS, Phone in console, etc, etc. I looked at all the previous owner service records (they even already did the 30K service!), ran a carfax, it's clean, no wrecks, thefts, etc. I just could not believe my luck. I KNOW I got a whale of a deal, the car had just been turned in 2 days earlier. From what I have read here and elsewhere, a '98 like this with these options-here in So. Cali-is around $28-29K. The BEST part is, I drove it OUT THE DOOR for under $24K, inlcuding LoJak & extended warranty added. Just asking you pros out there, did I do OK??? I think I did...
