  1. So Lexus did another fantastic job of service on your vehicle? I guess if you remove the filter you don't have to clean it. God help your heater core if you live in a leaf and dirty environment.
  2. by the way the shift lock button is under the little black square about one inch above the P in park indicator in the shifter. You take a very small screw driver and insert in the plug square and pry up and then push the button down under the square to put the car in Park, nuetral etc. Yes go to costco and get a new battery and make sure that the leads are clean of corrosion. Hopefully this will fix your problem.
  3. The air bag is very expensive and you would not want to mess that up. But there are procedures for removing air bag and preceeding. Just removing the plastic covers is tedious.
  4. For safe and fairly reliable transportation get a Ford Windstar, 1999 or newer. They too will hold plywood. Engine is bulllet proof and with tranny fluid changes the tranny should last.
  5. Alright guys, what are you guys talking about. What kind of solenoid has a filter?
  6. Could have a slipping belt, not building enough pump action at low rpm and slipping
  7. What kind of solenoid?
  8. Hey Geo, I am with you, that was very commendable of you, Yes the bad claims hurt us all. Being a male and paying insurance for 37 years I hate the rates, and the really wonderful thing is it is hard to switch companies after you have been with one for years, No one seems to be competitive for that type insurer. I have tried and not once have been quoted a lower price with the same coverages. Interesting industry that is both abused and puts it to us honest people.
  9. I agree, this mechanic is milking the job. Something is major wrong with his diagnostics. I am with SK something with the filter in the tranny.
  10. Check your gas cap, and then type in check engine light to see what comes up under the threads.
  11. I'm impressed, that is a steal for 1k, If anything makes a good beater car, How lucky you are. I agree change tranny fluid, filters, etc, and run it while you fix it.
  12. wow, never heard of that happening, but if the engine did indeed rise up and disconnect the drive shafts, they would not normally clip themselves back in. That is just too weird. The struts, are you talking about the suspension struts or the engine stabilizer strut?
  13. Yes I know, but where could you locate it on the RX300, There isn't much room left under the hood with a neat hose routing.
  14. Yes that is the kit I installed, without the temp guage. Would be nice to put that on the oil filter for the engine, which can be a challenge to get to on the RX300.
  15. Thank you for following this thread, I was getting nervous after what SK said about pressures, but you and Perma Cool both feel no problem. I would'nt think they would market the product if it caused problems
  16. I contacted Perma Cool to discuss what SK said about pressure losses. They assured me that because it is a free flow filter that no pressure changes occur in the fluid to the transmission.
  17. I placed filter in a vertical position and filled it with tranny fluid, If it is full all the time would'nt the pressure remain the same, also A tranny site says most transmissions push about 60-90 lbs of pressure. You got me thinking, but I am not to sure about fluid starvation. As long as the system doesn't trap air seems to me it should be fine. any other thoughts? Perma cool hopefully is marketing this properly. They said it is definetly a tranny filter system and put in series to the coolers directly from the tranny output. The oil is filtered prior to going to the transmission cooling.
  18. No but close. :D It is Chicopee about 12 to 15 minutes from here. Same with my old man at westover. Good old SAC Our City has Barnes base. Just A-10 but F15 might be moving in. ← Oh I went to elementary school in Chicopee back in 1956 to 1959
  19. Yes, on the USS Saratoga CV60. She would take hours to refuel, and with British tankers all day because of their small fuel lines.
  20. I just read up on charcoal canistes, they store gas fumes until the engine can burn them. So it is a sealed system thru the hoses to the fuel tank and the intake manifold. Very important that the hoses are not kinked, leaking etc. There is usually also a control valve associated with the canister to purge the vapors when the engine is running.
  21. I had a charcoal canister on a dodge that had a bad air line going into it. It was clogged with debris. It is possible that it could be something that simple. The canisters as I remember, you could take out and blow thru a hose and it should exit the other outlet, if not it is clogged. think of it as a filter system.
  22. Well finished my brake job. Installed the two front rotors (Brembo) and Alkebano ciramics. Went very smooth. Finally received the rears (ceramics) but noted that the anti squeel pads had notch tabs in the wrong place. I know the adheasive is supposed to locate the pads, but I trust the tabs over the edge of the ceramic brakes more so I filed a slot on the edge of the pad to match the squeel plates. Now I feel better about movement of the anti squeel plates. After that the brake jobs was easy. Lubed the pads as indicated, and also took the locating pins and lubed them with moly grease. Movement of the caliper was very free then. My 99RX must have a earlier version of caliper as I had no deficulty in pushing the piston back with a c clamp. The car definetly brakes nice now. Will see after the pads break in. Total cost for parts $250 with shipping from the Tirerack.com. Not bad for two rotors and two sets of pads.
  23. Just wanted to update on the filter installation. So far everything is going well, the transmission is shifting as normal and their are no leaks. I bought some more Type IV and will change the fluid in the future.
  24. Hey is westfield the old westover air force base my dad was stationed at when b52"s were there?
  25. The filter I installed is quite different from SK's thread, it is just basically a large filter similer to an oil filter, hopefully to eliminate any small debris and metal from staying in suspension in the tranny fluid. I believe SK's was some sort of Magnetic in line filter which probably is great also. My wife commutes a very heavy back street in sometimes 102 degrees and up in the summer. The fluid in the RX300 AWD seems to turn very black and burnt smelling. I am going to add an aux cooling fan to the aux cooler infront of the right wheel well. Probably going to make it a manual switch for summer time use and try to keep the tranny fluid as cool as possible. The cold morning shifts are indeed normal, since the day I bought the vehicle in November of 98. The filter I added is quite large and will actually add fluid capacity. It is the size of a PH8 Ford filter... doing anything I can to enhance my third transmission. I will also continue to change fluid every 15k miles. My original concerns were brought on by two transmission failures and burnt fluid/very black everytime I had changed it (every 30k until the first failure). Note that the burn't and black indications are evident with everybody that has had the fluid changed. For those that the dealership did this you would not know because the mechanics probably don't tell you.
