  1. The valve stem seals can be replaced without removing the heads by pressurising the cylinders with the valves in the closed position. this could save considerable money, however the valve guides could be worn and might cause failure of the valve stem seals again , it is a crap shoot. I had the seals replaced on a Mercedes 190E for less than $250 by a very respected german car garage nearby, It quit using oil, but lasted only a year. I then ended up rebuilding the engine. Lower end was fine but the head and the valve guides were bad.
  2. Eurasian has one for $202 plus core charge Park Place Lexus in Plano Texas has one for 235
  3. I have used my wetsaw for such u shaped cuts by making mutiple cuts diagonally after you make the two sides of the u. The tile saw for 88 should work fine. I have their 299 saw which is great, but I do alot of tile work. by the way Harbor Freight Tools has that saw on sale for 59.99
  4. It is possible to change valve stem seals without removing the heads. Mechanics now can pressurise the cylinder to hold valve up and replace the stem seals without removing the head, had that done on a mercedes a few years back.
  5. No I don't believe so. Check the other side and confirm.
  6. You have to pop the plastic around the top of the window from the inside of the glass. It has spring clips. Be careful and you will succeed. the lamp is available at any auto parts store or walmart. once the plastic is popped off you will see how to remove the bulb. Bulb is a 921 number I believe
  7. Make sure the wheels are torqued with a torque wrench, otherwise the machinced rotors could warp. Particularily pay attention to the caliper locating pins, they could be worn, or not lubricated properly allowing caliper to slide back and forth freely
  8. Could be your brake vacuum booster is failing. Maybe a unhooked vucuum line or the diaphram in the booster is leaking.
  9. I had toyota change the timing belt and water pump and they were exactly 1/3 the price quoted by Lexus. I have had the quick lube do the oil changes and was only charged $19 at toyota.
  10. hey thankyou for your contribution, good info on the tranny oil.
  11. The dealer is ripping you off, Take it to Toyota and get it done for half or 2/3 the cost of the Lexus dealership. Oh sorry, they may not wash your car, big deal. Take it around the corner and buy a real car wash with detailing, and then go to a nice resturant for the money you saved. Put the rest in the bank and enjoy.
  12. Is your RX All wheel drive or front drive only? And what kind of synthetic have you ran in your Lexus?
  13. Mobil 1 at Walmart is only 20.68 and now Walmart carries their own brand of full synthetic for 12.80 that makes oil changes cheap, I still use Toyota filters, but may consider Wix, or something else. By the way those prices are for 5 Quarts.
  14. well water is not distilled, the well water probably has a great deal of minerals in it. Distilled water is water like the droplets under the lid of a pot and pan cover after boiling the water. It is usually very mineral free which is what you really want.
  15. You used to be able to buy Neoprene sealant in a tube (Caulking gun style) When I was building my sun room the manufacturor recommended neoprene because it is tolerant of weather and remains flexible.
  16. neoprene rubber sealant is best.
  17. I own a 1999RX300AWD and have not experienced the feathering problem. I have ran Michelin LTX and Cross terrains. Sounds like you need to find a good aliagnment shop, (not lexus) and have it checked out.
  18. use the search function and type in IACV it will bring you to this discussion and a great picture.
  19. I don't know about this car, but my RX300 did the same thing, but the rear brakes are quite small and the disk is not vented. Maybe this car is the same.
  20. I don't know about this car, but my RX300 did the same thing, but the rear brakes are quite small and the disk is not vented. Maybe this car is the same.
  21. I posted about a few weeks ago that I indeed washed this filter. I take simple green and spray the filter after i vacuum and toothbrush it then rinse with clean water and then let dry. I have done this four times with very good results. the page # in the 1999 book is 139 under air conditioning and audio instructions.
  22. I agree a bump in the road could cause the cells to short in the battery if there is crud on the bottom near the plates. This could wipe the alternator diode assembly. Probably a bad alternator and battery.
  23. Well I guess since the car is made in Canada now instead of Japan, quality is number 10 or Juban. In Japan that is the worst.
  24. You need to take the old battery out, It may be shorted. Put a new battery in and try troubleshooting from that point. I once had a battery so shorted that it loaded down a jump and would not start.
  25. If the car sits outside why don't you get one of the on dash solar trickle chargers and plug it into the twelve volt system..
